OVERVIEW

A rock icon from the days of the British Invasion.

The Rickenbacker 360 Electric Guitar broke all the rules when it appeared amidst the British sound of the 1960s. Subtly updated through the years, this deluxe semi-hollowbody with its special contour around the entire body perimeter is incredibly comfortable. The unique body shape and rosewood fingerboard inlaid with triangular pearloid markers offer rich, retro visuals. The maple neck has dual truss rods while single-coil pickups deliver everything from clean tone to biting overdrive. Controls include volume and tone via a 3-way selector for each pickup. A master preset allows tone and volume settings to be accessed instantly with a toggle. Stereo output is standard with the Rickenbacker 360.

Check the drop-down menu to the right to select colors and/or other options.

A die-hard Strat guitarist for decades, I always wanted a Ric and finally broke down and bought the 360. It is now my primary guitar because I can more easily play both lead and rhythm on the same guitar without any sacrifice to sound, clarity or tone, no matter what amp I plug it into. The first thing you'll notice is the narrow, low-profile fretboard (compared to a wider Strat fretboard or the Ernie Ball Music Man Armada's baseball club fretboard, both of which I enjoy for breathing room when playing the blues. The Ric's action is very precise and accommodates fast fingering exceptionally well without any fret buzz or other collateral noises. It's a light guitar and feels like it was measured to fit my body and hands. My Ric-360 is 23 years old and in showroom condition, so I was amazed how well the years have been to this beautiful guitar. The craftsmanship is top-notch; American made with no sacrifice to quality. The only downside I have to offer in this modest review is that the tone controls are just so-so. You'll need to make your adjustment at the amp for the most part, but this really doesn't quality as a "negative" of a "con". If you ever get a chance to play one of these exceptional guitars, don't deny yourself the opportunity.

In most respects the worksmanship on the instrument was really good. However, there were thousands of tiny scratches running vertically on the front and back of the instrument. Not terribly noticeable, but I have never seen this on any new guitar I have ever bought. It looked liked either Rickenbacker skipped a step in the finishing of the guitar or possibly that someone (don't know who or why) had done a really bad job of buffing the finishing for some unknown reason. It definitely made me question the history of the instrument. Also the action was really high and the neck needed adjustment right out of the box. It did not play or sound the way it should. After I spent my own money on a setup locally, it played and sounded much better. My Fireglo finish on this Ric did not look like the picture on the Musician's Friend website. Their picture shows a finish that goes from a blackish maroon color all the way to a light yellow in the center. My finish was mush, much less impressive. It went from candy apple red on the outside to yellowish orange in the center. It is not nearly as impressive or eye catching. When I complained I was told by Rickenbacker and by Musician's Friend that these are all hand finished, and that each one is different. Yada Yadda Yadda. I would not have bought this instrument if I had seen it first. Due to the extremely long waiting period to get a replacement, I chose not return it. Now I wish I had.

Comments about Rickenbacker 360 Electric Guitar:

Can't say enough good things about this beautiful guitar. I purchased a Rickenbacker 360 in JetGlo finish, earlier this year. It arrived in beautiful shape, sounding and playing great, right out of the box. The Ric 360 JG is a classic, in my opinion, made famous by Peter Buck of R.E.M. The tuxedo look of the black with the white binding is just so darn stylin', and the full-width MOP inlays take it over the top, in terms of appearance. I am getting a warm and full clean sound, at any setting, without having to to make any adjustements from the factory set-up. I have also cranked this thing up with lots of distortion, and it really can roar as a rock guitar. If you think you would like a Rickenbacker, I don't think you can go wrong with this guitar. The RIC corporation simply puts out a consistently great product.

A dream come true

By JOAQUIN Felipe Spada

Comments about Rickenbacker 360 Electric Guitar:

As a longtime Beatles and Byrds, and later Jam fan, this is a dream come true, but it's so good it feels still like a running dream. I really feel I'll play better and write better songs from now on, such is my self-confidence now I own this desire object, forget Apple (for a while). Even I look better in a mirror with this guitar on.
This guitar is playable as Heaven. I tried the 330 before and it's not for me, but the 360's neck is home to my fingers. The adjustment buttons work perfectly and the explanation in the brochure really helps to make the most out of them, a thing some other brands could easily include in their guitars but don't.
Well this is not a cheap guitar but you can tell blindfold it's worth every dollar. Balance, sound, features, this is the Rolls-Royce of guitars, no wonder so much rock legends choose them. It's good even for breaking it, if you ask some Mr.Townshend.
For an European, even paying some dreary import customs, I paid less than I would have done in Germany (best continental prices). Mine was supposedly second hand but I couldn't find the difference to a new one, everything was like new, the case, the case keys into an unopened envelope... Not a trace of the "belt" scratches usual to a 2nd hand guitar.

Comments about Rickenbacker 360 Electric Guitar:

In the first hour of playing, I thought that I had made a mistake in buying it. Stopped and read the owner's manual (non-typical controls). Made a few adjustments in the setup. Bingo! If you are new to Rickenbackers, as I was, start with the pickup selector in the middle position, and with both volumes and both tones maxed. Adjust your volume at the amp. Now experience the full sweep of the blend knob. Good stuff! You can now find your own way. Excellent guitar, once you get it figured out, and adjust to the feel of the narrow and thin neck.

    RIC 360...a true classic.

Comments about Rickenbacker 360 Electric Guitar:

I recently purchased a Rickenbacker 360 Fireglo, which is absolutely stunning. The newer full-width inlays evoke the '60s style.Aside from being slightly out of tune upon arrival,(sitting in the case for 6 months),there's no quality issues whatsoever. It's a July 2010 and just as solid if not better than previous years.Flawless semi-hollow construction and finish, with that classic clear, cut through the mix sound. It's great to have the 360 back again.

I purchased the Rickenbacker 360 Fireglow 6 string model and it was great right out of the box. No set up was needed and the only thing I changed right off the bat were the strings. (I have a perference of strings) The electronics are great but take a little getting use too due to being very different from everything else I own. The sound is awesome and the pick ups very reponsive.
Quality is spot on and the workmanship is superb. Looks "SWEET" hanging off my shoulder and the only thing I can say is that I wish I could have own one a long time ago!

As I mentioned before I love the action on this guitar. And the Fireglo color is magnificent. And as far as the varnish on the neck I didn't like that it is sticky, I am hoping that a little wax will take care of it.
One of the best guitars I have played. The action is smooth right out of the box.
This quitar is beautifully crafted. I did fine the varnish is very sticky on the neck of the guitar. I am hoping that a little wax will help out with this minor problem.
I feel that I received the best value online here.

I purchased a Rickenbacker 360/12, about a year and a half ago, and decided to purchase the 360/6 as a companion. There is nothing like Rickenbacker quality and sound. I love the necks on these guitars, and they are smooth as silk to play. Musicians friend was very helpful in placing my order and getting these guitars to me in short order and in pristine condition.

Comments about Rickenbacker 360 Electric Guitar:

I got mine 4 years ago - black 360 JG. I have had NO intonation or tuning issues. The bridge IS NOT a floating bridge. It sits on 4 adjusting screws (2 per side) that rest in holes in a metal plate that it firmly screwed down to the body. It can't float or be repositioned like a true archtop jazz guitar floating bridge. It's solidly secured. The only thing I've noticed is that when you adjust the action it can get tilted forward if you lower one side too much at a time - you need to lower each side just a tiny amount at a time. If it gets tilted just loosen the strings and the tilt it straight then re-tighten the strings. Not a big problem. Tuners on mine are Schaler - i don't know what they put on them now. I've also had NO problems with the toggle switch. Like i said, mine was bought in 2007 so i can't attest to the latest models. Mine is solid throughout and no issues in 4 years of playing. Ric warranty is 5 years on parts so if the switch goes out they would probably have you take it to an authorized Ric dealer to get it fixed. Like i said - I've had NO problems in 4 years so i can't review their customer support. The case is an SKB like case black with solid latches. The other minor issue is that the string gauges that Ric recommends for this are weird - 10, 13, 17, 26, 34, 42 - so i end up buying two packages of D'Addario strings and mixing the guages. Ric makes a custom set but they are hard to find. Other than that, this guitar is awesome if you want a distinct tone that stands out from the crowd.

40 years ago when I first started playing I saw my first Ric and have wanted one since then. Well I finally broke down and bought one here and I have to say that of the 6 guitars I own this Ric 360 is by far the best, the action is like no other guitar, so simple it almost plays itself, I thought my 63 Fender was easy to play but the Ric 360 has by far the best action going and the sound is exactley what I was looking for, great for playing classic rock or blues .... If this guitar fit's into your budget then it is a must have. I am not in bands anymore so I bought this just for the pure pleasure of playing it

This is a good guitar for rhythm but not much on lead. I have three Les Paul Standards that always come to the rescue when I'm not satisfied with the Ric. This guitar seems to be more for show than playing. I was real excited when it came in, but soon went back to my Gibson's

I have had a few Rics before the most recent purchase of a 360 in Jet-glo this year. This one was even better than the others. The best build quality I have ever seen in an electric or acoustic guitar. The action was just about perfect when I received it. The tone is very rich. Clean tones shimmer and dirty tones growl. As unique as it is, I am impressed with how versatile is. I also play a Gibson Les Paul that I thought could do it all. The RIC does all that and more. A truely beautiful instrument visually and sonically.

Comments about Rickenbacker 360 Electric Guitar:

After looking everywhere locally, I sent away through Musician's Friend. I own a Fender Relic Strat and a VOS Gibson Les Paul 1960 dark burst. The Rickenbacker is just as well made and set up as any custom shop guitar I've ever played. I got the beautiful Fireglo, play it through a Fender Twin Reverb with an Ibanez TS808. I mostly play blues - blues/rock player, but it works well for classic country sounds and classic rock. This beauty is what Rickenbacker is all about; stunning good looks, amazing tone and American quality!
