Versatility, functionality and PRS panache.

The PRS SE Custom 22 Semi-Hollow Electric is a versatile guitar for those who desire the sustain and vibe of a chambered body. It features a carved top with a quilted maple veneer over mahogany back and sides. A single f-hole adds style and some acoustic resonance when playing unplugged. The mahogany neck sports PRS' popular wide fat neck profile and 22 frets medium jumbo. Original SE treble and bass pickups offer no-nonsense performance, wired to a 3-way switch and a single set of volume and tone controls. The PRS stoptail bridge is perfectly intonated and makes adjusting your action a breeze. Gig bag included.

The Wide Fat neck has the same nut width as the Wide Thin neck, but it has a deeper profile. Because of its strength and longer "heel", the Wide Fat neck produces warm tones with lots of sustain.

A five-star instrument after a setup and subjective upgrades

About Me Experienced

Comments about PRS SE Custom 22 Semi- Hollow Electric Guitar:

I ordered the Quilted Tobacco Burst model which was a surprise, seeing as how the PRS site has no indication of releasing a special run finish. Either way, this was much more appealing to me than the Orange or Black/Grey finished models. Good start! This is essentially the SE Semi Hollow of previous years with the following changes: Beveled top, no pick guard, and an "f" hole instead of the "claw" cutout. Same woods, neck profile, pickups, electronics/layout. I've been waiting for these changes to happen! Had to get one! Got one!

These come from the factory with 09 gauge strings which had to go. I opted to replace them with 10's which required me to file away the low E string and A string slots to ensure proper seating without binding. It required no additional setup and was ready to go right out of the box which you just gotta love. In this day and age a perfect setup out of the box almost makes you think it's too good to be true. I digress.

Fit and finish were what I'd expect from an instrument with PRS stamped on it. Excellent. The quilted maple cap is matched well, finished very well, and is a lot of fun to look at. All hardware was solid on the instrument, solder joints looked joined properly, and the wires were tidy. Tuners are smooth as any I've ever used and hold tune without flaw. No complaints there.

I'm typically a single coil player but know the properties of a humbucker and the guitar that you'd typically find them in. I didn't know quite what to expect from this combination but I plugged it in with an open mind and can make the following comments with confidence: They're alright. They operate like they should in that you play with your volume wide open they sound louder, but not articulate. Roll the volume down, you gain articulation but loose some of that dimensional character that makes a good humbucker good. Not inspiring. I'll be changing the electronics and pickups.

An excellent guitar with fixable weak points.

Comments about PRS SE Custom 22 Semi- Hollow Electric Guitar:

I've been playing guitar since I was in middle school. Went through my highschool metal band times and furthered my music education through to college studying jazz guitar. I've had plenty of jazz "boxes" and even own a musicman made in USA Sillohuette and let me tell you the tone/and feel had never been so naturally easy to achieve than with this guitar. My boxes had a huge feedback problem, limiting my overall volume at certain venues. My musicman, though perfect for fusion/rock could never truly emulate that wooden, and rounded natural jazz tone. This PRS has blended the perfect worlds together of straight up jazz and the ability to turn full funk with the flick of a tone knob. I managed to get an amazing deal and I absolutely recommend anyone who actively plays te genres of funk/fusion/jazz and maybe even country. I bought this guitar to begin my first tour and I believe it will be a staple instrument for the rest of my career! Though many many pros, the 1 con I can think of would be the toggle switch. I'm used to a 5 way switch blade, so perhaps I take my Liberty with the amount of force I use to switch between pickups, but I can't help feel that this switch is a little shoddy. A cheap fix will put a quality knob in. Pickups are clear and cut through, while the natural mids resonate perfectly. I've never had so much full body sustain before in a guitar. And FINALLY. The weight is absolutely cornering the market. This thing is so light that it's scary it can produce as much tone as it does. I can play for hours without feelin the fatigue. Overall amazing guitar and well worth your purchase

Comments about PRS SE Custom 22 Semi- Hollow Electric Guitar:

Another really great value from PRS's SE line. Very well made, beautiful aesthetics, excellent materials, craftsmanship throughout, precise electrical solder work; a high quality musical instrument.

This is my 5th different model of SE. Tone is noticeably more sonorous then my solid bodied models. Articulation from the pickups is excellent, I find. Tone and volume roll off and on nicely, predictably, and very usably from the Alpha 500k pots. You can feel the sustain vibrate through the guitar everywhere it contacts your body; fingertips to torso ... a magical feeling. It plays smooth and solid yet it is physically light. And, the neck is just a perfect carve. LOVE IT. Best yet.

About me: Non professional, 41 years playing guitar. Other guitars: An American made Strat, Gibson Les Paul Custom, 6 SE's (two of the same model) and a Chapman tele. Technically self sufficient. Most recently put a set of Seymour Duncan's passive pickup into one of my PRS SE Toreros (the TB-4 and the SH-2n) replacing the EMGs. Body drilling for pots and grounding, electronics and wiring replacement work, setting up the instrument afterwards. Consider myself a fairly good judge of a guitar's quality, tone, and versatility ... and this PRS SE Custom 22 Semi hollow is an excellent guitar.

    Great deal. Great value.
