I have been playing guitar since 1976,and I felt that I owed it to myself to finally spend the money on a good quality instrument.Having owned a few different guitars -including a customtelecaster,a dinky reverse, and an epiphone SG-Idecided to try and find an "all-in-one" axe-One that would cover several musical bases...Aftersearching for Versatile Guitars on the Web,I noticed that the PRS Swamp Ash Special seemed toconstantly show up as a top choice among fellowguitarists-So, I found the nearest dealer with one in stock. This happened to be 8 hrs.one way drive from where I live!!Let me just say -thisinstrument was well worth the gas money spent...I tested this axe against several other high endguitars -including a Brian Moore MC1 $3800.00model,and a Gibson Les Paul Standard Goldtop.TheSwamp Ash Special truly outshined the others in not only it's playability, but where it really counts-the TONE!! Nothing else I tried that daycomes close to the variety, and quality of sounds available with this guitar. No Sacrifice in tonewas made in the quest for versatility here.Possibly the coolest thing about this guitar ,is the way the humbucker sounds can be cleaned up simply by pulling out the tone knob. This engages the single coil sounds available.Brilliant!!!!!!!Truly worth the price...

I custom order mine with the figured maple neck bird inlays and I wouldn't take it out of the case for a year to play a job with it. I installed PRS 9 and a halfs on the guitar. This guitar plays so good and sounds great now it goes with me when playing. I enjoy playing hot telecasters most of the time, but this swamp ash special is something, that is for sure!

I went into a local music shop and they one of these lying around. I put it in my hands, and it fit like a glove. The feel is amazing. The fretboard is smooth and the pickups actually do their job. Its worth the money!

A Guitar to Cherish

By Izzi

from Undisclosed

I?ve owned this guitar for a little over 2 years, and I must say, this is one of those guitars you?ll keep for the rest of your life. As a lot of other players say, this guitar is very versatile. The different tones you get are amazing. In MY opinion, if you have the pull switch down, you?ll have the tone of a Gibson. And if pulled up, you have the sound of Fender Strat. You get the best of both worlds. No matter what type of music you prefer, this guitar will satisfy any players need for tone.

This just rocks

By Anonymous

I was once really into fenders, but a friend of mine pointed me to PRS when I felt that I just was not getting that good sound and feel anymore from Strats. But now, I got my Swamp Ash Special (in tri color, which I absolutely love), and it sounds and plays like a dream. No sound is out of the range of this guitar (save really hard death/black metal tones, but metal is feasible on this axe), which is a big plus to me. Extra thanks for the middle Seymour Duncan pickup, which is really great for clean stuff and finger picking. All in all, a great guitar that anyone can grow to enjoy.

A great buy...

By Eric-FMwIM

from Fort McMurray, AB

Mine has a rosewood fretboard and dot inlays. I am quite happy with this guitar and I think I got my money's worth. This is a player's guitar. My only gripe is the vibrato and the fact that it doesn't stay in tune even after slight bar usage. I hardly ever use the bar on any of my guitars and I have the Swamp Ash's bridge pulled in tight. I know there are many things I could do to improve the tuning stability but it isn't that important to me.

Hands down a great guitar for the serious player

By LesPaulObsessed

from Bethesda, MD

Everything from the push pull coil taps to the locking tuners works perfectly and the range of tones you can get from this guitar is nothing short of incredible. I just recently added this to my guitar collection and it sounds better than guitars twice the price. Yeah it's a PRS and it's gonna be incredible but this guitar plays like a dream and sounds even better. The balance of the guitar is also just PERFECT. Put a strap on and let go of the guitar and it will hold itself perfectly without being too heavy on the shoulder. Also the maple fretboard with the birds looks great under stage lights. I was worried the maple would make the birds blend in but on stage those birds look incredible. And this is all coming from a guy who considers himself to be a Gibson guy.

PRS is overrated

By ToneSnob

from Phoenix, AZ

I bought this guitar with high hopes. It let me down. It's a nice guitar, but you can get much better tone and feel from guitars half the price. I kept this for a year then traded it for a Gibson, which cost less and has way better tone and feel.

Serious guitar

By Nolo-Edizh

from TX

This guitar is for serious musicians, its maple freatboard will embrace your fingers like youll never felt before, its got the best of both worlds, Gibson like humbukers with a Fender feel.. just be kind to adjust it exactly to your string gauge and youll never let go of it.. I mean it.
