Sitka spruce top, Mahogany back and sides, herringbone purfling, and grained ivoroid binding give a nod to this guitar's historic heritage.

The Recording King ROS-16 is a 12th fret OOO-style acoustic guitar crafted from a vintage 1902 design. With a solid AA-grade Sitka spruce top and mahogany back and sides, this guitar has the warm intimate sound you would expect from a classic 12th fret. The acoustic guitar's 1-13/16" nut width is a fingerpicker's dream, and professional appointments like the rosewood fretboard, ebony pyramid bridge, bone nut and saddle insure this acoustic guitar sounds as great as it looks.

Comments about Recording King ROS-16 Century Series 12th Fret OOO Solid-Top Acoustic Guitar:

I'll try and keep this short. If it's not feeling right give it some time… they are very well made.

My friend set mine up in less than 10 minutes, which I highly recommend, and it's playing easy and staying in tunes. It has a dual action truss rod, which is easy to setup once you have watched instructions on YouTube! Don't turn more than ½ turn in either direction. Unless your climate is exactly what it was in China when they boxed it up, you probably need to do it.

It's made with high grade woods and wood takes time to acclimate to different environments. I had an electric that took several days before it was fully settled in.

The sweet tone is very easy to sing over vs a typical dreadnought or even an OM. This makes it my number 1 couch guitar. For an equal quality guitar it would cost 2 to 3 times more if made in USA.

Comments about Recording King ROS-16 Century Series 12th Fret OOO Solid-Top Acoustic Guitar:

I am a player with 20 years experiance and have had many guitars over that time. Currently own a Yamaha LS16, Simon& Patrick Showcase Rosewood,Martin D-28 and a few others. Bought this mainly for Ragtime Guitar. Very good sound for the money. Some players might have a problem with the v-neck and 1-13/16's nut spacing. Quality Control needs work. Terrible looking rosewood fingerboard and poor inlay work. Glue is visable where the fingerboard joins the soundhole. Dust specks in the finish. Have heard that some have a problem with bridges lifting. Mine seems fine. For me the main thing is the sound. Over the years I have played very few guitars that sounded better for the money.

Recroding King ROS - 16

Comments about Recording King ROS-16 Century Series 12th Fret OOO Solid-Top Acoustic Guitar:

Sound's good and looks very pretty from any angle. The overall combination of the slotted head, OOO body, wider fretboard and attractive appointments give this guitar a classy "retro" look and feel.
I really like the 1 13/16" fretboard for finger style playing. I also own a guitar with 1 3/4" (a little too narrow) and one with 1 7/8" (almost too wide). In the immortal words of Goldy Locks, "this one's just right!"

"V" neck is more comfortable than I thought it would be. It's actually a very subtle "V" that still allows for quick movement up and down the fretboard.

12 frets to the body (i/o 14) makes for less tension on the strings and lighter action overall.

The spruce top tends to bring out the highs and lows while the mahogany laminate back and sides tend to bring out the mids - a great combination!
Seems to be built well. Body binding looks great. Finish has a deep shine! Nice looking woods all around. Open tuners are very classy looking. Clean work on the slotted head.

I played some China guitars from the 90's that were very bad and I must say that Chinese made guitars have come a long way!!!!!

The finish is a bit thick where the neck/fretboard attach to the top. There's a small piece of cloth (looks like cheese cloth) glued to the top bracing that is visible through the sound hole.
Similar guitars from other manufacturers are thousands more. (Laminated mahogany back and sides bring the price way down for this instrument.)

Not what it seems

Comments about Recording King ROS-16 Century Series 12th Fret OOO Solid-Top Acoustic Guitar:

I would not buy this guitar based on my experience with it.
Not really anything special. It looks like the quality of a lower priced guitar.
When I got This guitar, I thought it was very cheap quality in my opinion. First off, the top is not tinted like the picture. It is a bleached white, poor grade of spruce. The bridge buzzed and vibrated, the neck was HUGE! Maybe true to the vintage that Recording King was trying to copy, but way bigger than a 1951 Tele! The fit and finish were OK at best. Sound was "Ok" but nothing special.
WAY too much money for a guitar of this quality.

Impressive

By OpenDGuitar

Comments about Recording King ROS-16 Century Series 12th Fret OOO Solid-Top Acoustic Guitar:

I would rate this as a best buy! Small body with rich tone, and classy looks. Plays beautifully.
When the price of gold shot up I sold my high school ring and got an ROS-16. I wanted a small body guitar with slot head and had to be on budget. I've been playing it now for 3 months and I'm very pleased with it. Very high quality solid top and classy herringbone trim...could pass for a Martin. Downside items: longer scale length than I wanted, so it's stiff like a dreadnought, has laminate mahogany body, and poly finish. And none of those downside items matter. Plays like a dream, punchy rich sound, and stunning looks. GREAT butter bean tuners! Thought that the rosewood fretboard matched with ebony bridge might be weird, but looks great, and snowflake position markers classy. Workmanship inside is as clean as any high end guitar I've seen. Truss rod may rattle a bit it you drive it hard. Probably just needs a small tightening or a rubber and shim to quiet down. But fingerpicking folk or blues it is never heard. If you are on a budget this is a great buy. Been playing 30+ years and with high end handmade axes. This little one holds it's own.
Clean workmanship and materials are great.
Guitar building tech has improved so much in the past few decades that low cost can mean high quality.

Very Impressed

Comments about Recording King ROS-16 Century Series 12th Fret OOO Solid-Top Acoustic Guitar:

I just got this thing yesterday. I let it set overnight to warm up(I'm in the cold northeast). I tuned it this morning played it for a few, and put it away. I got it out again late this afternoon, and its still in tune, so it seems pretty stable. It sounds great, set up was great out of the box, lots of volume. I'm very impressed.
