OVERVIEW

A worthy starter guitar.

A marvel for its price, the traditional dreadnought design makes for one very playable guitar with a great, full tone. Perfect for strumming or fingerpicking any style of music, it's no wonder this guitar has been so highly rated by our customers. Features a genuine spruce top, die-cast tuning machines, 25-1/2" scale nato neck, and bound rosewood fretboard. It's easy to tune and stays that way. Rich, resonant sound and excellent projection and intonation make this a first guitar to be proud of. It's also great for camping or as a second guitar. Each guitar ships with genuine Martin strings for a quality sound right out of the box.

Check the drop-down menu to the right to select colors and/or other options.

I've had this guitar for about four years now, so it is time to do a review on this seasoned veteran, who has seen countless hours of play time at my hands.

Intonation is good, but not great. I hardly notice any issues most of the time.
Finish has minor blemishes that don't bother me for the price. I have the black model and the paint is a bit blotchy, but hardly noticeable.
Sounds very good for an eighty buck instrument, and the tone has improved over time. Nice, rustic sound - somewhere in-between warm and bright. Honestly, it sounds like it is made of cedar rather than spruce, or at least mine does.
Tuners are okay. Stay in tune fairly well.
Bridge saddle, bridge pins, and nut are of the same, cheap plastic that the binding is made of. It is kind of flaky, but has held up so far.
Neck is glossy and not as fast as a satin neck.
Rosette looks nice for a decal.

Bottom line - it sounds good and plays well. I have received compliments, saying that it sounds/feels like a guitar costing several hundred more. This is coming from two different players, one a virtuoso, both who used to be professional musicians and have played for 25+ years. My friend who has been playing about as long as I have (10 years) brings his Fender acoustic to my house, but I always end up stuck with the Fender because he won't put my Rogue down! :)

When I bought this, I had planned on replacing this a year or two after I got it with a higher end instrument, but it is still my first and only acoustic guitar. Buy it.

This guitar I would say is a good starter guitar for a kid to beat on and miss treat.

I normally play the higher end guitars but I gotten this one as a gift over christmas. I figured it is the thought that counts and I should atleast play it to get use to it so when I am asked to play it. It does not sound that bad to the listeners.

First thing is first. The string high or action of the guitar is set up way to high for my liking. I do not like to fight the guitar to play it. But at the same time most starting out guitarist quit because they do not know or cannot adjust the action. I tried everything to get the string hight correct. My last ditch atttempt was taking off the strings and pulling appart the saddle of the bridge out and filing it down by 1/18th of an inch at a time to get corret hight. But here lays another problem. The fret board is made of rose wood. It looked like it was not cared for so I had to go over while my strings are off and re-oil them and polish them off so they look and stayed clean.

I am right now thinking of refretting the guitar because the frets sit pretty high up from the neck which cause a very undelightful buzz sound. I first thought it was my playing but I grabbed my other acoustic guitar and played it and I go no buzz. I took a better look and notice the strings in compairison to the fret board have about .9mm off space when I push on the fret.

For a real serious guitar player this guitar is a work in progress but for the price it is not a bad buy if you got the time to put work into it to make the guitar sound perfect. I do like how the wood gain is almost perfectly stright and solid. But at the same time I would of aged the wood longer to give it better deeps.

If your child or you are wanting to learn guitar I would strongly recomend it for that and that alone. But buy an electric tuner because this thing falls out of tune real easy.

If you are a hardcore guitar player like me. I would say look for a different low end guitar this one needs a lot of work to make it play and sound like a high end.

I would give it 3 out of 5 stars

Comments about Rogue RA-100D Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I am 51, a professional musician all of my life. I have many guitars and really just wanted to add one that looked a little different and was black. I got way more than I expected for the low cost!!! The guitar is beautiful, well made, stays in tune, and surprisingly has a rich sound which I totally did not expect. I would say Rogue has outdone itself with this low cost line. I would recommend it to anyone for ANY reason! Does not belong in the category of a "cheap guitar." LOVE IT

I was very pleased with how easy the online process worked. It was straight to the point- easy. The price was outstanding!! I was afraid that I had purchased a youth guitar and I'd be stuck with it. I was wrong. I purchased a guitar for my son (17 yrs old) for Christmas and was very pleased with the packaging, the speed it was mailed to my home and the great quality of the product I purchased. I cannot wait for my son (who is teaching himself how to play and has been successful so far) to open this Christmas day.

Comments about Rogue RA-100D Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I own two of these and a friend asked for a recommendation for her son, who wants to learn guitar. She bought this and I offered to set it up, as my first two both needed the saddle lowered significantly. This one was perfect right out of the box! The only thing we did was to put new strings on it, and yes you should buy some new strings when you buy this guitar.

The sound that comes from the RA100D is amazing for the price. I have played guitars costing five times as much that don't sound as good. A friend played my Rogue when he visited and was embarassed that his expensive "big name" guitar didn't play as easily (thanks to my setup) or sound as good.

I have been playing guitar for over forty years and own and play premium guitars (Martin D35 and a custom classical guitar). Does this sound as good as them? No, but it's surprisingly close.

To check the setup, lay a quarter across the frets at the 12 fret position. The strings should be just a whisker over the quarter. If not, remove the saddle and sand it down until the strings are right there.

      Enjoy this guitar!

Comments about Rogue RA-100D Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I've probably bought between 10-20 of these guitars over the years for myself to use and as gifts to others, especially people starting out. You cant beat them for the money. What I meant by good "beater" guitar is you can take it anywhere and if it gets broken, buy another one! These are also a good "base" guitar to make improvements to and come out with a darm good sounding guitar, again, for the money. Here's my recipe....Take one Rogue RA-100 guitar, add brass end pins, a bone nut and bone bridge and listen to it now. Wow Wee. Turns it into a whole different guitar. I recommend the end pin chance first and if you like that, then spend the money on the bone nut and bone bridge. "Poor boys" heaven.

I purchased this guitar for my son as a start up guitar. Quality is great, finish is flawless and the tone is surprisingly rich. My only issue is the action of the guitar is way off. I made a truss rod adjustment and it helped. I may look at filing the bridge down just a hair to help more. Worth every penny spent, go get it as a starter.

This guitar seems well made and sturdy. It was set up well from the mfg. Good quality strings and easy to play. I have been playing since I was 14 and I'm 57 now. I have owned many guitars and this is a good one. The fact that it is affordable and plays well sells this instrument. I got it to take with me when I go camping, but I just ordered a pickup kit for it so I can use it on stage. Get it, you won't be disappointed.

out of the box, the action on this guitar was far too high, the intonation way off, the neck noticeably bowed low, and the fretboard rough. but after a few hours of adjusting, sanding, and cleaning, my overall rating jumped from one to four stars.

considering the ridiculously low price of this guitar, i would have given it five; but the tuning machines are among the worst ever made! grover rotomatics loom large on the horizon.

but it has a surprisingly good sound & great looks--enough to warrant my ordering an mf gig bag for basic protection, which turned out to be a perfect fit. if you want a knockaround campfire axe, check out this one.
