Ok. I have thought long and hard about what to write in my review of the schecter custom solo 6. I must have a lemon. I read all 15 reviews and I didnt hear anything about what I'm going to say. This guitar was supposed to have sustain, mine doesnt. Mine has 0. I've got more sustain out of a telecaster than I can get out of this guitar. The note will carry for just a moment then literally dies. The pickups are extremely unbalanced. The bridge pickup is loud, but for some reason it only wants to pick up the bottom end of the guitar. The lower strings come through, the higher strings get lost in the sound, it is like there is no mid range. To me the guitar has no feel. There is no real sound to it. The bridge pickup is dominant over the others, when I toggle to both pickups at once, there is no difference in sound, when switching to the neck pick up there is a 50% decrease in sound. So if I switch pickups during a song the amp sounds terrible. It sounds like I setup the bass middle and trebble and volume incorrectly. One pickup is considered hot, the other pickup is considered moderate output. Hot doesn't necessarily mean good sound, it means loud. If the guitar sounds bad, then it will sound bad loudly. The neck pickup has poor output. The sound is muddy, oppressive, toneless. When playing a bar chord, the notes fight each other, there is no even presence in the chord. I talked to a tech and he said it sounds like the guitar has faulty pickups or was poorly wired, whatever the case I'm not paying to have it fixed. I'm not cheap, I just dont want to be stuck with a problematic guitar. I guess if i gutted the guitar, replaced the pickups and had it completely rewired it would be a decent guitar. When I solo it sounds flat, it sounds weak. When I play the introduction solo on fade to black it sounds horrible, thats the only way I know to explain it.

For these reasons, I am calling this a lemon. To me it feels like a broken toy.
I like the weight of the guitar, the choice of wood is nice. The solid feel of the neck is nice too. What I dont like are the pickups, the wiring is bad. The finish on the guitar is hard to slide back and forth on. The tuning keys are locking, but not the best in the world.
The body and the neck are the best thing about this guitar. it has a dense feel to it which is good. the neck is very solid and tunes well, rarely will the guitar go out of tune if you are using new strings.
For me, after I pay to have all the flaws fixed there is no value in the guitar.

Schecter Solo 6 Custom - Potential for Greatness

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Solo-6 Custom Electric Guitar:

Overall I am very happy with the guitar. I am getting over the low frets, enjoying the great neck and very ergonomic body shape as well as the beautiful sounds.
To quickly recap the features: Locking Tone Pro bridge, Seymour Duncan SH11 and SH2 pickups, no name locking tuners, ebony fretboard, coil-split for both pickups. Overall these are good features the bridge is very nice and solid.

The locking tuners are not that great; while they turn smoothly and the locking mechanism is the same as a Sperzel tuner these tuners kill strings.I use Sperzel and Schaller locking on my strats and never had this problem so assuming it's the tuners.

The pickups are very nice, though I decided to replace the SH11 with a Pearly Gates for a little more mids and better dynamics. For Rectifier low tuning, lots of distortion the SH11 are great but for warm fat Blues tones I preferred the PGs.

Lastly, my biggest gripe are the frets. While the fretjob is one of the best I have seen on any guitar up to 5k and 6k Gibsons, PRS etc. I am at a loss why Schecter decided to go from Jumbo frets in the pre 2010 Solos to the traditional medium frets which are even lower than Fender vintage frets and give you an almost fretless playing experience. It works fine for very low action and fast playing, but bendings and sustain are clearly negatively affected by such low frets. Anyway, everyone has their preferences

Overall a great guitar with near pro-like features.
Overall the guitar is beautiful, finish, workmanship, fretjob are outstanding. I tested a bunch of guitars ESP, LTD, Epis etc. before I chose this one and it feels and plays great with very long sustain (even without an amp) and a rich tone. Other than the tuners the quality is outstanding.
If you plan on keeping the guitar the value is great. hands down one of the best deals in this price range. If yo uwnat to sell it the resell value is not very high. Something to consider.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Solo-6 Custom Electric Guitar:

I've played many guitars before, but NOTHING plays like a Schecter does. ESP and Jackson are real good brands, but I beleive that Schecter guitars are by far the best for metal music. I saved up the money to get this solo 6, and It is worth every penny and more. The seymour duncan pickups at the bridge and neck are amazing and have great tone. It is great for soloing! and It's also great for playing rhythm. Over all, this guitar is GREAT for the price!!

    Great Electric Guitar

    By wdcodi

    from Ohio

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Solo-6 Custom Electric Guitar:

Good: Sustain and tone is wonderful, best I have ever played. Ebony fretboard which is hard to find at this price point. Tapped pickups (pull out one of the knobs) for various tones. Guitar is already setup so you don?t have to pay the cash afterwards. Neck action and shape is great for all styles of playing, even shredding. Locking tuners; it does keep it in tune longer. Great workmanship.Bad: Tailpiece mount is not standard. Wanted to put a Gibson TP-6 (fine tuners) tailpiece on it but it wouldn?t fit.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Solo-6 Custom Electric Guitar:

Blah Blah Blah... I'm going to echo the same thing every one has said about this guitar. Outstanding quality (Korean made). Stays in tune really well, set up perfect out of the box. 1st one had a small cosmetic flaw, I had a replacement in my hands in a week. (good job MF). Tone is killer. 3 way switch plus push pull tone knob gives you 6 different pickup setups. Go country, blues, jazz-- then switch to the bridge humbucker and let it fly. Buy this guitar. As good or better quality as my american strat, I can't find a single bad thing to say about this guitar. For the $ you will not find better

Convinced. Love at first sight and sound.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Solo-6 Custom Electric Guitar:

Went in and tried this baby at a Guitar store. Boy was I blown away. I tried it out through a little practice amp, and it still sounded as slick as a green Skittle. The coil tap is a lovely feature and sounds great, nice and clean - perfect for someone who likes to experiment or play all different styles of music. The neck is great and "Les Paul-like," it feels like you have so much control. Tone is literally whatever you want it to be. I'm blown away by this guitar.Go try this guitar, you'll understand. In fact, don't. Just buy it, believe me. It's worth the risk, with interest.

I love the way I play...

    By Roomfor1

    from Boston, MA

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Solo-6 Custom Electric Guitar:

..And I have this guitar to thank for the revelation. Everyone comments on how beautiful it is (vintage sunburst), and it's become the center-piece of an already handsome room. It's solid, has that "well-built" feel, and the sound is no exception: full and true, with tone like roaring fire. I've basically blacksmith'd on the strings (hammering and bending) for hours and it kept tune perfectly. Best few-hundred I've ever spent. MF got it to me on time (despite Boston snow delays!), in perfect shape: all promises kept. I even got it used (condition 1), and as described, it was flawless. Worth saving the extra hundred (which I used to buy a case, sadly not-included). A fine instrument for a surprising price. Everything you'd want in true love.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Solo-6 Custom Electric Guitar:

Believe all the reviews! This guitar is perfect. Feels solid as a rock in your hands. Set-up flawlesssly from the factory (Korea) Action is low, neck is fast, tone is killer. 3 way toggle, and one of the knobs pulls out to split the pickups to single coil. For the price of this guitar I am amazed at the quality. Puts new Les Pauls to shame. Buy it. Its looks even better in person. Schecter is on the top of my list now.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Solo-6 Custom Electric Guitar:

This guitar is AMAZING!!!! I went to a local music store to try this guitar out and i was blown away. The pickups are good and all the hardware is nice. One of the knobs pulls out turning the humbuckers into single coils which sound nice. But the best thing to me about this guitar is the neck. its really fast and the action is really nice and low and the fretboard has a nice feel. Buy it before Schecter realizes that it should priced alot higher.
