OVERVIEW

A solid spruce top and period refinements make this vintage-style OOO guitar a winner.

The Dirty Thirties Dust Bowl-inspired OOO is meant to sound great wherever the road takes you. With a solid top and old-style matte sunburst finish, it sits at the perfect crossroads of classic sound, vintage style and exceptional value. Like the original Montgomery Ward mail order guitars in the first half of the century, the Dirty Thirties OOO is the perfect companion for singer-songwriters, folk stylists or traveling troubadours.

All of the Dirty Thirties guitars start with a solid Spruce top and rosewood fretboard, with bone nut and saddle. Recording King finished each guitar with classic extra-large fretboard dots, aged ivoroid body binding, satin sunburst finish, vintage-inspired tuning keys and the historic Recording King headstock.

The Dirty Thirties Series packs excellent playability and historic vibe into an ultra-affordable package that makes vintage style accessible to even the most budget-conscious players. Case sold separately.

Comments about Recording King Dirty Thirties OOO Solid Top:

I've had this guitar for a month now. I purchased it to use for teaching primarily; & also to use on small gigs with my students. I must say I'm very impressed with it. The sound is already starting to open up giving it a rich & clear tone. It is very comfortable to hold & play. I also like the "1930's" look & vintage quality to it. I can not find any flaws in workmanship or set up with mine. It was good to go right out of the box. I get the ocassional buzz when I strum it aggresively but nothing to worry about. I liked this guitar so much I orderd another Recording King acoustic electric as well. It is well built too. Recording King does not spend the huge amounts on advertising like the other guys & eye candy on in all the magazines; therefore they are a lesser known brand. However, let me assure you they do not skimp on quality. I am now a loyal Recording King customer for sure.

It is best suited for teaching, small gigs, practice, songwriting, etc. But, I have used it in public performances & it did just fine. I would take this guitar anywhere to play. The sound & quality is very nice. All in all it's a huge bang for your buck. I really like mine! It's my new best friend & I look to play this jewel for a long time putting lots of miles on it.

I've owned Gibsons, Fenders, Martins etc. over the years (been playing 35+ years). As I get older (& wiser) I realize I want to have guitars around me that I can actually play. Not junk, but nice guitars that I can actually play without fear of something horrible happening. And, if something horrible did happen, I can more easily replace this one. I like to hand it to my students & let them play on it. Could I do that with a vintage Martin or Gibson? Probably not out of fear of something happening. So, in the end, what good are those vintage instruments really except to collect? Now, don't get me wrong, I have nothing against collecting vintage guitars & I fully appreciate the value & prestige of those instruments. But for me, I like the guitars like this one: fun, inspirational, affordable & efficent. What more could you ask for?

Comments about Recording King Dirty Thirties OOO Solid Top:

This is a beautiful guitar. I actually played my friends Martin and to me this sounds just as good. The feel also feels like a very expensive guitar. I love everything about this guitar and it's rich sound. I used to play and dropped it for many years, so I'm kind of like a beginner again and I am starting to get back into it so I wanted something I would enjoy playing and had a great sound. I also love the vintage look, feel and sound. It reminds me a my first guitar I got for Christmas except this one is a well crafted instrument. It really feels well made and sturdy. My only small complaint is the action feels a little hard on my fingers, but I think that is because I have not played in a long time. I don't think you could get a nicer sounding guitar for this price.

Comments about Recording King Dirty Thirties OOO Solid Top:

I was more than a little concerned when I tuned up and started to play. The guitar looked great, but sounded "dead," with little musicality to the supplied strings and no sustain at all. It just needed some top notch strings, though. I put on a set of Martin FX (flexible core) strings, .11-.47, and it started singing. Action is low enough that barre chords and fingerpicking are a snap. The melodies and words started coming and I can tell there will be many more. It's size will make it an ideal travel guitar. Great quality for some small change!!

Comments about Recording King Dirty Thirties OOO Solid Top:

I purchased the single O version and had a hard time putting it down so beforeI wore it out I took the time to order the Tpiple O which joins past the twelfth fret. These guitars are just fun to play. I own quite a few guitars and many of them are fantastic guitars yet I seem to have more fun with these just sitting around the studio. Buy one because you won't regret it. I saw some reviews where people had some issues. That is to be expected in a cheap guitar made in China, but Musician's Friend always makes the situation right.

Comments about Recording King Dirty Thirties OOO Solid Top:

This guitar arrived last night. I have been looking for a smaller body guitar for my 15 year old daughter who is learning to play. The dreadnought guitars are not comfortable for her and she had been learning on a Korean made laminate top guitar from the 1980's. I had been checking out this guitar and with the price drop, pulled the trigger. I am extremely happy with the quality of construction and the sound of the guitar. Best of all, my daughter is really excited to play it. I will be sneaking it away from her from time to time because it is a fun little guitar.

Comments about Recording King Dirty Thirties OOO Solid Top:

It felt really nice to hold when I first took it out of the box. I was quite excited; I had read good reviews for this one.

But I quickly found it sounded really dead, so I changed the strings (must've been cheap ones) and voila! That did the trick. The resonance is good. Though I am experiencing a bit of back buzz...

Comments about Recording King Dirty Thirties OOO Solid Top:

I traded some recording gear for this guitar and was impressed with how nice it played and its looks. I put a LR Baggs active pickup in the sound hole, and replaced the tuners with some Kluson/Gibson-style tuners. Looks like a Gibson and sounds great plugged-in live! Bone saddle, bone nut, great finish, on a guitar in this price range is great!
