      Schecter Guitar Research

A mahogany body with active EMG pickups and a reinforced, ultra-access neck.

The Schecter Damien Platinum 8-String Electric Guitar has a double-cutaway mahogany body, set 3-pc maple neck w/carbon fiber reinforcement rods, and a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard. It's loaded with powerful EMG-808 active humbuckers that are designed especially for 8-string guitars for all the heavy rock tones you need. Grover tuning machines with a TonePros tune-o-matic bridge provide tuning stability and tonal sustain. The electric guitar's appointments include bat inlays, multi-ply fretboard and body binding, and satin chrome hardware.

      Grover tuners
ROTOMATICS® WITH 18:1 GEAR RATIO (102-18 SERIES) The original Rotomatic® with an improved higher ratio gearing. The 18:1 ratio provides for finer tuning and greater stability. The finer gears provide smoother tuning and a higher degree of backlash elimination

      Rosewood fingerboard
The most common fretboard, Rosewood is naturally oily, and works well for any surface that sees frequent human contact. The sound is richer in fundamental than Maple because the stray overtones are absorbed into the oily pores.

      EMG Active 808 pickups
The 707 has been leading the pack of 7-string guitar pickups since its debut in 2001, and is now available for the 8-String! Before this model was introduced, existing 8-string pickups sounded muddy and dull on the low F# string, especially when trying to hit artificial and natural harmonics, but the 808 eliminates all those problems. Featuring Alnico V loaded wide aperture coils we were able to beef up that Low F# tone and at the same time provide a more responsive super tight overall sound.

3-pc Maple neck w/carbon fiber reinforcement rods
Made with 3 pieces of maple for extra stability. Where standard necks may show aging defects from temperature and moisture changes throughout the years, the 3 piece neck will stay nice and straight for a lifetime of playability. Two Carbon Fiber Rods are installed next to the Truss Rod for extra stability. Stronger than an equivalent volume of steel, Carbon Fiber adds little weight, but adds significant stiffness.

      Case sold separately.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Damien Platinum 8-String Electric Guitar:

This is my main 8 string. I've played many others, but there's just something about this guitar that clicks with me. Super fast neck and a strong finish that won't get messed up anytime soon but is thin enough to let the wood breathe. The guitar has a good balance of upper-midrange and the EMG's are clear and provide plenty of output. The frets and neck are nice and big and are spaced very comfortably for my large hands.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Damien Platinum 8-String Electric Guitar:

Right off the bat the guitar felt great, the only thing that threw me off was the funky Ernie Ball 8-string set. It's still very playable out of the box. The EMG 808's sound great and provide a ton of clarity along with the 28" scale. I play in EBEADGBE and I haven't experienced any muddyness, even through a Line 6 15w Spider III. The frets are a bit big, so if you have small hands I would recommend you try an 8-string beforehand. The neck is thin and not baseball-bat-like as most people tend to associate with Schecters. I also own a Hellraiser C-7 and the necks are very similar. The "platinum" hardware kinda looks like plastic in the stock pictures, but I assure you, everything looks and feels solid in person. The toggle switch did happen to break and I had to have it replaced.

It plays, sounds, and feels amazing. Went strait from a 6 string to this and it really wasn't that hard of a transistion. Great guitar!
