The Maritime SWS Rosewood SG Acoustic Guitar offers luxurious all solid tonewood construction with a select pressure-tested solid spruce top and solid rosewood back and sides. The Maritime SWS RW SG also boasts a semi-gloss custom polished finish with a beautiful satin sheen. The finish provides excellent protection and at the same time is extremely light and elastic. This is a crucial point in both the sound of the Maritime SWS guitar and its ability to age—a thick finish muffles a guitar's vibration and blocks aging.
Body style
Slightly smaller than a typical dreadnought guitar, the Maritime SWS Rosewood SG Acoustic Guitar is narrower in the upper bout. This shape discourages unwanted boominess in the sound and is one of the factors that results in Seagulls being such excellent recording guitars.
Select Pressure Tested Solid Tops
A guitar produces sound as a result of the vibration of its strings. What's not so obvious is the role that the guitar top plays in amplifying these vibrations. In fact, the vibration of the top is the most important factor in a guitar's sound. Solid top guitars offer richer sound and wider dynamic range (they play better at both soft and loud volume levels). The most interesting thing about a solid top guitar is that it will actually sound better over time.
All Seagull guitars are made with select pressure-tested solid tonewood tops. Each solid top is crafted from a single layer of spruce or cedar and is pressure-tested to ensure its highest level of rigidity and stiffness along with maximum harmonic vibration. The extraordinary wood used in Seagull guitars comes from trees that are hundreds of years old. The tight, straight grain in this wood produces a unique combination of strength and flexibility. The top is strong enough—in the direction of the grain—to withstand the pull of the strings, while at the same time it's flexible enough—across the grain—to vibrate freely.
The perfect neck angle
Neck angle has a tremendous effect on guitar tone. The Seagull re-design served as the impetus for several refinements to Godin's neck matching technology. Seagull guitar bodies and necks are now matched with incredible precision and the new compound curve in the top provides the additional stability necessary to achieve and maintain optimum neck pitch
The Tapered Headstock – Tuning Made Easy
Tuning can be a pain-in-the-neck (sorry). You may have wondered why it is that even after you have carefully tuned each string, it is often necessary to go back and make further adjustments on a few of the strings. This is because the guitar neck moves slightly as you change the tension of the strings. Therefore you don't just tune the strings, you balance the guitar's neck at the same time.
The tapered headstock on Seagull guitars provides straight string pull, minimizing the effect of neck twisting. This makes it much easier to get your guitar in tune and to keep it that way. The Seagull Maritime SWS guitar's tapered headstock is particularly advantageous for the growing ranks of players who use open tunings.

After weeks of research, I landed on this guitar. There is not a Seagull dealer in my neck of the woods so I bought it without having played it first. I could not be more pleased with the sound. It has good solid bass but it doesn't overpower the mids and highs. It is exactly what I wanted.
The action on the guitar, however, was so high out of the box that it was almost unplayable. Consulting the owner's manual, I read where one should not adjust a guitar unless one is a professional tech. This meant I had to get the guitar set up. I emailed Seagull informing them of the situation hoping to get some suggestion/explanation. The fact that they never replied tells me all I need to know about how they could deliver a product with such a bad setup.
Bottom line: by the time you pay to have the guitar set up and purchase a hard shell case, you're very near the same cost of a Martin Custom D. The Martin comes with a case and is playable out of the box. That stated, having owned both,I can honestly say that I would not trade this guitar for the Martin.

I know that you will be impressed by this guitar. It's got it all: tone...quality...price! It is an extremely light guitar which is another great feature. However, it might not be an ax that you want to take out on the road. It looks and feels delicate, but I can't confirm this observation. Instead, I would recommend a Gibson or Fender that are heavy and built like a tank. However, if you're not touring, this maybe the guitar for you. Impress yourself and your friends with a fantastic guitar by Seagull.
This acoustic features a solid-wood, rosewood body. However, the back of the guitar is two-piece and that is why I gave it a "9" instead of a "10". Other than that, the tone is excellent! It produces a rich, sweet sound. The notes are very distinctive and chording is a dream. The neck is fantastic too...easy to play and extremely comfortable. Seagull boasts that the body has been slightly redesigned in the upper bout. It is smaller, but it practically eliminates the "boxy" sound on other solid wood dreadnaughts. THIS IS A BIG IMPROVEMENT. Also, Seagull's headstock is tapered inward so it allows the strings a straighter alignment from the bridge. ANOTHER FEATURE OF ADVANCED DESIGN. Yes, the guitar does stay in tune better. Finally, the top is "white" which is not my favorite color, but it goes well with the dark, rosewood sides and back.
SEMI-GLOSS FINISH made me think twice before I ordered this guitar, but it does allow for more tone to get out. Because of this, I would recommend this guitar be played only indoors.
No problems here. I am impressed! It seems to be put together extremely well.
The value of this acoustic cannot be understated. I looked at quite a few guitars, but none were even close at this price with this quality. The solid-wood Martins are twice as much.
Most other guitars were laminates at this price range.
