Comments about Peavey Vypyr Electric Guitar Stage Pack:
I give this an overall 8 because for the money you can't beat this setup. The amp is very good, the guitar is decent once you "fix" it and very playable. 24 frets, tons of effects built in and a rig you can play with and create a variety of sounds and tones.
Let me start this by saying this is not really a stage pack. This is a good beginner guitar though with caviats. First and formost was Musicians Friend's shipping. I ordered this to use because I work in Afghanastan and will not have my good gear shipped out here. I have 2 acoustics here and need an electric to play some of the things i like that just can't be done on an acoustic. The kit came well packed with no damage to any of the equipment. MF notified me that the guitar was backordered and an approxamate shipping time. The guitar came in a timely manner and the packing was excellent. These guys are truely a "Musicians Friend". The guitar is basic and the amp is packed with features you won't find in any other practice amp i've looked at.
The guitar is what you would expect from an inexpensive guitar. The neck on the one i recieved was not adjusted properly and had fret buzz and the action was terible. For someone new to guitars you need to have it adjusted. If you don't know how, take it to your local music store and have them adjust it. As with all individual adjustable bridge guitars, after you get the neck and action correct you will have to adjust the intonation. Once this was accomplished the guitar plays well and sounds good through the amp. I spent about 2 hours adjusting the neck initally and then did some fine adjustments after the initial setup. The tools (less a philips head screw driver) were included in the kit. The tremolo bridge holds the tune well and I haven't had any problems so far. The strings that are shipped with this gutar are crap! When you order, include some good strings as well. It ships with 9s but the quality is horrible and that was the first thing i replaced. The tuners are on the bottom of the head also and are rather close togather which makes tuning a pain but not impossible. I will update this review on the sound of the guitar once i get a chance to play it through a real (tube, stage quality) amp. The only problem I have with the actual quality of the guitar itself is the cord jack. It is extremely loose and causes the cord to not sit correctly so it will get feedback from the plug until you play with it for a while. I will adjust this internally and replace it eventually when i get back to the states. The guitar itself is solid and well built. The fret board is good although some of the frets will need to be sanded as the are a litte sharp on some edges. I tightened all the screws where they count as well (neck, bridge..) so as not to cause problems in the future.
The included cord is not the best quality but it will work for a while. The earbuds are also low quality and the cord is short on them so i don't use them, i have my own headset i use.
The amp is where this package shines! I have owned peavy's in the past and this amp for practice does not dissapoint! I will take some tweaking and playing with the knobs but this thing has a range of sounds which you won't find in other practice amps. I prefer tubes but this is a good all around practice amp. The manual is lacking for a beginner and you will have to "figure out" how to get a clean sound on some of the settings but it can be done. Where I'm at, I didn't want to have to order and ship extra stomp boxes to get the effects i wanted and this this amp delivers and then some. Be aware though, unless you sit in front of the amp, what you set is what you get, there is no pedal to turn off the effects or change them on the fly unless you turn or press the knobs (hence, not a stage amp). Same goes for the clean/overdirven channel.
This is a good value for someone who either is starting out with the guitar or doesn't have the cash for a good rig. The guitar plays well once adjusted and the amp is the perfect biginner practice amp. MFs shipping in first rate and their customer service is excellent. There is better equipment out there but if you are looking here, this is either a starter kit or a beat around rig and this is well worth the money.

I bought one last year and i had no experience with guitars playing or buying but i figured it wasnt a bad deal well first off let me say the amp alone is well worth it all the effects are awesome and the guitar has a lil fret buzz but i learned how to play with it and i still play it very solid guitar i have dropped it scratched and it still looks new great deal especially for a beginner if u want a guitar u can jus mess with and an awesome amp this is also a good for a long time player but the guitar like i said is a learner but good quality if u want a better sound i would recomend getting some better strings but i think it is a great deal
