Schecter Guitar Research

A fuller sound with rich harmonics.

The Schecter Omen-8 8-String Electric Guitar offers an unbelievable range of notes for the guitarist. Tuned to the pitches of F#/B/E/A/D/G/B/E the Omen will allow you to add a whole new dimension to your playing. The basswood body with 6-bolt neck joint provides a solid platform while the rosewood fretboard with 24 extra jumbo frets and the CTM-8 bridge promote sure-fingered playing comfort and super resonance. Schecter Diamond Plus pickups with overwound coils and a ceramic magnet produce an aggressive high output to push your amp over the edge. Made for crunchy rhythms and blistering leads. Perfect for drop tunings.

Tuners
These high quality tuners feature a classic design in a lubricated and sealed housing to protect gears for a lifetime of maintenance free playability. Details include a 15:1 gear ratio for smooth and precise tuning, removable knobs, threaded hex peghead bushing, and a 10mm diameter peg hole.

Rosewood Fingerboard
Rosewood is naturally oily, and works well for any surface that sees frequent human contact. The sound is richer in fundamental than Maple because the stray overtones are absorbed into the oily pores.

Diamond Plus Pickups
Diamond Plus Over wound coils with a Ceramic Magnet give this aggressive high output pickup the push that will send your Amp over the edge. Made for crunchy rhythms and blistering leads. Perfect for drop tunings. This pickup will cut through the mix with ease. Rockin' Single coil tone when Push-Pull knob is pulled up.

Really good deal!

Features:

The features on the guitar consist of a volume and tone knob and a 3-setting switch. The Schecter stock pickups are very nice and the intonation is phenomenal.

Quality:

The guitar is rough, though when I got it there was some slight damage to the headstock. Either way, the instument's physical quality is good. On the account of the mechanical qualities, the instrument holds a good tone and the pickups complement the guitar's craft very well.

Value:
Overall:

An amazing deal for a starting or even weathered 8-string player. I'd recommend this guitar to anyone looking to djent or sink their feet into a nice extended range.

Schecter Omen 8 Guitar

Features:

What more can you ask for...two pickups, 3-way toggle, volume & tone!  This is the first time I've felt compelled to review an item.  It just arrived today from MF and this guitar is kickin' hard.  the serial number says it's a new 2011 model, but has the nice cross position markers shown on the 2012 model.  I'd read reviews complaining about the large heal and it appears Schecter has improved that with this model...the heal has been angled about a 1/2" which definitely improves access...I had no problem fretting, but I'm not a shredder!  The neck is surprisingly thin and has a nice satin finish. The MF pickup description says it has push-pull to tap the pickups...that's an error on their part...it doesn't.  I really like the pickups!  They have a a good clean sound and a nice dirty bite that reminds me of overwound Dimarzio and SDs I've had.  Some compression and tweeking the EQ made it sound really sweet.  I don't play metal...just a little overdrive, compressor & chorus.  I have an 80s Marshall JMP MKII & a Sovtek Mig50...love da tubes.  Use 4x10 and a 2x12 cabs - Celestions.  Never played a 7 or 8 string and was looking forward to an exploration...already wrote a folk-djentish tune hahaha.  The strings are nice enough with the standard F# tuning...I opted for Tosin's E on the 8th string and its pretty floppy...might have to get a bass string later on.

Quality:

I'm stunned at the overall quality of this rather inexpensive guitar!  Frets, finish...really everything on the guitar is perfect.  I got the Satin Walnut Stain and it's beautiful.   The smoke tinted chrome hardware goes great with the walnut.  Just noticed a black satin binding around the top of the guitar...a real subtle detail.  Setup and intonation out of the box is good...I'll lower the strings a bit once I get the heavier 8th string. Even with new strings its staying tuned.  This one is made in Indonesia...excellent workmanship!  I want to mention the pickups again because in reading reviews I just assumed I'd end up replaing them.  Maybe the new 8-string Alumitones, but I'm really liking the sound of these pickups.  If I actually develop some proficiency on this guitar beyond bangin out my folk/punky djentish stuff...well, I bet this guitar would really sparkle with alumitones.

Value:

I went to a couple stores and played much higher end 8 strings (Schecter & Ibanez)...the set necks were very nice and the active pickups clearly sounded better.  They cost 3-4 times as much and I'm sure worth the extra, to a serious player of the 8-string.  Honestly, I didn't feel the difference was that much for my purposes and am delighted to have scored with this insturment...value well beyond the entry level pricing.  I might have to learn to read music with this thing!

Overall:

Absolutely no regrets on the purchase even though I hadn't even played one before.  Serious players and 8-string pros are surely gonna test their instruments before buying and probably have more demanding and discriminating tastes.  If you're a newbie to 8s like myself, but holding out because of the cost...this is a low risk adventure.

Features:

theres not much to the guitar as far as features go, tone knob, volume knob, schecter diamond pickups. (sound amazing)

Quality:

the guitar in my opinion is very well made especially for the price of it. clean channel sounds crystal and the distorted channel can crank out the djent if you wanted to.

Value:

this guitar is a steal for the price

Overall:

this is a great guitar for if you want to get into the extended range style guitars. low price, amazing sound, what more can you ask for. the pickup are schecters diamond pickups which arent really bad at all and the overall feel of the guitar is just wonderful. i would deffinately buy another if anything ever happend to mine.

An obscenely great value!

Features:

I give this a 6 because the features are pretty standard. The pickups are kind of mid-range heavy so I plan on replacing them but to be honest they are quite good. The Black Tusq nut was a nice feature. The tuning pegs are sufficient and not cheap like you might expect. I did have to dremmel out the 8th string peg to put in a .80 guage but that was very simple.

Quality:

This is where the Omen-8 shines. I have several other higher end Schecters and being this was my first foray into the "bottom end" of the Schecter's spectrum of offerings I must say Im blown away.

There are no raised frets, no jagged fret edges up the sides of the fret board, intonation was spot on, controls were clean, smooth, and quiet and there was not a dimple or ding on the body or fret board

The neck is very very slim..almost Ibanez slim and flatter than my Loomis model! After a slight adjustment  of the saddles and the truss it plays better than ALL my other guitars!! No joke.

Value:

I got a fluke deal on this guitar but even if I had to pay full price, knowing what I know now, I wouldnt even hesitate. If you are even on the fence about an 8 string start with the Omen-8. Its inexpensive but not cheap! Bravo Schecter!

Overall:

In summary. One of the best guitar purchases Ive made.
