Updated with new neck, new finish, and improved electronics.
The Custom 24 is the original PRS—the guitar Paul Reed Smith took to his first tradeshow in 1985. A perennial favorite with musicians, this model has been updated for 2011 with V12 finish, a Pattern Regular mahogany neck with an East Indian rosewood fretboard, and uncovered 59/09 pickups wired for the redesigned PRS 5-way blade switch, which offers a dual humbucker option for the first time
Other features include mahogany neck, V12 finish, rosewood fretboard, "pattern regular neck", 2011 birds, PRS tremolo bridge, and PRS low-mass locking tuners.
Finish should enhance the look, sound, and feel of a guitar by accentuating the wood's inherent beauty and feel without hindering its natural resonance. And PRS Guitars' new "V12" finish does just that. Introduced at Experience PRS 2010, "V12" is a very thin, hard, and clear finish that will not crack or react with thinners. After roughly 12 years in development, it is halfway between acrylic and nitro but with a classic feel all its own. "PRS models with this new finish feel like old instruments," said Paul Reed Smith.
Pattern Regular Shape
Neck shapes have always been a high priority for PRS and a hallmark of PRS quality. A guitar should feel comfortable, like "home," as soon as you pick it up, and the neck is paramount to that connection. The new "Pattern Regular" neck shape is similar to the traditional PRS regular neck found on guitars made in the late 80's at PRS's former Virginia Avenue location.
This new neck shape reflects modern tooling and programming that allows PRS to even more preciously shape and consistently reproduce their necks. Includes case.

Comments about PRS Custom 24 Quilted 10-Top Electric Guitar:
I've owned, bought, sold and traded tons of guitars in my years as a guitarist. From beaters to some extremely fine machines and this Custom 24 ranks among the top. It's quilt maple top is so busy and intricate that it looks less like a 10-top and more like an artist grade or above, I'd go as far as calling it 4A. The V12 feels like nitro at first touch and satisfies my desire for the feeling and sound of nitrocellulose. Blue is my favorite color and the blue crab blue is so pretty! The extended bobbins are great looking! They finally look like they were meant to be exposed. Tone is solid, and finally having the option to select the neck and bridge humbuckers together for the first time on a PRS is great. Having said that, in my opinion, the blade switch ruins the beauty of the slope of the 3 knobs of earlier models. A 5 or 6 way rotary would have made this a perfect 10, it isn't so I didn't. But man oh man, this is SUCH a beauty! The craftsmanship is consistent with PRS quality. I can't find a bone to pick with the build quality. She's weighty but not a shoulder breaker. The neck is great, super fast, super playable and instantly familiar. I'm going to keep this one for a while... a long while.
