Supreme resonance from a streamlined tonal monster.

The PRS SE Singlecut Electric Guitar features a gorgeous bookmatched, heavily flamed maple veneer (on transparent-finish models) above a maple top and a mahogany back. This tried-and-true wood combination produces great resonance with bold bottom end. The PRS SE Singlecut guitar is enhanced by a PRS-designed tremolo for direct transfer of string vibration. PRS-designed humbucker pickups turn all that resonance into nearly endless sustain. Bird fretboard inlays and natural maple top binding add a little Paul Reed Smith flair to the SE Singlecut. Case sold separately.

Comments about PRS SE Singlecut Electric Guitar:

This Singlecut is the third in the PRS SE line I now own. All bought used for about half of street price. The first is a Soapbar ll, great p-90 double cut. The second is the SE EG, Strat layout with Tremolo, kills about any Strat I ever owned, my favorite of the three so far. The third is the singlecut, this one has the bird inlays. I bought it for the sheer good looks of it, vintage white with a gold binding, very classy. With a small amount of set-up work it is great playing also. The quality of this series is amazing, not boutique quality but makes great dependable gigging instruments. The wide fat neck on these feel great to me, plenty of room on the fret-board. No worries about strings sliding off the edge. If you like thin necks these may not be for you, not quite baseball necks but pretty chunky. Pick-ups are serviceable and sound good. The humbuckers on the Singlecut are clear, just enough brightness, mids, and lows, not muddy or shrill, nicely focused. The only mod I will do is change the tone pot to an audio taper for better control over the sweep of it's path. The stock electronics are fine, just a matter of personal taste. I like to set up my amp with the volume on 8 and the tone on 5, this gives me control over volume and tone straight from the guitar without having to mess with my amp a lot and the SE guitars work well this way. The wraparound bridge is well designed, intonation is spot on and the guides built into the top of the bridge keeps the strings perfectly spaced. There are allen screw's at the end of the bridge if you need to make minor adjustments. Such a simplistic perfect design, I am an engineer as my day job so know good design. Tuners are good quality, some folks may want to put on those horrid locking tuners but I like simple. If a guitar doesn't stay in tune it most likely nut binding. The guitar comes with 9's and the nut is cut accordingly. If you want to go to heavier strings the slots will need widened. 10-48 are minimum for me especially with the 25 inch scale length. I have 11's on my SE EG but 10's work well on the Singlecut. I found a USA made 25th anniversary model but the neck didn't feel as good as on the SE's so passed on it. I've been playing for 40 some years and have a very large collection, when I see a guitar I like I buy it, and the SE's fit in with my best. In short the PRS SE line is a fantastic bang for your hard earned dollar.

Comments about PRS SE Singlecut Electric Guitar:

I purchased an SE Singlecut in January of 2012 from a local GC. I had my eye on it for months, but it had a really bad set up which was why I did not initially purchase it when I first saw it in Oct of 2011. Over the months, the price kept dropping, I am guessing it wasn't moving due to the setup and it finally reached a point where I was sure someone else was sure to snag it if I did not. It was nearly unplayable when I got it- unsure if it came from the factory like this or if the bad set up was a way to mask the many dead frets this instrument had. I discovered the dead frets after I pulled up the specs on PRS support page and attempted to set it up to factory spec as far as neck relief and action goes. That's when the issues of this instrument surfaced. The nut is cut for 9's- if you prefer another gauge, you will need to ( or have someone) recut the stock nut or replace the nut. I chose the latter, replacing with a bone nut. Long story short - I had to get a new nut and the frets leveled, but after that it is a gem. Beautiful finish, stock pickups are fine tho I may opt to change out at some point. It did not come with a truss rod wrench, which is proprietary. PRS will sell the wrench - it is a $3 dollar part, but they have a minimum parts order of $25, so I got the wrench, a t-shirt and a polishing cloth to hit the magic number. After the work I had done, it is an amazing playing instrument. A real sleeper in terms of value. Mine also did not come with a case but the skb les paul case is a near perfect fit. I have owned and played many high and low end guitars over the last 45 years and this is a great instrument- easily with the price being asked, adding the cost of a set up. New and experienced players alike will find much to appreciate in this instrument. I would have no hesitation purchasing a used instrument from musicians friend as every customer service interaction I have had with them has exceeded expectations.

    YOU should get an SE

    By Ken Smith

Comments about PRS SE Singlecut Electric Guitar:

I like everything about this guitar. I especially like the 25.0" scale. Shorter than a Fender...longer than a Gibson....right in that sweet spot between the two. Shortens up those long reaches with the pinky and string bends are just a little bit easier to control than the 25.5" guitars. This is my first SE and I strongly expect I'll get others down the road. Highly recommended.
In the world of set-neck fixed-bridge guitars this could be the best value out there.
I can find no quality issue at all.
I know most will think I'm a flake for saying this.....but I actually PREFER playing this to my Gibson Les Paul I paid 3 times as much for. The weight, the balance, the feel, the sound ... everything you would expect from a premium, pro-quality guitar but priced to be accessible to most everyone.

    I love this guitar!

    By GuitarTiz

    from Texas

Comments about PRS SE Singlecut Electric Guitar:

As I have said, this is now my #1 guitar, and the only thing that could ever supercede this guy is my own signature model PRS!
I've had several Les Pauls, Gibson Standards, Ephiphone Customs, and even a Gibson Studio, and this monster makes them all feel like cheap toys. I got extra luck, and found a fairly new, and 100% spotless, PRS SE Singlecut used at Guitar Center for $300, and it is now my #1 guitar. I will definitely be buying more PRS SE's in the future, you just can't beat $650 for a guitar that plays, feels, and looks this awesome. Sure, I replaced the pickups, added some strap locks, and I will eventually get some locking tuners, but I'd have done all of that even if it was a $3000 guitar. Also of note, I am able to play longer with this guitar, because the action is so light it's like playing almost nothing at all. I am in my 30's, I have RA, and I play in a band, so this guitar is a life saver. My hands have gone from swelling every gig, and practice night, to just being a bit sore.
Nothing short of fantastic. This thing is built right, and feels more like a $3000 guitar, and plays even better.
If you gave me a choice between the best $3000 guitar there is in my opinion, or as many PRS SE's as $3000 could get me, hands down I'd get the SE's.

Compare the rest, pick the best!

    By Greg

Comments about PRS SE Singlecut Electric Guitar:

Spend some time to compare Fenders and Gibsons of comparable price. Compare the workmanship, sound and playability. This is hands down the best guitar for the money out there. Over time, you'll find it sounds great, feels great, stays in tune, and is just flat out a joy to play. I couldn't be happier with the guitar or the service. Go for it!

    This guitar rocks.

    By Carl Hale

    from Kentucky

Comments about PRS SE Singlecut Electric Guitar:

It is not a perfect guitar. It is not the best guitar. But for the price, it's a great guitar. I often find myself playing more than I did 3 months ago when I bought this. My bandmates, friends and family all love this guitar. Even my Dad whose been in music most of his life (owned several Gibson guitars and even 2 American made PRS guitars) thinks this guitar is a great deal. If I was playing this guitar in a music shop and didn't see the price tag I would easily believe that this guitar cost almost twice as much, surprisingly its prices as a steal. If for some reason I lost this guitar, or it got broke, I would buy it again in a heartbeat.
Its somewhat basic. Everything that the specs tell you it has... it has. The Bird Inlays are absolutely beautiful, when I first played this guitar in front of my friends and family they were all stunned by them. Even though the picture doesn't show it well, it has a "wood" inlay that follows the outline of the body, its not much but it certainly adds to the look of the guitar.
I've dropped this guitar twice... not a single scratch, dent, nick or mark on it. It has a mahogany body and neck so its somewhat heavy, but compared to my Les Paul, it's about half the weight. The tuners are very good, they're not Grover tuners but they are certainly good. The humbuckers are actually a lot better than I was expecting when I first played this guitar, they can have a very bassy low and a great highs for soloing and classic rock. It has a 25" scale so its really good for bending notes, I can easily raise the pitch 3-4 half steps (and I'm sure if I tried, probably 5). This guitar only has 22 frets, but that is plenty for me considering the types of music I play (stuff like The Eagles, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith etc.). Overall, this guitar is of really good build and quality.
For the price, you PROBABLY won't find a better guitar. Although this is on the lower end of PRS' guitar spectrum (seeing that most of their guitars are well over this price), it's still a really good guitar. It's miles better than my Epiphone Les Paul, better pickups, better weight, better sound. It's just all around better. If I had the ability to go back and get this, or my Les Paul I would easily buy this.

    Better than Average

    By Anonymous

Comments about PRS SE Singlecut Electric Guitar:

So I stopped by a Bailey Bros. and tried this guitar out. The neck was smooth and the frets were low enough that it was easy to shred but equally easy to slide on. The sound from the neck and bridge pups were EPIC. It sounded like a $22k Les Paul I played awhile back. Its a buy.

Amazing guitar at a GREAT price

    By benjamin armstrong

Comments about PRS SE Singlecut Electric Guitar:

Overall? Buy the guitar! You won't be disappointed! My next guitar is most definitely going to be PRS!!!
This guitar is downright SWEET!! I love the wraparound stop tailpiece/bridge gives this guitar such a good resonance and definitely improves the tone. All around this guitar has great features. My only problem with it was that if I would have waited a month before ordering mine I could have got one with the bird inlays, but the moon inlays are just as good I guess.
PRS definitely has great quality control! Right out of the box this guitar was singing and it sounded awesome! The only one thing that disappointed me was that the pickups kept falling but it was easily remedied. Overall great quality!
Definitely a great value! This guitar has such a sweeeet tone for such a low price! Magnifico!!

    Extraordinary Instrument!

Comments about PRS SE Singlecut Electric Guitar:

This model may be the absolute best mid-priced guitar on the market. The PRS pickups are as amazing as anything I've heard in 25 years of playing, and I own them all, from Ric to Gibson. Only the Gretsch Corvette rivals the quality of the PRS Single Cut for comparable money.
