A new finish, a new neck, and Narrowfield pickups for more tonal flexibility.
PRS's new 22 fret, 25" scale length Studio model electric guitar is a fresh, modern rendition of a traditional single-single-hum guitar set up with the beauty and brightness of a maple top. The possibilities are vast with PRS's proprietary 57/08 Narrowfield pickups in the middle and bass positions in conjunction with a 57/08 humbucking bridge pickup. The Narrowfield™ pickups focus the string attack much like a single-coil but are hum canceling. The result is a new sounding pickup system, which blends features of single-coil, soap bar, and humbucking pickups. Screaming lead tones, crisp rhythm tones and 5-way blade switch also enhance the flexibility of this guitar in the studio or on stage.
Other features include mahogany neck, V12 finish, rosewood fretboard, "pattern neck" with "pattern thin option," 2011 birds, PRS tremolo bridge, PRS locking tuners, nickel or gold hardware, and redesigned lampshade knobs volume and push/pull tone controls.
Finish should enhance the look, sound, and feel of a guitar by accentuating the wood's inherent beauty and feel without hindering its natural resonance. And PRS Guitars' new "V12" finish does just that. Introduced at Experience PRS 2010, "V12" is a very thin, hard, and clear finish that will not crack or react with thinners. After roughly 12 years in development, it is halfway between acrylic and nitro but with a classic feel all its own. "PRS models with this new finish feel like old instruments," said Paul Reed Smith.
Pattern Neck Shape
Neck shapes have always been a high priority for us and a hallmark of our quality. A guitar should feel comfortable, like "home," as soon as you pick it up, and the neck is paramount to that connection. Perfected after years of prototyping, the new "Pattern" neck is an updated Wide Fat PRS neck style based on Paul's pre-factory design. These necks were found on the instruments built for Carlos Santana, Peter Frampton and Howard Leese from the late 70's to the mid 80's.

Comments about PRS Studio 10-Top Electric Guitar:
You need to hold it, play it and hear it. If you do, you'll probably agree with me. If you're in the market for a top-quality instrument, then you should definitely try one of these. Every time I plug this guitar into my Egnator 4100 head and turn it up to a level that provides a little physical presence to the sound, I can't help but smile from ear to ear.
This guitar offers large pallet of sonic features that are well supported by build quality and design. The 57/08 humbucker in the bridge just flat-out sings. This pickup offers clarity and articulation that many humbuckers lack. The narrowfield version in the neck and mid positions produce equally beautiful, but distinct, tones as well. Tuners are top quality and are rock-solid stable. The tremolo bridge built for accent work rather than radical string-slackening effects. It works great for it's intended use and keeps the guitar in tune. I really like the feeling between my palm and the bridge. It feels very much at home. The 5 way pickup selector and position of volume and tone pots are very intuitive, especially if you've played strats. The neck and frets are flawless and smoothly polished for easy bending. The setup is perfect from the factory.
I've never help or played a guitar that is more carefully crafted. Everything is top-notch. One aspect of the guitar that is over-the-top is the finish. The V12 finish is so thin and hard that the guitar is able to resonate superbly. Not only do you have 1st harmonic (the primary tone) sustain, but the body also supports sustain of higher harmonics as well. The body is very tightly crafted to aid in this "whole body" support of the string vibration. This guitar produces a quality of tone that I've very rarely heard any guitar produce. The sustain of higher harmonics on the strings produce magical tones. I can't get over this aspect of the guitar. Amazing.
While I would have liked to pay less for the guitar, I must admit that it is worth the high price. The guitar is essentially hand made to very high standards. The man hours alone require the price. If you don't appreciate what I'm saying, then you probably shouldn't buy one. If you work in manufacturing or you've made things with your own hands, then you get an immediate sence of it's value.
