I've considered purchasing this set for years now and finally pulled the trigger. I should have purchased it long before now. I couldn't have asked for a better "bang for the buck."
I expected to have to adjust the action on the guitar. Not necessary at all. The action is light and fast with no fret buzz. The neck is a bit wider than I'm used to, but not uncomfortably so. And the tone is absolutely fantastic for no more than the guitar cost. I played for at least two hours straight out of the box. It doesn't just sound good. This guitar looks good too. I bought the sunburst version. It's fantastic. The best part is, at the price I got it for, I have no issues letting friends bang around on it.
The mandolin is my first so the review will be less informative except to say that I love it. The tone is bright, it stays in tune, it needed no adjustments, and it looks like a much more expensive instrument than it actually is. I chose the black finish on the mandolin, and its flawless.
I genuinely could not be happier with the purchase. If you're considering learning to play guitar or mandolin, if you like to keep a "loaner" instrument around like I do, or if you just want to fill that third hook on the triple stand you got for Christmas, this is the best way to do it.

The guitar is very good for those that are beginning or just for jamming. It has a nice bright sound and plays well out of the box after tuning. The mandolin that was sent with it was defective. The bridge was not put on properly and the strings were not aligned with the neck properly.

Comments about Rogue Acoustic Guitar and Mandolin Pack:

You can't beat this package.
This was an impulse buy for me. I'm writing an e-book on how to set up a mandolin and needed another factory mando to use for illustrations and "before and after" examples. As a long-time guitarist I couldn't resist the opportunity to see what kind of guitar and mandolin you could get for a this combined purchase price.

The Rogue mandolin is a real bargain at its normal $40 price at Musicians Friend. If you're willing to spend an hour or two to set it up properly it's easy to play and sounds very nice (hence my e-book). The mando is well-built but as shipped the nut and saddle both need significant (but easy) work to get the action and intonation right.

The guitar came shipped with the action already adjusted very nicely. It sounded nice and bright, except the G string sounded dead. I assumed there was a defect in the guitar, removed all the strings, took the saddle out of the bridge and found a few bad things: there was a small plastic shim under the high E and A strings, which I removed; the bottom of the saddle was uneven, so I sanded it flat, and there was a notch in the top of the saddle where the G string sat, so I sanded that part flat as well.

After putting the strings back on the G string still sounded dead. Out of curiosity I reomved it, loosened the D string and mounted it in the G string spot. It sounded perfect. So I removed all of the strings are re-strung the guitar with fresh D'Addarios, and the guitar sounds great. The rest of the strings sounded OK, but it's easier to change them all at the same time.

The tuning gears are pretty low quality, but they work. The frets are all installed well, intonation is good, a couple of the frets could be dressed better, but this is nitpicking on this level of instrument. This is a great guitar for beginners and intermediates, or for good guitarists who need a traveling/campfire guitar.
The finish is beautiful. Tuning gears are adequate. Strings didn't look or feel like Martins to me, but who knows? The saddle was a little rough, but fixable with sandpaper.
This is an off-the-charts value. It's like buying the guitar and getting a free mandolin!

i give it a 4 only because they are pretty basic acoustic instruments with no real flash to them. but they dont have to be beautiful to sound good
the guitar is a little higher quality than the mandolin for sure. keep in mind these are made of laminate wood. the tuners and bridge of the mandolin are pretty obviously cheaply made but over all it is a nice sounding instrument. as far as the guitar, i was imediately surprised by the quality compared to its cost. i pulled it right out of the boxed, tuned it, and was blown away by the sound and playability. the finishing was beautiful and the action was set perfect for me. not to mention that there was absolutely no fret buzzing from mine. i actually enjoy playing it more than i do my takamine. also this guitar does not come with martin strings as listed, they are d'addario light gauge strings, which i like more than the medium martin strings i have on my takamine anyways

I have paid hundreds in the past for instruments that never stayed tuned.

Comments about Rogue Acoustic Guitar and Mandolin Pack:

I don't think you can do better for the price. I bought based on my previous experience buying a used Rogue 12 string. I liked that one and I like this 6 string and mandolin just as much.
I think the sound is fantastic for the price - I had a Sigma acoustic I bought 20 years ago for more than twice the price then that I gave to my son. This guitar sounds as good. I bought the mandolin combo becuase a another reviewer pointed out the mandolin was essentially free - the guitar was the same price without the mandolin. Was going to give the mandolin to my grandkids - turns out I'm having a blast playing with it. Mandolin looks decent,I have no idea about the sound cuz I have no experience to compare it to. The dogs don't run out of the room when I'm playing with it is the best I can say. Not that its bad as I said nothing to compare it to....
For the price I'm quite happy. Both guitar and mandolin have minor flaws in the finish - finish is a little sandpapery in spots on the mandolin, some very minor flaws where the neck meets the fret board on the guitar - but you really have to be looking. Tuners are decent on both and both hold a tune ok. Quality is better than I expected for the price.
It's great so far (3 weeks) for the price. I have an Ovation Applause and a Rogue 12 string, I enjoy this guitar as much as those. And the mandolin is a plus having a blast fooling around with it. I'm strictly amateur, so would rather have several inexpensive pieces that play decent for the variey rather than 1 big expensive one.

Comments about Rogue Acoustic Guitar and Mandolin Pack:

Bought this for the price! I figured if each piece was halfway decent they were worth the money! When I received them the sunburst finish was very nice. I tuned the guitar, but didn't have a tuner for the mandolin. A friend tuned it for me who has 2 and told me this one sounds almost as good as his more expensive ones. These are definitely well worth the money spent. My only suggestion is when you buy them at this price spend alittle more and atleast get bags for them. $60 will get you a mand. hard case & a decent bag for the guitar.Thats everything for under $150!

Best Deal on the Internet for guitar or mandolin

Comments about Rogue Acoustic Guitar and Mandolin Pack:

9 out of 10 aint bad - considering the price. I have bought this package deal 5 or 6 times and it is always a good deal. Plan on having the mandolin nut re-worked to lower the strings and it is a good idea to have the string slots on the nut of the guitar lowered too. Getting these 2 instruments professionally set up makes them play comparable to mush more expensive instruments and still stay at a very reasonable price.
I have bought this package deal 4 or 5 times because both instruments are well finished and they come at a phenomenally low price.
Guitar Features - the black finish is nearly flawless, the die cast tuners are much better than the typical covered tuners that come on inexpensive guitars. The strings appear to be Daddarios and I believe they are made in the USA. The factory setup is playable out of the box but I put it thru a complete setup just because I can.
Mandolin Features - The finish is nearly flawless, the tuners work fine and the fretboard is usually in good shape right out of the box. It can be played as shipped but I do a complete setup on it because it radically improves the playability.
The quality of both instruments is excellent consifering the price.
Guitar - the finish is usually nearly flawless - I did have get one with a clouded blueish finish but customer service gave me a replacement that was fine. The truss rod adjusts fine and the fretboard and fret heights are nearly perfect. I always do a complete fet mill and recrown on all my instyruments. The factory flatness of the frets makes betting them perfectly level quite easy. I usually end up taking .020" inches or so from the saddle height and lowering the string grooves at the nut considerably.
Mandolin - Very nice finish, nice level frets and fairly good adjustable bridge. I level and recrown the frets anyway and they are usually nearly perfect from the factory. The string slots at the nut always need to be lowered and it woth play right untill that is done. I also lower the adjustable bridge so far that I have to remove some of it to get the action as low as it can go.
This is absolutly the best value and price for the guitar and mandolin - coming in at $40 apiece. You will not find a better deal anywhere for instruments of this quality. I would expect to pay over $100 each for the mandolin or the guitar in a music store. Free shipping and great customer service make this the best acoustic instrument deal on the internet.

Comments about Acoustic Guitar and Mandolin Pack:

Tuned them up straight out of box. The guitar had good intonation, however the nut slots needed attention to lower the strings to a comfortable playing level. Strings were up ¼" on first fret. Worked on the nut slots and brought them down, put on new D'Addario strings. Plays well with a decent tone. The guitar had a paint chip on the rear of the lower bout, not much but it is there. For these reasons I rate the RA-100D guitar 3 stars ........
Then RM-100A mandolin was another project item. Replaced the nut with a TUSQ nut, leveled and dressed the frets, worked on the tuners (a couple were very hard to turn), put on new D'Addario J74 strings, set the intonation on the bridge, and tuned it up. WOW. The RM-100A has some bark to it. I am very pleasantly surprised. It has a great tone and the projection is out of this world for a cheap plywood mandolin. It holds tune well over time. It gets 5 stars ..... I bought these knowing that some setup work would likely be needed but neither of them were as bad as I thought they would be. Not sure if I would recommend to a newbie unless they have the skills, or know someone who does, to bring out the hidden magic in the instruments. I bought them specifically as project instruments to add piezo-electric pickups to make then acoustic-electric instruments. I will more than likely buy some more of the RM-100A's to setup and distribute locally to young people that show an interest in learning to play the mandolin. Please note that my 4 star overall rating is based on the instruments after setup work. This is a rating in comparison to other brands of comparable quality and price instruments, not compared to $600+ quality instruments.

Comments about Rogue Acoustic Guitar and Mandolin Pack:

Here is my story. I wanted to get a mandolin and saw this guitar as part of a Rogue Acoustic Guitar / Mandolin package on Musician's Friend. So I thought about it and said why not. Since I have my friends over often and someone always wants to play my guitar I wanted to get something I wouldn't have to worry about as much. I have a couple more expensive guitars (Fender Acoustic F-220-SB and an Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Custom PRO Electric Guitar). It's not that I mind if someone plays my guitar but I always find it lying on the couch or leaning on a wall and it drives me nuts. So at first I bought this Rogue Acoustic guitar mainly as a beater so in case someone broke it or sat on it, I won't be as devastated.

But I have to be honest.. this guitar sounds really good and has nice action and I find myself playing it every day now. It stays in tune. I read some reviews saying its not loud enough or doesn't hold a note but maybe its because they aren't using a pick? Because it sounds nice and the notes ring pretty. And every time I play it I just can't believe it's price. The mandolin sounds really good to. I would highly recommend as a second guitar if you have friends over, or kids or are going camping and you want a guitar that sounds good but at the same time you won't be devastated if it breaks or gets stolen. And like I said before, every time I play it I just can't believe it's price..

I'm looking to get an Epiphone PRO-1 PLUS or an Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar for my next guitar..

Great deal for both guitar and mandolin.Had to tweak guitar alittle for intonation.Mandolin was perfect and tighten up machine tuners on both. They now stay intune very well. For the price you can't go wrong I bought them to see if it was a good deal to me it was.I own Gibson and Fender acoustic and electric guitars.Roque instruments for the price are very good. Musicians Friend picked out to good ones for me and I Thank Them.

Pretty much what I was looking for. I teach young ones to play guitar and maandolin. Just a little bit of setup was needed to improve playability and tuning but for the money you will not find a better deal.

When you order this combo ,also order ,martin strings from MF ,and change them out the day your instruments arrive . It is the only bad thing about either one of the instruments . The sound is rich and deep , out of the box ,but made a lot better than the strings that came on them , a simple and inexpensive fix . The guitar compares with an alverez regent , or the legend. The fret board is easy on the fingers and compares in placement of fingers ,to the martin d-35 .

It's and inexpensive guitar. A very good bargain.
Bought this guitar for my grandson, to keep him from playing with my Yamaha.
The mandolin is for me. The finish looks good and it sounds good for an inexpensive guitar. Same goes for the mandolin. Won't break the bank.

                      Surprised!

Comments about Rogue Acoustic Guitar and Mandolin Pack:

I have been playing guitar for 34 years. I have quality expensive guitars. I'm giving this 'combo' 5 stars, because as an instrument (both), and at this price (for both), my expectations were not very high at all---and I was pleasantly surprised.
I expected cheap, flimsy, poorly made "starter" instruments...but these don't fit that category in my opinion. Both well built...and with new strings and a proper set-up, play and sound just as good as more expensive instruments.
I got the Natural guitar, and Sunburst mandolin.
Was looking for an inexpensive guitar that I wouldn't worry about taking in a canoe, camping, and rugged outdoor activities, and the mandolin was a bonus. After removing the "tinny" steel Martin strings, oiling the fretboard, filing sharp edges on the frets, and restringing with quality Phosphor Bronze strings, (string height and neck bow was fine, so no truss rod, bridge, or nut adjustment was necessary on mine), I'm not sure I wanna let this guitar get beat up in the outdoors any more.
The mandolin, I haven't done much more than inspect it, tune it, and strum it a bit, because I'll have to learn a little more on how to play it. But the stock strings sound fine to my ears, so I didn't bother to change them out. The binding on this instrument is beautiful, and makes it that much more solid.
Both showed up with no visible damage, or missed 'quality control' issues (I don't count the sharp fret edges on the guitar, because at this price they're NOT going to "roll" the edges like Fender, Gibson, Taylor, etc...)
It is the less expensive, less resonant woods used to make these instruments that make them so affordable NOT the construction. Even as an experienced player, I wouldn't be afraid to recommend this combo to ANYONE looking to play. If you want to get the best out of them (or atleast the guitar) be prepared to do a proper set-up, or know someone that can do it for you.

Comments about Rogue Acoustic Guitar and Mandolin Pack:

I'm a ukulele player and I bought this package mostly for the guitar but the mandolin was a pleasant surprise. They both seem well constructed. Both stay in tune (allowing for new string stretch). The action is good too.

Not a bad guitar for the price. Needs constant tuning but not much. the String tuning sounds a bit different than fret tuning. Not a great deal of consistancy between frets and strings (flat or sharp). Never played a mandoline but I'm going to give it a shot since it was so inexpensive!
