I got this guitar a few weeks back, and I must say I'm extremely impressed. Such fantastic sound and flawless finish at such a low price. This guitar is extremely simple, and is very easy to get a good tone out of. It doesn't have extra features that you don't need. The bridge position is very bright, and can get a little muddy even when it's on clean, but I like that about it. The middle position is good for rhythm and sounds almost Tele like on low volumes. The neck pickup sounds deep and fat, almost like a humbucker. All in all, very versatile, and can handle most kinds of music.
It was the best cash I ever spent. Beautifully sweet sound thru my Blues Jr. Very light & comfortable to play. Fat neck feels a bit odd at first but quickly feels fine. Great build quality. Makes my Epi's look sick. Better than any Gibson. Right up there with my high end Strats. All guitars should be this good. I don't know how they can do it at this price, but I've bought 3 other PRS SEs because of this one. Lovely!!
I bought mine a few years ago, right before they were discontinued. It's the Vintage Cherry color and I've gotten several nice comments on this guitar! It not only looks great but the sound of those P-90's and the mahogany body and neck are as smooth as silk AND as cruncy as crushed ice. It's not heavy and has great sustain. The quality is top notch, better than guitars costing ten times as much! This is the deal of the century in electric guitars. I own many Gibson's and Fenders and several other makes, but for the money this is the best guitar you can buy. Try one, and you'll see what I mean...
I got one of these a couple of years ago. First off I would like to thank Paul Reed Smith for designing guitars that are engineered with the guitar player in mind! For example...Smooth easy to play neck and easy to access the upper frets!! The Soapbar SE is an excellent guitar period! I've had hundreds of guitars.. that's no lie or embellishment! Buying and trading guitars is an addiction! Now I'm thinking about trading all my guitars for PRS Models! The Soapbar Pickups are great sounding.. and with a flip of the switch or tone/volume you can change them to all sorts of sounds!I hope these comments were helpful.
This is an amazing guitar and a great value. I have had Gibsons and Fenders over the years and the quality on this matches them all. It's solidly built, the neck is great and the pickups sound really nice. This guitar can do it all-it's like having a lightweight Les Paul, and it's easy to get great, deep, fat and crunchy sounds out of it. I have had mine for over 6 months and it looks as shiney and new as the day MF shipped it to me.
this guitar has wonderful tone in all positions.it has the bite , the snap , and the warmth that i can't believe .. I have some expensive guitars and they can't compare, what a bargain, I bought 2 of them that's how much I love it! this is my first paul reed smith and its greatttt! even the action is unbelievable, where were you 45 years ago. simple to use one volume one tone. less is more, yes!
I love PRS. I have several US made axes from PRS, Gibson, Fender. I wanted something I could leave on the stage without worrying about being nicked. There is a reason the PRS SE series won awards from Guitar Player magazine and this model was an editors choice. As they wrote, if you can't get your tone out of this, you aren't trying. Great build quality for off shore. Extreme ease of playability and the soapbars give you plenty of tone. Many US firms rushed offshore for a lowend guitar. PRS took their time to make sure things were right. While this isn't a Custom 22, it IS a PRS and it looks, plays and sounds like it. Great axe.
I just got my PRS SE Soap/P-90'; this guitar was suggested by a sales person.I was looking for the vintage P-90's sound but didn't want to spend too much...well I am glad I took their advice. Great guitar, sonically perfect P-90 sound....can play bright or the warm 60's Rock Sound.Nice finish and the maple wood grain is beautiful and it comes with a high quality gig bag.
Just ordered and received mine in Vintage Cherry. Beautiful wood/grain, neck, finish. Fun and comfortable to play, looks A+. As nice as any Gibson I have had and I love the sound- the soapbars are unique. I like them because they never sound too thin, trebly or scratchy. A great rock guitar and outstanding value.
PRS has built a Great Guitar!! I love the Soapbar pickup sound!! This guitar is very easy to play!! The neck fits in my hand perfectly.. it's hard to lay this guitar down! My guitar came setup perfectly too!I look forward to buying more PRS models in the future!!
My budget limit was $500 and I had two choices. A guitar with a fancy top (example: Ibanez ART/Artist series) but mediocre tone and decent playbility, or a plain looking guitar with great tone and playing feel. The SE Soapbar is the latter of the two. It is very basic but well built (for an Asian-made guitar) and sounds awesome. I played about 20 different guitars, many more expensive, before settling on this one. I fell in love the the ringing, crystal clear clean tones, thick, full growl I can get with the right gain settings. I love how you can find a sweet spot on the volume knob where picking dynamics affect distortion level. I found the sound to be best on bridge or neck pickup, not so much on both. I can get a wide variety of tones without touching the amp or processor. I like the 12" neck radius (14 or 15 feels too flat on an electric, personal preference). I was after an Epiphone Les Paul or something similar, but at around $500, nothing touches the SE Soapbar for quality, sound, and playability.
I bought this guitar about a month ago as my first electric guitar. I got it because of its low price and because every single review was good. This is another. I play it through a Line 6 spider three amp and it plays like an angel. It has a great tone and the neck feels great. The only thing I don't like about it is I have no clue how to adjust the intination. So far, I have had no problems with it and I hope it stays that way. It is a great buy for any level af guitar player. Well done PRS!
this is a great guitar, neck feels great, pick ups are sweet. rythim or lead, amazing guitar
I played this at a local shop after seeing it advertised on this site. I was impressed on how light it felt and how comfortable the neck was. If you are looking for something that has a beautiful clean tone this might be what you need. For the price it is worth it if you want that vintage sound.
I have been playing for over 30 years and used to have a soapbar custom Gibson back in the 80s. I always regretted selling that guitar. I went to a PRS clinic and saw Paul Reed Smith and got to play a lot of PRS guitars. I never thought about buying one before this but was more than impressed with the sound, playability, and quality of these fine guitars. I can't put this thing down. If you are looking for a great sounding and playing guitar that has a ton of tone, this might be the best value in solid body electric guitars.
