I bought this guitar for my wife for her birthday, and she loves it! I have played guitar for 15 years now, and she has always expressed interest in playing, and from time to time picks my guitar up (which is another model by Rogue) and plucks and chords around. However, being slightly smaller framed than I am, she has to stretch out a bit to get to the first few frets.
With this guitar, which is only slightly smaller than my full size, fits her great. It's comfortable for her, made with great quality and care, and best of all it doesn't look like a toy. I am also a full size man, and it is comfortable for me to play to. I'd recommend this to almost any slightly smaller size framed person in a heartbeat. It plays well, comfortable action, and incredible sound quality!

Pay for the next Rogue up and right now it is the same price and the one above it is a dreadnaught and it survived a tour in Iraq and is now used in a church in Uganda. Awesome piece of art.
It's that, a starter guitar. Like the other raters said, some got good action some don't. I ordered two, one had good action, the other did not. I now see cracks in the back finish giving the impression it is not solid wood or plywood even, it is particle board and veary easy to break. Both guitars have chunks broken out of the back of the guitars and hardly even used. I put them in my classroom and my students are rough on them, but one looks like it was kicked, but I didn't see it. The back of the guitar is fragile and proven when a chip broke off the back of the second guitar with just playing for five minutes. The students are afraid to play them because they fear getting blamed for the crumbling backs.
CHeap is cheap and these are cheap. I had a Rogue guitar free with guitar strings and thought these were like that one, but not so.
High action and fragile wood.

Comments about Rogue Starter Acoustic Guitar:

I teach 420 inner-city students, 64 of which started guitar this Fall, 32 more starting in a month. I was looking for a guitar that was cheap enough I could convince donors to "sponsor a child" with later this year (to replace/expand our class set), but wanted to "test-run" a model first semester to see if it would be worth the investment. The Rogue passed the test with flying colors.

I bought one of these in August and it has done so well, it's by far my best guitar out of my class set (a donated mix of used First Acts and a brand I don't know-many unlabled). When two of my other guitars have broken beyond repair by last week just from the hardiness of daily playing by multiple kids, temperature adjustments, etc., I replaced them with two more of these Rogues (the kids love the different colors, too!).

The best thing about this model is the low action - this makes learning so much easier for beginners. They're still adjusting to steel strings, but without having to put as much pressure down as a lot of guitars require.

The tone is really good for this price, but obviously not the same as my personal Taylor.

I LIKE that it has somewhat a softer volume when playing without a pick - this allows the kids to have effective practice time without the room becoming a din. We add picks for more volume for our "jam sessions" (their playing tests).

As a music teacher searching for the best options for my situation, this was a good solution.

I've recommended this to my scholar's parents with confidence, knowing they don't have much money to spend on a guitar, and this is the best bang for their buck.

Comments about Rogue Starter Acoustic Guitar:

We bought this guitar for our daughter for Christmas this year. My husband sat down to play with it to check the quality prior to wrapping it and putting it under the tree. He said that the strings were a little tight and for her fingers we may want to buy lighter strings, but the quality of the guitar is very nice for a inexpensive guitar. We aren't sure if she's going to enjoy playing so we won't be out $$$$.
We've read that it seems that the guitar doesn't stay intune. At this point we aren't sure. We do expect to have to tune it 3-4 times before it sticks (just like you have to sometimes with a piano).

I bought this for myself (I'm fairly short statured at 5'2) because I played a little in highschool. I must say - if you have the dough, you can't go wrong with this. At first I thought I had a tuning problem (I'm really new so when I started tuning I used an app) but in the expierenced ear and hands of my buddy - it stays in tune. I also purchased one for my husband and one for his father so we could all practice. The family that plays together, stays together. :)

Comments about Rogue Starter Acoustic Guitar:

I wrote a review before, but couldn't go back and edit it. I mentioned that I was going to change strings and see if that had any effect on the sound; it was horribly flat, with an emphasis on "horrible." I changed the strings, and got 5 of the 6 strings to tune, although none would stay in tune longer than a minute. The "G" string would almost tune to G, and then the tuner would make a popping sound, and slack off again. Further inspection revealed that the tuner was shaving fine slivers of metal each time I cranked on it. I knew I couldn't get another guitar that would excite her like this one would, for the price. It wasn't worth the effort of returning it and hoping the next one would be better. Here's what I did: I found a set of #2516 Golden age tuners. They slipped right into the existing bushings and all the screw holes lined up perfectly. I put on a set of D'Addario EJ116 Phosphor Bronze/Light strings and the guitar sounds surprisingly good, and even better, holds a tune forever. I about doubled the price of the guitar by doing this, but I wouldn't invest any more than that in it. I wouldn't have any qualms about recording a solo with this guitar now. Don't know anything about it's durability; the fretboard seems to have a paper thin veneer overlay, but this guitar is for a 5 year old with the hopes that she is actually serious and committed to playing. I would recommend this guitar only to someone who knows the odds up front, and is willing to invest a little extra in it; in the condition it arrived, it wasn't usable. But, after all, it was pretty cheap.

I have Martins, Ovations, Epiphones...this is a great practice guitar! No, doesn't sound like my Martin, but plays nearly as well. This is not a toy.

Great size for me, good sound with Martin SP strings.
Needed a couple adj. to the neck, bridge to set up the action. Overall this is a great little guitar for what it is, and fun to play.
Would have given 5 stars except in the picture the walnut one looks to have more of a satin finish and the one I received definitely has a gloss finish (very disappointed) about that. ;(

Comments about Rogue Starter Acoustic Guitar:

Sounds terribly flat. Intonation off by at least a half step across all 6 strings. Tuners slip constantly as I try to tune the guitar. I have a new set of Martin strings that I am going to put on there. We got this for our 5 year old granddaughter to start learning on. We bought it because it was pink and had such good reviews. Makes me wonder if we are talking about the same guitar. Hopefully a new set of strings will make a difference and I can update this review, but realistically, it's not going to fix the tuners, and I doubt it will fix the intonation. That being said, no matter how bad the construction of a guitar, it should never sound this bad, so I am hoping new strings will make it sound decent, even if I do have to retune the guitar often.

I purchased this for my grandson for Christmas. When I took it out of the box I wasn't exactly sure what I would find. Surprisingly, I was rather pleased. It has a nice sound and looks pretty good. In spite of the fact that the action is a bit high it plays well. The construction is decent too. It will make a good starter guitar to see if he will stay with it. The only reason that I rated it a 3 is because the finish has a lot of swirls and streaks in it. I hope these will buff out. Keep in mind that it is a low priced guitar and you shouldn't expect it to look like a $2000.00 Martin.
