Flawless Craftsmanship and Hardwares

By Binesh Maharjan

from Washington, DC

Comments about PRS SE Custom Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

Throughout my guitar playing years, I have played lot of guitars and owned bunch (some high ends). I have never had any guitars that I liked instantly. I always needed some time to find my tone and get used to it. This my friends is the 1st of a kind that I loved as soon as I opened the box and played it. It didn't even need to tune out of the box. Flawless craftsmanship and top notch hardware. Very versatile and incredible sound. You can play this guitar in any genre of music from jazz to rock. I have never played a guitar with humbuckers that has such a bite to it. Pickups are crazy good. When you lower the volume little, clean sound becomes accoustic guitar sound. I highly recommend this guitar to all.
Fantastic! Pickups in this guitar are so verstile. Those humbuckers have great bite and resonate with superb clarity.
Flawless wood work. I was little bit worried when I read some reviews saying that it had big fat neck as I haven't played that many fat neck guitars. Much to my surprise, the fat neck is actually amazingly comfortable. Trust me on this. This is coming from a guy who play mostly in Ibanez Prestige neck.
I have owned and played some high-ends Gibson and Fender. For the price, this guitar put most of them in dust.

Comments about PRS SE Custom Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

You are not going to find a better guitar for the money...period! Everything is perfect on this guitar, from the attention to detail on every little part, to the hardware, its way better than what I was expecting. If I had to be extremely nit picky, I would say that the heel pocket could be a little better so you can get up to the 22nd fret a little easier, but it is still very easy to get there, and myself coming off of a Les Paul to this, it is a HUGE improvement! I would recommend anyone looking for an extremely good and very versitile guitar in this price range, BUY THIS!
Well, this guitar is very simple, which for me is the way that I like it, but the pickups are really good. And the stock tuners are really good as well, and the bridge design is amazing, its very comfortable, and the string does not move. Plus if you use both pickups and bring the volume down to around 4 or so on the guitar, it gives it almost a piezo quality.
The craftsman ship on this guitar or at least the one I got, is out of this world. It completely blew me away the second that I started playing it. Oh and let me say that the pictures of this guitar really don't do it justice if you haven't seen it in real life, it is beautiful!
If I hadn't looked at the price tag on this guitar before I started playing it, I easily would have though this guitar to be around the 1,500 - 2,000 range. It is really just stunning. PRS really went over the top with this guitar. But I have never played one of the really expensive PRS's so it just makes me wonder, if this one is this good, how good are they?!

Good basic workhorse!

Comments about PRS SE Custom Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

Under the features-rating, i only give 4 points, but that's just because it doesn't have a bunch of unnecessary stuff. I must say that the lack of extraneous features is one of the things I like about this model. Most times we don't want (or need) whammy-bars, extra tone knobs, exotic woods or super sleek styling. This guitar has good pickups that cover a broad spectrum of tones, will drive the front end of a tube amp adequately and it's easy to operate. The tailpiece / bridge intonates fairly well. It makes string-changing easy, fast, & hassle-free. The tuning machines are pretty smooth and stay put nicely. I like the wide fat neck, but that's a personal thing. You might have different preferences depending on your style, hands and experience. The guitar is not too heavy, which I really like, since that makes a long gig easier on my shoulders and back. (did that give away my age?) It stays in tune, plays easily and sounds good. Nowadays, I figure 7 bills for such a thing is a fair price. If you want a lightweight no-frills workhorse for playing several styles of music, this is a good one to check out. If you want gizmos & gadgets, endless complex subtle tone variations, brutal output for ridiculous distortion of metal mayhem, you probably want some other model. I think this is a well-built, versatile yet simple guitar. The few minor things I might ask to change wouldn't improve it much, and they are mostly subjective personal things anyway. Overall, a good honest guitar at a fair price.

PRS SE Custom S-H guitar review

Comments about PRS SE Custom Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

Love it! Very playable, and versatile. Initially I just plugged the PRS straight into a Fender Champ, just to see what it can do without any effects. Fantastic! Nice range of tones. Then I started adding a few stompboxes to see how it would perform - again Fantastic! It's a great guitar. You can cover many styles with this axe.
The beauty is in the simplicity! 3-way toggle switch, volume and tone controls, 2 pickups. That's it, and they work well together. Out of the box - stays in tune even with the factory strings. "Broke in" very quickly.
For the money, this a great quality instrument. I have other guitars (from Gibson, Fender, Ibanez) that were 2x or 3x the price of this PRS, and I would say the quality of workmanship and components is equal to, if not better, than the more expensive guitars.
Again - for the money, you can't touch this PRS when comparing the value-for-price-paid with other vendors (although I would put Ibanez as a close 2nd place).

Comments about PRS SE Custom Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

I owned a 1968 Gibson ES335 for about 20 years. Dearly loved the thing and she stayed with me longer than any woman, dog or car. When times got really tough I had to let it go, but ever since then I was looking for something to take its place.Since I couldn't justify owning another one, I tried the PRS Semi Hollow SE. Having owned a Tremonti SE I was familiar with, and impressed by, the quality built into PRS Korean models. This guitar is no exception. The wide neck feels fairly true to the Gibsons I've owned (4 Les Pauls) and the guitar is actually easier to play well than most of those. Fit and finish is very good, although not quite excellent, and the hardware package is somewhat better than adequate. The only weak spot is the pickups, which seem a bit airy for my taste- nowhere near the ballsy tone of the LPs, or the clarity of the '57s on the 335.All in all though, a fine low-mid level guitar, and well worht the price.

Beyond Expectations

By Norman Granville

from Lockport NY

Comments about PRS SE Custom Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

The moment i took the SE Custom out of the box and held it in my hand it just felt right. I have never held a guitar that was so well balanced and add to that the neck feels so natural in your hands like it was costom made. This is now my 5th guitar and i wont go down the road of tearing the other ones down...but i will tell you the SE Custom is now my go to guitar.
Looking at the SE Custom you dont see a lot of bells and whistles...knobs or switches. That is the beauty of the SE...I truly did not expect the range in tones and sounds from the SE. You have the ability to go from a deep heavy growl to a soft sultry jazz tone on the fly.
When you are buying on a small budget there is always the feeling you will be sacrificing quality. NOT true with the SE Custom...i have a good friend of mine who plays in 2 working local bands at the moment that has asked me if he can use the SE at his next gig.
Anytime you hear somebody talk about PRS Guitars the conversation always includes quality. When you can buy a PRS Guitar in this price range you can count on getting good value for your hard earned money.

Comments about PRS SE Custom Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

I have and have had nice Gibsons and Fender products. They are all great guitars but can put you in the poor house if your not careful. The craftmanship and playability on this PRS is second to none. The first time I played it was through a Fender Deville 4x10 and it almost brought tears to my eyes. I couldn't put it down but the sales guy was very patient. All in all, if you are just starting or are a seasoned player, this guitar will not dissapoint.
Light weight, Easy fret access, well balanced.
Very well done for an import, didn't find any flaws in the finish at all. The PUPs are plenty powerful and smooth out real nice when rolled back. My only complaint is that the pots are a bit noisey during adjustment.
Awesome value!!! Keeps up with guitars 3 and 4 times the cost.

Comments about PRS SE Custom Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

I've been playing guitar since I taught myself 50 years ago. This guitar plays like a much more expensive instrument. Coupled with my Fender Tube DeVille amp, it'll play any style I want. I play blues, funk, rock and reggae, and this works for everything. I was surprised by the speedy action and great feel of the neck and fretboard. I have a variety of other guitars and the only one I like as much as this is my old Gibson. Because this one is light and easy to play, it's my new go-to guitar.

Comments about PRS SE Custom Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

This guitar is feather light (a nice contrast to my Les Pauls.) The pickups are hot and very clean. It has the bite that you need sometimes, and the clean smooth sound that you need as well. PLayed great out of the box, even with stock strings and setup, felt smooth as silk. I wouldn't say it's a looker, necessarily, but if it's sound you are after, you can't go wrong. I like this better than any of my Les Pauls.
