OVERVIEW

Epic 8-string low end with string-thru sustain and active electronics.

Schecter is breaking new musical ground with their Slim Line Series of electric guitars. Designed with an ultra-thin, lighting fast neck and a sleek contoured body, the Blackjack SLS C-8 EX Active is armed with a pair of active Seymour Duncan Blackout pickups, a Hipshot Custom-8 string-thru body bridge, and Schecter locking tuners. Elegant design appointments include a "Hell's Gate Skull" inlay on its ebony fretboard, and the entire guitar is adorned with black chrome hardware.

3-Piece Maple neck w/Carbon Fiber reinforcement rods
Made with 3 pieces of maple for extra stability. Where standard necks may show aging defects from temperature and moisture changes throughout the years, this 3-piece neck will stay nice and straight for a lifetime of playability. Two carbon fiber rods are installed next to the truss rod for extra stability. Stronger than an equivalent volume of steel, carbon fiber adds little weight, but significant stiffness.

Satin finish and Ultra-Thin profile
The SLS collection features a satin finish neck for lightning fast playing above and below the 12th fret, an ultra-thin neck profile (19mm at 1st fret/ 20mm at 12th fret), and a new Ultra Access neck joint shape for easier access to the last frets.

Ebony fretboard
Ebony has a snappy, crisp attack with the density of maple, but with more brittle grains, oilier pores, and a stronger fundamental tone than maple. It has a tremendous amount of percussive overtones in the pick attack, that mute out shortly thereafter to foster great, long sustain.

Seymour Duncan Blackout 8-string AHB-1 active pickups
9-Volt active pickups like its predecessors, the 6-string and 7-string versions of the Blackouts, but built to direct retrofit nearly all 8-string electric guitars. Perfect for old school metal and new school screamers, especially dark pounding metal that incorporates extreme lows. Balanced inputs with a differential preamp for reduced noise. Ceramic magnets and calibrated wind for both neck and bridge versions provide for greater dynamic range and allow for specific character in each register.

Schecter locking tuning machines
These tuners feature a locking screw pin to lock the string into place for greater tuning stability. Details include a 19:1 gear ratio allowing for precise fine tuning adjustments, removable knobs, threaded peghead bushing, and a 10mm diameter peg hole.

Hell's Gate Skull inlay
The Mother of Pearl 'Hell's Gate Skull' inlay compliments the beautiful ebony fretboard. The thin white binding strip adds a nice highlight.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Blackjack SLS C-8 EX Active Electric Guitar:

Similar quality to the ATX line. Cosmetics are very sick. Electronics are great, etc.

NOW, be prepared for Ernie Ball and D'Addario's 8-string sets not to work on the lowest string (F# for me). Their taper on the 0.074 ends up on the nut and makes it unusable.

Get past the string issue and you have a winner.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Blackjack SLS C-8 EX Active Electric Guitar:

Played this in [@]. Blown away by the craftsmanship, quality and tone of this guitar. For the craftsmanship of the instrument, it's not as heavy as it looks. Tone is crisp and clean for both clean and distorted channels. What made me the happiest was that intonation was perfect on the 24th frets across each string (checked against tuner) in comparison to other guitars. If you ever have the chance to play this, do it because you will NOT be disappointed.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Blackjack SLS C-8 EX Active Electric Guitar:

I have an older model of this from 2013 or so, and it's a fantastic guitar. I'm really glad they brought back the skull inlay and would truly enjoy it on a 9-string in this series. SD Blackouts sound great (mine came with emg 808's) but I have upgraded the bridge to an emg 808x which sounds so incredibly clean with the setup.

Check out Kalium strings if you want to snag a set of personalized gauges. My F# is as thick as most low E's on a bass, if not thicker.

My favorite part about this guitar - the neck. Coming in at a close second is just how long it stays in tune for despite not having a locking nut.

If you have the $$ and are in the market for an 8-string, I can't recommend this enough.
