Beautiful solid wood construction and warm, rich tone at an affordable price.

The Seagull Maritime SWS Folk acoustic guitar is made with a solid mahogany body. The guitar's mahogany body produces a strong sound with an emphasis on a mellow, round midrange. The Maritime SWS Folk also features a solid spruce top, integrated set mahogany neck, chrome hardware, and an Indian rosewood bridge and fretboard. The guitar's high-gloss finish provides excellent protection but at the same time is extremely light and elastic. This is a crucial point in both the sound of the Maritime SWS guitar and its ability to age-a thick finish muffles a guitar's vibration and blocks aging.

Seagull Martime SWS Review

By Frederick Hewett

from Raleigh

Comments about Seagull Maritime SWS Folk High Gloss Acoustic Guitar:

This was my first "real" guitar that I bought. I got is used. It was suggested that I get this one as it was a good deal for the money on a solid wood guitar. It sounded great so I bought it. Little did I know what a jewel I had. After playing for two years I decided that I needed a "nicer" acoustic so I bought a Martin HD 28. Now don't get me wrong - my Martin is just so perfectly hand crafted and sounds amazing and nothing compares to it when you are playing live with other musicians and you want your sound to come through. However I find that the pure balanced sound that comes from my seagull is just as good. It is 1/3 the price and I play it just as much for performances as I do my Martin.

There is simply not a better guitar for the money. I would buy it again and again.

Good Value

Comments about Seagull Maritime SWS Folk High Gloss Acoustic Guitar:

This is a good guitar for the money. I call it my favorite second guitar. I wouldn't have it as my only guitar as when strumming for chords and singing along the sound is a little thin compared to a full sized guitar.

For a comfortable and versatile couch guitar it is just right. I don't think it competes with higher priced guitars over $2k; if you're GAS'ing for a Martin 000-18 and buy this one to quench the thirst and save some cash, there's a good chance you'll still be GAS'ing for the Martin sooner or later.

But, if you're looking for a second guitar and are trying to decide if, say, a Taylor GC3 is worth the price and you buy this one instead, chances are you'll be happy with your purchase.

The neck is wide like the standard Seagull neck but is very playable. I think the guitar is best for finger picking as it has a very well balanced tone when it's not played to hard. Light strumming is fine as well, as is light flat picking, but strum or pick too hard and the sound comes apart.

Mine had a blemish that wasn't noticed by the dealer or the factory (the factory inspection card came with the guitar). It's not a big blemish but once you notice it, especially on a new guitar, it does take some wind out of your sails. The dealer was good and gave me a $50 store credit but I don't have any experience with Seagull customer service as we never took the issue that far.

Overall I would buy this guitar again if the need arose.
Plain appointments; plastic binding; tusq nut and saddle; nice finish
No setup issues; plays well; tuners are mediocre
Hard to find a comparably spec'd guitar for the price

Seagull Maritime SWS FolK HG is a Winner

Comments about Seagull Maritime SWS Folk High Gloss Acoustic Guitar:

I spent a lot of time playing , researching and comparing before I decided to buy the Seagull SWS Folk HG (High Gloss). I used Martin as a benchmark of comparison for much of my comparisons and at a fraction of the cost the Seagull either held it's own or exceeded in feel, tone, projection, construction and overall quality and set-up. The string spacing on the Seagull makes it easier f(for me) for both Finger-style and chording. Martin typically uses a 1 3/4 (1.75") nut width, where Seagull uses a 1.80 Nut width in combination with it 24.84 scale. It's a small measurement that make a HUGE difference in playability. I opted for the TRIC case which still keeps the overall cost at about 1/3 of the Martin I compared to.I would buy this guitar again in a heartbeat knowing what I know after my all the time I took to compare.

Quality solid wood construction

Comments about Seagull Maritime SWS Folk High Gloss Acoustic Guitar:

This guitar has absolutely gorgeous bookmarking on the from and back with a high gloss finish that maintains luster. The neck is matte and fairly full, with wide spaced strings. Perfect for fingerstyle, and also easy for chording. The smaller "OM" size body is easy to hold and play with a little fuller body depth for projection. Perfect set-up and intonation. The sound is sweet with nice midrange, clear highs and very slightly reduced bass. It's not a dread, so you can overdrive the top if you bang it hard. After owning Ibanez and Guild dreads, plus a Taylor 814ce, I find this guitar fits me and my style perfectly at a great price.

Comments about Seagull Maritime SWS Folk High Gloss Acoustic Guitar:

Value exceeds the price to me.
My Seagull arrived today and I was impressed. Not my first or even my second guitar. Quality is fantastic on mine, low action right out of the box, not a single blemish, not even a single fret edge that needs to be filed. Their quality control is very impressive. I prefer finger-style and the 1.8 nut is perfect for me and the size is nice too. Would have rated a 10, but Seagull has I thing a better one, but do not wish to pay the higher price. Musician's Friend is always a pleasure to deal with. Last year I got a different brand with an unacceptable blemish on the top, and the made a quick exchange no problem at all.
Great quality

Comments about Seagull Maritime SWS Folk High Gloss Acoustic Guitar:

I purchased this guitar because I wanted a smaller body guitar with a wider fretboard at the nut that was better suited for fingerstyle playing. I spoke with a MF associate because I wanted to purchase an open box unit which was rated "mint". When my guitar arrived it was in perfect condition in every way just as promised. It plays great with a very good tone that is consistent with solid mahogany back and sides and a spruce top. The only adjustment that I will make is to lower the bridge piece slightly and adjust the truss rod a bit to suit my personal preferences. All in all a really good guitar!
