    Redesigned piezo circuitry lets this splendid solidbody electric deliver full acoustic sounding tones.

    The PRS P22 Pattern Regular Neck Quilt 10-Top Electric Guitar is the company's first piezo-equipped solidbody guitar. The P22 comes standard with a figured maple top, mahogany back, mahogany neck with a 22 fret rosewood fingerboard, and a redesigned PRS/LR Baggs piezo system. PRS and LR Baggs partnered more than a decade ago to design the piezo system found in PRSs popular hollowbody models.

    This new system retains the same circuit design as the existing system, giving the P22 the same tonal authenticity and real world practicality as PRS hollowbody guitars. The redesign of the board itself yielded a version that is more than 60% smaller than the original PRS/LR Baggs system, allowing it to comfortably inhabit a solidbody guitar. Uncovered 53/10 pickups round out this guitars specifications and help define the P22s voice. Seperate acoustic and electric outputs are available with the option to combine both pickup systems through a single output using use onboard controls to adjust the balance.

    Piezo systems have long allowed guitarists the versatility of wielding both acoustic and electric guitar tones in one instrument. The PRS Hollowbody II and Singlecut Hollowbody II both come standard with the original PRS/LR Baggs piezo and have achieved a great level of popularity in PRS Guitars product line. The addition of a solidbody model will give musicians a new and unique tool to add to their own lineup.

    Comments about PRS P22 Pattern Regular Neck Quilt 10-Top Electric Guitar:

    All the quality you expect from PRS with a new twist and new tones. It takes a bit of experimentation to get the feel of mixing the piezo and 53/10 pickups, but it's worth the effort. The two output jacks---one for piezo alone and the other for the piezo/53-10's mix or just 53/10's alone is also a bit different.

    An acoustic amp brings out the best tones from the piezo side, but mixing the two through a standard amp provides unique sounds on it's own. If using an acoustic amp for the piezo side you may want to consider using a preamp/equalizer--or an amp with a built-in preamp like a Trace Elliot. Even more fun and unique sound is at your finger tips by using two amps----piezo and standard at the same time. Careful with the amp gain controls on the piezo---it'll clip out on some acoustic amps and sound a bit clanging. This is easily managed with gain control and a little preamp control.

    The guitar uses a 9-volt battery to power the piezo. Anytime that a cable is plugged into the jack it's on and your using battery. While the batteries will last a long while, remember to carry a few extra 9 volt batteries and don't leave the plug in when not playing. Be careful when changing the battery as the wires look like they will not hold up to rough handling.
