I've wanted a Shecter for about 4 or 5 years now, but never wanted to shell out all that cash. When I saw the SGR C-1 was selling for $180, I did a little bit of research, got my tax refunds, and bought it. I've had it for about two and a half weeks now, but I've only played it 3 or 4 times, due to a crazy work schedule and only being home on the weekends. But so far I've loved it. It packs some pretty rich tone, especially for the price. The Shecter Diamond Plus pickups sound great, and it's cool to have a guitar that uses it's own company's hardware, instead of a Gibson, or something like that that has a certain brand of tuners, a different brand of pickups, and maybe some other brands too. The tone is great for my style of playing, and there's a good bit of range to work with if I want to venture into some different styles. It seems to be staying in tune well, and I'm glad to have Shecter tuners instead of some Klusons or something like that. The sustain is fairly good. Nothing to hyperventilate about, but certainly better than a Stratocaster. The looks aren't killer, since it's a fairly simple-looking guitar, but I think it looks good; I got the gloss black finish. That's one reason you're saving so much on this guitar as opposed to a Shecter: many Shecters have really nice finishes that add a good bit to the price tag. With these simpler finishes, you save a lot of money. You may sacrifice some on the cosmetics, but you'll still have the same level of performance for a lower price.

I'm no professional musician, but I do hold my equipment to a very high standard of performance, tone, and quality. You have to be careful buying lower-priced guitars, but so far I can say that I'm very satisfied with the SGR C-1. It looks pretty good, and sounds even better. If this is a fair representation of Shecter guitars, I'm very anxious to get one of their higher-level guitars in the future. I would recommend this to anyone who plays my kind of music and doesn't have a very spacious budget, but still wants quality equipment.

First one had a crack in the neck pocket. A broken ground wire. The two shorter neck screws were cut off with nippers rather than using shorter screws, big no-no! This one was setup and played very well though.

The replacement sent to me has a blemish/chip in the face near the string through area. The nut was cut very badly (not at all on the G string & way too high on the others) and the action has to be pretty high to avoid fret buzz. This one needs work to get it playing right.

The "SGR" pickups on these say Belcat on the back. They are pretty sterile, dull sounding pups, but for this price, good enough. Details and photos of mine can be seen here: http://www.agileguitarforum.com/showthread.php?tid=26846

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research SGR C-1 Electric Guitar:

Decided to get back in to playing guitar after a number of years of watching my old guitars gather dust. I decided that before I would spend serious money fixing my classic 1969 Gibson SG I would get a 'beater' guitar and make sure I would stay with it before repairing.

Well the price was right so I bought this guitar, and was having a lot of fun UNTIL the pickups stopped working for no apparent reason after a little over three months.

I am pretty confident the warranty would cover whatever the problem is, but it seems silly to spend half the cost of the guitar on shipping it back to the factory for warranty repair.

I'm NOT angry - there's not too much money here, but I am seriously disappointed with the quality control. I have seen guitars easily survive a LOT more abuse than I gave this one. ;>(

I guess I'll go with a used guitar of better quality as a replacement. No names being mentioned but I'm anxiously waiting for the arrival of my new-used guitar.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research SGR C-1 Electric Guitar:

I was leery of low price guitars after I had to send back an affinity Squier due to its narrow neck so so quality and my big paws-lol- and Ive seen a lot of other dissapointing low quality overseas stuff, but after reading the great reviews and seeing the irresistable sale price I gave the Scheckter a long hard look and finally settled on the red SGR C1, and I tell ya I cant remember the last time I was so pleased with something I bought. The first surprise after the fast and free shipping -> the guitar was extremely well packed (3 boxes!!), much better than my previous Affinity Squier) and when I got it unpacked, it was in perfect condition. Then my next surprise, the guitar was undamaged and then to my total amazement, just like the Schecter Y.T. factory tour video promises - a high level of close inspection and setup before being shipped-- the setup on this guitar was near perfect - just a very minor tuning and it was ready to play-! I LOVE this guitar, it was an amazing value, quality control is the best ive seen on ANY entry level import, a least the QC was great on my example - I looked under the pot cover and the solder job was first rate with decent quality pots and wire, black chrome (metal) tone/volume knobs with allen set screws, everything worked right and no surprises - the pickups were much better than I expected -- then I thought I found the weak spot when a couple of the tuner keys felt odd, but the little screws on the keys just needed a little snugging with the included allen wrench and that took care of it and they all worked fine -- then there is the sound, even with its factory strings, the rediculously long sustain on this guitar is unbelievable-!! had to check and make sure it wasn't my amp settings-! You could almost strum this thing and come back next week and still hear it humming--lol - Im told its due to the string-through-body design - whatever the reason this Schecter resonates like a tuning fork, sound seems to go on forever- the sign of good musical and build qualities in any instrument. I cant imagine what the expensive ones must be like-!! I LOVE THIS GUITAR-! BUY ONE BEFORE THE SALE ENDS-!!

I was a bit worried when I opened the box, because the gig bag was very dusty. To my relief, guitar is in excellent shape and played rather well right out of the box. It also looks amazing (we got the red version.) There are probably things that could be tweaked, but it is a Christmas present and I did not want to mess with the guitar too much while hiding in the closet :)

Guitar shipped in 2 days. Very suprised to see a dent in carton, but condition of guitar was perfect. Packed in 2 boxes and covered in gig bag.
Plugged it in right away and WOW what a great guitar. Action was low and sounded great. I am a acoustic player, but wanted a electric to play some of the time. Thought I would buy this guitar just to hang on the wall in my Man Cave, but I will be jamming with it. What a great buy.

This was a level 2 restock, so i did not expect perfection. There were a couple places where I could see primer through the paint.I shimmed the neck to get rid of buzz at bottom of neck. It was the last white model left and was priced to sell.I like the 24 fret board. The sound is good, even with the shim. Over all I am pleased with the guitar and musicians Friend.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research SGR C-1 Electric Guitar:

After I bought one an SGR C-1 restock, I was so pleased, I decided to buy another for alternate tunings. I got one in midnight satin black, and I had the warehouse confirm it was the right color and that there were no significant problems. They were very helpful. The only thing wrong with the restock was a very small chip in the back of it.

-I find the tuning gears to be pretty smooth. The guitar stays in tune all right.
-I'm pretty pleased with the pickups. They sound great for both clean sounds and distortion, including heavy distortion. I thought about replacing them with some EMGs, but I like these enough that I will keep them for a while. The sustain on this guitar is also pretty good.
-The play-ability is really nice. I neck is a medium thickness, and the action is low.
-The look, including the finish is beautiful.

I've played many inexpensive guitars and a few mid-level ones, and this is one of my favorites out of all of them. I'd highly recommend it for anyone on a budget.

I purchased this guitar mostly for the purpose of customization. It has decent starting quality and is priced well. I got the restock version, which was even less and the only thing wrong with the guitar is a slight blemish in the finish near the switch. It has the basic look of the C1 Hellraiser without the bells and whistles(extra inlays and EMG active pickups. All in all a great value.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research SGR C-1 Electric Guitar:

This is an excellent low-priced guitar. It's well-made. It feels pretty good to play. The pickups sound decent, not bad for a "beginner" guitar if you want to call it that. The strings that came with it are twangy, so just replace them right away (no big deal).

However, I felt I needed to write a review to point out a problem with the restock. - I ordered a C-1 with the Gloss Black finish, but I got a purplish-midnight blue guitar. On the box was a piece of tape that said "2nd wrong color." Apparently, no one is trying to fix this problem, as I'm the third person they've sold this to as a gloss black guitar. For the lower price, I'm just going to keep the guitar; it's a lot of fun to play, but I'm going to contact customer service about this, and hopefully the recurring problem will be fixed.

I just felt I should point this out to my fellow customers. It's a good guitar, though, and I recommend it.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research SGR C-1 Electric Guitar:

If you're looking for the best guitar you can possibly get with a small budget, I highly recommend this guitar, and I cannot believe it doesn't cost more.

I've bought three of these so far - and I can afford far more expensive guitars. (The reason I've bought three is that I love them so much, I give them away to people who need a good guitar, but can't afford one yet.)

White is no longer available, and the Midnight Satin Black is a poor description, in my opinion. It's a dull looking matte. I bought that one to replace the Gloss Black I gave away.

The first one I got was great. As soon as I tuned, it sounded perfect. The second two needed adjustments. It was impossible to tune the strings that they shipped with, so I just replaced the strings with some Dean Markleys and was back in business.

Changing strings couldn't be easier. No fussing around with trying to get the old string out or new string in like on some guitars.

I think I'll buy one more just to have a Gloss Black again.

I told a friend of mine to buy this since he needed an electric. He didn't want to because the price was way too low and he firmly believes that to get quality, you have to spend a lot. But he did want to borrow it frequently while he saved up for a Les Paul.

He finally got his Les Paul. When we played together, he was sorely disappointed that my Schecter sounded better. LOL
