OVERVIEW

Balanced punch and sustain with a single-cutaway and bebeled body design for easier performances.

The S2 Singlecut Semi-Hollow boasts a classic body shape and the tried-and-true combination of mahogany, maple, and rosewood. The addition of a chambered body and f-hole gives this vintage-style guitar lush harmonic richness. The S2 Singlecut Semi-Hollow balances response and sustain with clarity and precision, making this guitar a perfect option for both lead and rhythm work thanks to the perfectly placed and crafted PRS S2 #7 Treble and S2 #7 Bass pickups. The classic control layout (with volume and tone for each pickup) and added versatility of a push/pull coil tap on the tone controls give players plenty of options to dial in flawless tone.

Comments about PRS S2 Singlecut Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

I have been an ardent Les Paul guy for many years. But the older I get, mid 40's now , the less i appreciate the weight and thick neck. I'd been looking for a backup / replacement guitar for a few years, but if i was replacing a Gibson- I didn't want to downgrade & go slumming with just any old guitar.

I'd tried PRS a few times before and was never that impressed, good quality- just not my style.
I had been thinking about getting a semi hollow body but wasn't sure which one. I saw PRS had come out with a new line and was curious...
At a visit to a local music store the owner suggested i tried the S2 hollow body, along with a few others.
I kept coming back to the PRS... the feel and tone was just amazing! Also, it comes loaded with push / pull coil splits... which I love.
Versatility is a big component of my playing, which often has to cover very clean sounds into light to heavy overdrive and this guitar covers all the bases with ease.
I've had mine for about 3 months and it has quickly become my main guitar... to the point that my Les Paul and Strat just feel off..
I did end up replacing the neck pickup with a Seymour Duncan Jazz, because the PRS sounded OK when used with the Bridge P/U but was way too muddy on its own.

Over all, super fun guitar to play. great feel & tone with this one... check one out today !

Comments about PRS S2 Singlecut Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

One thing I forgot to mention about my review - Musician's Friend people were great on the phone and on the delivery - the whole team hit it out of the park for me. I wanted a 2106 model with the adjustable saddles, and a light (weight) guitar with a lighter (finish) sunburst and a great match on the flame maple top. I know that all sounds like a pain in the neck, but rather than pulling a box off the shelf and shipping it out, MF guys (and gals) put aside my order for special processing and although it took a little longer (1 day) I got the exact guitar I was looking for - around 7 pounds, nice light color and perfect flame match.

Great job!

Comments about PRS S2 Singlecut Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

This is an awesome guitar. I play/collect (okay, GAS) - I've got 30-something guitars, mostly nice ones, counting a Custom 24 10-top and a P22 Goldtop. And 13 Strats, because every once in a while I start to think that I would sound better if I had a red one (or different pickups, or a maple fretboard or...).

I was looking for a Les Paul-style guitar in the $1500 range (even a Gibson!), but didn't want the boat anchor hanging off my neck. This Semi Hollow S2 Singlecut is perfect as the ES Les Paul is double the price.

I have a Gibson 2012 Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop (the mini-hums) and for some reason, it feels just too small, like a toy. The 25" scale length on this guitar is just "more open" enough so I don't feel cramped up on the fretboard.

One of the things that's a little different with this guitar is the PRS control layout, which now makes so much more sense than the Gibson 4-knob arrangement - looking down from your head past the strings, the first knob toward the neck is the neck volume (just like Gibson) but the knob below that (and still closer to the neck) is the NECK TONE instead of the bridge volume. I don't know why Gibson does it the way they do it now - so much easier/more intuitive this way!

Speaking of controls - every guitar that doesn't have a treble bleed circuit (like this one) gets muffled the instant you roll the volume off 10. SO, everyone just cranks all the knobs to 10 and that's where they stay. So your amp is getting force-fed the full volume of the pickup and it's distorting too early and you can't get headroom out of it. Big discovery: If you set your amp up with gain/master volume so that it's just a little quieter than you want anyway but with the guitar volume on 5 or 6, there's a lot more music in there - and this guitar is great for that. There's so much tonal control and it's amazing how much more range is in these pickups when they're played that way. And by the way, need more oomph? - crank up the volume to...8!

Comments about PRS S2 Singlecut Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

As each day passes I begin to love this guitar more and more...now, I can't set it down! The Tone thru the Tone King "Sky King" is fantabulous! I just wish I hadn't spent $6000 on a Collings SoCo Deluxe when this PRS sounds, looks, and feels, just as good if not superior to the Collings!
I'm gearing up to buy another PRS S2 in a Solid Body next...Another fine attribute is the 25 in. scale length as part of the Beefy, yet comfortable Neck...this really helps with Chords and those far reaching notes on the fretboard.
I'm rediculously pleased...Thankyou Paul Reed Smith! Doc

One thing I can say about Paul Reed Smith is the attention to detail and workmanship is immediately noticed when the instrument is placed in your hands. The Set-Up is spot on. The Tonal Range is very useful. Nothing needed to "Color the Tone" with this guitar. Get a Good Guitar Cord, and Good Tube Amplifier, plug in and enjoy some fabulous Tone. The Coil Splitting is a real Plus+ The overall "feel" of this instrument is such that it was taylored for your needs! Thanks Paul reed Smith! (I will need to buy a Nice Hard Shell Case)
The Guitar is worth it! What a Looker too! I'm glad I went to the local Music Store to try out the PRS Single Cut Hollow Body Guiatr. Doc
