Bought this guitar thinking it would be a good one to start my son on, as well as a kick around guitar for travels, etc. It's been much more than that! I have several acoustic guitars in my collection and have access to others (friend/neighbor) that I can play at any time, including a few of my favorite Deans, but I keep coming back to this one!! It has sort of become my unofficial favorite to play. Its not as pretty as some of my others, and although its not quite as bright (in tone) as my Deans are, its got a great range and I love the low end! Very warm tone!!! For the price its unbelievable. Of course, like me, you should probably expect a kick around guitar at your doorstep when you order so you'll be pleasantly surprised, instead of expecting a flawless guitar and letting your self down. I highly recommend it for the money.

After doing heavy research on a cheap acoustic to give my cousin as a gift, I went with the Rogue Herringbone (based on the great reviews and reasonable price). When the guitar arrived it looked very nice, but the sound was not very good. It sounded very chimey/metalic/harsh. I had to send it back (based on the sound)& wound up spending a little more for a blemished Washburn D10 that sounded 1000 times better. Had I received the Rogue as a 1st guitar...I probably would have given up playing. If you are starting out, Ibenez, Washburn, and Yamaha both make inexpensive and great sounding guitars.

rogue D size herringbone

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I have had eight Martin guitars in the last five years. I got this guitar as an outdoor beater. I just can't believe you can get a guitar of this quality for this price. The nack is pieced together (not one piece) and the tuning keys are not so hot, but WOW !!! It's great.

Nice Guitar 4-the money

This is a sweet sounding guitar for the money I spent. It has good action, and plays well, even with my limited capabilities. Not a professional musician, just like to play, and this one fits the bill.

Had to comment!!

Well I got this guitar 6 months ago. I sell used and vintage guitars so I get to play all differant types. I thought what the heck sounds like nice construction and hey the price. WOW I have been amazed. It looks like a dead ringer for a Martin D-28 and has many of the same consruction features. It just gets better every month. Put on some good strings and fall in love. I will be buying the AE cut out next. I sell the rest I keep These.

Great Guitar

This is an excellent guitar regardless of your skill level. Construction is well done, workmanship was good, the finish was flawless, and the tone is deep and full. I bought this as a Christmas present for a relative, and ended up playing it extensively for a week while I debated whether to keep it for myself. This was the 5th Rogue instrument I've purchased in the past 2 years, and they all have been well-made guitars that represented excellent value.

Great everything for the price

By ~LoneEagle~

I'm giving this guitar 10 stars on everything FOR IT'S PRICE. Now I know there's like way better guitars out there I'm sure. But I've played a lot of guitars in the hundred to two-hundred dollar range, and even some in the 400 dollar range, that just don't sound as good as this guitar. I was like WAY satisfied with this baby, and still am. It's been everywhere with me. I've brought it on the bus with me and played to pass the time in the terminals...all the way through New Orleans, Jackson and and Memphis and everything...By the time I got to my destination it was still perfectly tuned, so it holds it's tuning very well. Excellent craftsmenship and the whole deal...great guitar!

Great for the value

I've played a lot of guitars, own a LOT of guitars, and this guitar is pretty damn good. It's not as good as a martin, but hey, it's cheap and it's not bad. If you are a casual musician you should buy this guitar, why waste all that cash on a super expensive guitar you won't really get any value out of? Save up, play this guitar instead, you won't regret it.

The reviews are right on

By Tanner-unlp.

from Seagraves, TX

I bought this guitar based on the reviews and they are dead on. This guitar is the best one you can find in this price range. Perfect for practice, travel or a first guitar. This guitar stays in tune for a long time, was intonated good when I got it, it's loud, and has a nice steel sound to it.

pretty good guitar

By lsubslimed

from Seattle, WA

For the price this guitar has a nice crisp sound. Looks are nice, but I really don't care too much for the pickguard. Pretty much the only thing wrong with it is that the G string buzzes slightly, and a little glue showing here the fretboard sits on the spruce top. Other than that, this guitar is pretty good.

Great axe

By mr, electric

I got this guitar as christmas gift to myself, wow it sounded awesome, I jused tuned and played it. It is actually perfect, no scratches, no buzzing, great harmonics!sweet feel. The strings aren't the best, but I'm gonna play them out till I fell like changing them in a few weeks or so. I've played many Acoustics in this price range, and none comes clos and many much higher in price and are not as good as this. And it looks so sweet, I'm sure Neil Young would be proud of an axe like this. Pure perfection!

Impressed with the quality

By Tazz-uNvCM

from York,S.C.

I got mine about 10 days ago.I was very impressed with the quality of such a low priced guitar. The craftsmenship and materials in it was amazing for price. The finish is flawless, the herringbone detail work and the tone are very good.I tuned it one time and it has stayed in tune so far. The only thing I will do to it is to lower the action and put on a set of lighter strings. This guitar is definitely worth more than twice the price. I am going to buy another one for my son who has expressed an interest in learning the guitar, but is left handed so he cant use mine.

Exceptional value

By MCsplivens

Keeping in mind that this guitar sells for pocket change, I think this is a great guitar. It sounds fantastic, it looks great and appears to be very well made. The one I recieved had no glue slop inside. The back appeared to be sort of lightly flamed looking (probably coincidence but very nice anyway). The herringbone trim is striking and it came with a tortise shell pickguard (it looked black in the picture, so tortise shell is icing on the cake). Very hansome, traditional looking instrument. Fit and finish was impressive considering the price. I like this guitar alot. If your still hesitant I would add that it has been my experience buying from Musician's Friend is always a pleasure with a helpful staff and no hassles return policy. Keep up the good work and thanks.

I feel stupid...

By Tonehound

Wow! What a great sounding and playing guitar. After over 40 years of playing and buying guitars, I feel stupid for all of the money spent on expensive guitars. I had to sell my Taylor recently because of a job loss. I bought this guitar because of its price and the reviews I read on this site. It arrived this morning, I looked it over carefully and tuned it up. I could not believe what I was seeing and hearing. I felt like I had stolen the guitar for this price. Honestly, it sounded as good as any of my Taylors or Martins I have owned over the years. Very balanced tone and pretty good set up. I changed the strings a few hours ago to Elixirs and the tone was enhanced even more. Much fuller bottom end with the Elixirs. I don't miss my Taylor anymore!

GO FOR IT!!

By Patrick-Ulk81

from Swink, CO

See all my reviews

I have more than 30 years of playing experience and am BLOWN away by the VALUE for the money! It feels and plays like a MUCH more expensive guitar. In fact, the tone is similar to my old Guild D-50, except for a little more mids. It is certainly one of the more beautiful guitars I have owned(including my Martin D-35). I expected a OK guitar due to the reviews here and received a REAL usable instrument. P.S. PERFECT intonation.

It's Great!

By Mr. Adam

I got this guitar just a cheap back-up. I play a classical but I thought I'd get a HD for fun. I wasn't expecting much but I have been pleasently surprised. I put Elixers on the day it arrived and it has stayed in tune beautifully. It is not a stretch to say that it is comparable to my friend's Taylor A/E. I ordered it 4 days before Christmas and it arrived in 3 (for no extra shipping!) I Love MF!

China is coming!

By The Arbiter

First: I'm a former luthier for a very high-end American guitar company, and have been playing professionally for more than 17 years. I know good guitars.Second: This is a good guitar. That it's made in China and is so inexpensive is incredible.Third: I'm glad I'm out of the music business. With instruments of this quality and low cost, you will see the Chinese manufacturers take over the market in fairly short order. I recommend it highly. This is a great instrument for the money. Conclusion: A great instrument.

A cheep but desent guitar

By metalex351

from MI

I needed a cheep acoustic to play while I was working a receptionist job, and this guitar is good for that. I dont play acoustic stuff much but this guitar is good to dink around with for cheep. camp fires, easy access (no pluging in anything and all that), easy to write on (music that is).Quality wise: I'm not sure about the color of the body, its alittle bright for my taste, like yellowy or orangy, I either like them real dark or real light. The thing is made well, and is good looking, but mine, the pickguard I can probably peel it off if I tried.Sounds good. good enough for me
