I was looking for an entry level guitar that has a floating tremolo that I could learn to play and whammy without fear of de-tuning the strings. My current guitar is an Ibanez GRX and it has a fixed bridge so I was limited in what rock styles I could practice.I noticed that most Floyd Rose tremolo guitars were expensive and my skill level doesn't justify that yet so I decided to check out the Peavey Predator. I have the topez blue and it is sweet; the red is cool as well. This guitar is way beyond my Ibanez. The pickups are much stronger and play distortion clearer on the Predator. I don't want to change to aftermarket pickups in this guitar. I may have to do that for the Ibanez so it will sound more like the Peavey. The neck is silky smooth and the volume/tone knobs are solid. The locking nuts and tuning keys are a little flimsey but since this is a Floyd, then you won't be turning them very much. Also, this is only an inexpensive guitar so some corners were certainly cut. The Floyd tremelo does take some getting use to when you initially tune it. The fine tuning adjusters on the bridge are invaluable. Since I dialed in a proper standard tuning, Ive bent the strings like crazy and the tuning has stayed the same. The stock strings are a bit rough though. I have Earnie Ball Slinky's on my Ibanez that are just butter, so the stock strings here were a harsh awakining for my fingers. I would definately recommend this guitar to anyone learning how to play. I can't give a professional player's opinion because I'm certainly not one. But as a fellow student of the guitar, this is a good stepping stone on the way to better playing and enjoyment.

Comments about Peavey Predator Plus EXP Guitar:
This guitar is decent and ive own alot of guitars that were more expensive. i purchased the gloss black stop tail at a local store, i needed one right away and didnt want to wait a few days for shipment as i couldnt afford the floyed rose version,,thats ok, less maintenence anywayze-it was kept near a humidifier on the low shelf and im wondering if thats why it has fret buzzes above the 15th fret, even after truss rod adjustment and everything. i appreciate this axe

This isn't one of those guitars you need to set around thinking about whether or not to buy. Just pull the trigger and buy it, and you won't be disappointed if you get get the action setup right by a guitar tech, put some 9's on it if you're a beginner, and get the tech to do a thorough setup on the floyd, and you're read to rock.
For this price with a floyd rose, this is a perfect entry level guitar to wreak metal havoc. Put some 9's on it and get a guitar tech to do a good setup on it, and you're good to go! Add a Line 6 amp and that's all a beginner needs to get started. Initially I was comparing this to the Kramer's that cost about more and I'm extremely happy I went with the Peavey. It has a true floating floyd so that you can pull-up and push-down on the tremolo bar, and not just a one direction floyd like the entry level Kramer. Surprisingly, the floyd stays in tune! Like I said, have a good guitar tech do the right setup on it and you will be very happy with your purchase! I've played guitar for over 30 yrs, I've owned Charvel's, Jackson's, ESP's, Fenders, and you don't have to pay a ton to have a fun guitar that can keep pace with the heavy metal sounds you're looking to create.
Comments about Peavey Predator Plus EXP Guitar:
i loved the guitar as it played but the cheap ass metal and threading will make it a parts guitar after about 1 year, but a really good custom start
Comments about Peavey Predator Plus EXP Guitar:
This guitar is amazing!! I went to my local music store and I saw it and decided that it looks nice and I asked the clerk to let me play it and he actually did! (This music store is kinda greedy)and well this guitar is amazing! I've been playing for four years and its possibly the best guitar I've played yet!! I've heard of Peavy being a crappy guitar making company but then I played this guitar and now I think otherwise! I'm selling a few things and saving my money to get this guitar! Hopefully by summer I'll have it! I loved playing it and it had amazing sound and the neck felt great. Not as fast as my Ibanez's neck but it was still great!
Comments about Peavey Predator Plus EXP Guitar:
to get the best sound just raise the pick-ups as much as you can tilted a little with the adjustments on the side of the pic-up
Comments about Peavey Predator Plus EXP Guitar:
the body has a good weight, the action is the best i played in 25 years, the only problem i have is the strings came rusted, but a warning this guitar with this trem isn't a starter guitar by any means
Comments about Peavey Predator Plus EXP Guitar:
So this is my 3rd guitar, my second Peavey, I loved my first one so I though I would get another. Right out of the box I had to replace the tone pot becuase the guitar cut out, and Now after 3 months the volume pot is sticky and sometimes cuts out. However This is probably the easiest guitar that I have ever played. The neck is sculpted perfect for my hands, its nice and smooth, the deep cut aways allow easy access to even the highest(24th) fret. The tone for this price range is unmatchable compared to schechters and deans and other guitars in this price range its built alot sturdier...I have dropped and scratched it and scraped it and the finish is still perfect. The coil Tap is real close..I think its the closest tap to a strat sound that I have heard..although I wish there was seperates taps for each pickup so I could use a H - S set up.But For anyone looking for someting better than a budget begginer guitar, that doesnt have alot of money I would suggest this over the Omen and the Vendetta, just play it for awhile first and make sure the pots are good.
Comments about Peavey Predator Plus EXP Guitar:
I've been playing for quite a while and I read the reviews and convinced myself to buy this guitar for my son. I was very impressed with the action and some of the features. Granted the pickups aren't the best but it DIGS just fine for the style of music he and I play. As long as you take care of this guitar I am sure it would last a very long time.. GREAT BUY especially if your on a budget!!
Comments about Peavey Predator Plus EXP Guitar:
I don't have a ton of experience with guitars, but I haven't really found anything to complain about. The pickups aren't anything to write home about, but that's pretty standard for this price point. It seems like a pretty good value if you are willing/want to deal with floyd rose. That was one of the reasons why I bought it. The black has a white binding around the body that looks pretty sharp, but is hard to notice in the stock pictures.
Comments about Peavey Predator Plus EXP Guitar:
I've had mine about 6 months without any problems. I was replacing a Ibanez RG350DX which the bridge in that broke within a week. After that expirience I was larry on getting a guitar with a floating trem but they're just too much fun. This guitar has made a perfect backup guitar, and is just so much fun. The pickups aren't the best but other then that it's a steel.
