    The Custom 24 is the original PRS…the guitar Paul Reed Smith took to his first tradeshow in 1985. A perennial favorite with musicians, this model has been updated for 2011 with V12 finish, a Pattern Regular mahogany neck, and uncovered 59/09 pickups wired for the redesigned 5-way blade switch, which offers a dual humbucker option for the first time.

    V12 Finish
    Finish should enhance the look, sound, and feel of a guitar by accentuating the wood's inherent beauty and feel without hindering its natural resonance. And PRS Guitars' new "V12" finish does just that. Introduced at Experience PRS 2010, "V12" is a very thin, hard, and clear finish that will not crack or react with thinners. After roughly 12 years in development, it is halfway between acrylic and nitro but with a classic feel all its own. "PRS models with this new finish feel like old instruments," said Paul Reed Smith.

    Pattern Regular Shape
    Neck shapes have always been a high priority for PRS and a hallmark of PRS quality. A guitar should feel comfortable, like "home," as soon as you pick it up, and the neck is paramount to that connection. The new "Pattern Regular" neck shape is similar to the traditional PRS regular neck found on guitars made in the late 80's at PRS's former Virginia Avenue location.

    This new neck shape reflects modern tooling and programming that allows PRS to even more preciously shape and consistently reproduce their necks.

        This is my replacement for my '80 Les paul deluxe lost from hurricane Sandy :( once i played it, i felt happier since les paul. really awesome feel in the neck and not too heavy plus a very versitile guitar from blues to metal.

        Thanks to Chris Swope for private reserve i really wanted the fire red burst but dont have it in stock but he send me pictures of other red colors and they really checked for minor flaws before sending so there will be no suprises!!!

        so call Chris and get this guitar if you can!!!

          I have a 2002 10 top custom 24 transparent green. I have played the wood right off this thing. I get so many comments when I bring this out. I have a. Gibson chad kroeger blackwater, a fender road worn 50s tele and a road worn player strat. All I need now is a gretsch hollow to fill my tonal desires. The prs is a pleasure and despite the wear and tear on this guitar it is my baby. I had a 2000 prs single cut and I never really got used to it maybe was the 22 frets or its extra weight on my shoulder the prs custom is the prs to have if you can get one. After thousands of hours of play literally four hours a week x many years it is still my go to girl and has never broken a string playing out I string with elixir coated ten gauges and trust it with Raritan abay guitar repair for all set ups string changes, etc.

          Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

          I go way back... started playing out in 1965. I have ALL the "classics." Not enough space here to mention them all.
          I researched this model. I called Musicians Friend, I called PRS. I talked to techs. I called other experts...

          BUY THIS GUITAR FROM MUSICIAN'S FRIEND. I did. You should too! That's as straight as I can give it to you.

            After playing Fender Strats for nearly 20 years, I felt an "upgrade" was warranted. The PRS is hands down the nicest, smoothest, most perfect guitar (for me) that I have ever played. The scale and weight fits me perfectly (5'7", 150lbs). It seems to be just a touch lighter in weight than Strats.
            I played one at the local "Guitar" place, and immediately ordered mine online. If you have the cash, you really cannot go wrong with this guitar. It's absolutely beautiful.

            Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

              I bought this guitar slighly over a year ago and it still plays the same as the day i got it. It may be a bit on the pricey side but i assure you, it is worth every penny. The clean tone on the guitar is unparalleled and the dirty tone will leave you in awe. If you are looking for the perfect guitar, this is it. I was blown away from the second i opened the case because this guitar is just breathtaking(Includes a case). If you have the extra cash to spend, this is the guitar to get!

                      I,m a little upset, upset that while playing this thing and looking at my les paul limited addition loaded with emgs and my american deluxe strat and not picking them up because I can,t put this prs down I can feel every note through the body and neck and rediscovering techniques and harmonics that I,d nearly forgot existed its lighter than the others and fits comfortably in any playing position I,m 52 and my body is feeling the years of hard work and play and fatigue of wearing a heavy guitar is significantly relieved here spend an hour or two with this guitar and you,ll never forget it
