OVERVIEW

A great-sounding mini jumbo at an affordable price.

The Seagull Performer Mini Jumbo QI Acoustic-Electric Guitar features a 3-layer hardwood laminated body and a solid spruce top for a superb blend of rich tones. The guitar also has an integrated set neck joint and, Indian rosewood fretboard and bridge, and a Quantum I pickup for a great plugged-in experience.

Compound Curve Top Design

The guitar top is the part of the instrument that most affects the sound. It is also the most delicate part of any high quality acoustic guitar. The grade and thickness of the wood used (solid spruce), as well as the bracing structure, have a huge impact on the instrument's sound. The idea of applying an arch or a curve to the top is appealing because the added strength of an arched top should allow for the use of a thinner and more lightly braced top. While this is true, there remains a trade-off in applying a curve to the entire top. The most active part of the top is the area centered on the bridge. Applying a curve to this part of the top restricts movement resulting in a loss of dynamic range. On the other hand, the area of the top above the sound hole moves minimally but is problematic because it tends to sink if the guitar dries out even slightly. This tendency is also encouraged by downward pressure from the fingerboard resting on top of it. The solution is a top that has a compound curve.

In the Seagull Performer's design, the top is arched slightly in the area above the sound hole and levels out in the area around the bridge. The compound curve top produces excellent stability in the upper part of the guitar top and the power and projection made possible by leaving the top flat below the sound hole flat. With the weak area above the sound hole stabilized, it is possible to make the rest of the top even more active with the bracing design that allows unprecedented control over the top vibration. The bracing for the Seagull Performer Cutaway QI Guitar is quarter-sawn spruce, scalloped and carved to conform exactly to the curvature of the tops. Includes gigbag.

Very Nice Guitar!!!

By Aaron-ZhtLx

Comments about Seagull Performer Cutaway Mini Jumbo Flame Maple QI Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I recently purchased the Performer Mini Jumbo and got the best deal ever at Musician's Friend! This guitar is an awesome value for the price. The finish is flawless and the wokmanship is, too. The piece of Indian rosewood that the fretboard is made of is just beautiful; rarely seen on guitars costing twice as much.I had to lower the action by adjusting the truss rodd and lowering (filing) the bridge a bit, but I do that with all my acoustics. I like low action. I guess my only issue might be that I wish it came with the Q2 electronics package as well. Don't get mewrong, the Q1 sounds great, but with this nice of a guitar, it would also be nice to have the mic of the Q2.That being said, I am very happy with this purchase and glsd to have a guitar that's made in North America as opposed to China or Indonesia.Seagull really sets the bar for price/quality.

Comments about Seagull Performer Cutaway Mini Jumbo Flame Maple QI Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

As we all know... maple has a bright sound so the idea of having a jumbo style that makes up for the bass made sense to me. I ordered it and low and behold! It worked! This guitar has a very unique sound unplugged and I am very happy with it. The strength of this instrument is in the model it is called. Performer! When the guitar is plugged in it stands out not only in sound but in looks as well. You can tell just by looking at it that it's a special guitar. Classy and sexy come to mind. Every girl and guy has noticed this guitar hanging on the wall and commented on it. Now get out there and start performing!!!

Comments about Seagull Performer Cutaway Mini Jumbo Flame Maple QI Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Bought a used Ibanez from a friend to make sure that I was going to stick with the guitar before I bought something nice. After I determined that guitar was the instrument for me, I purchased this guitar. Let me tell you, this guitar sounds great, and is great for any level of experience. It stays in tune very well, and is showing no signs of wear after a year of usage. I am still learning many of the basics, but listened to a very experienced (Gibson owning) buddy play it and was amazed. He said the nut width was a little wider than he was used to, but I really like the space it provides my clumsy fingers. After playing for a minute, he raved about the quality and playability ESPECIALLY for the price I paid. He went as far as saying it played on the same level as his Gibson. Buy this guitar and you will not regret it, guaranteed. Lastly, this thing looks amazing. I am not the type to really care about appearance, but it was icing on the cake for this instrument. The only thing I will say that could be considered a con is about the unique shape. This particular Mini Jumbo has made it tough to find a hard case. With that being said, my only real resource is the internet (I am stationed in Okinawa, Japan). Musicians Friend has many cases to choose from , but I am afraid to order a case over the internet that could be to big/small. Really no fault to the guitar, but something I thought people might want to know.

Comments about Seagull Performer Cutaway Mini Jumbo Flame Maple QI Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is guitar is a beautiful surprise. I really was impressed after tuning this guitar on receiving it. It sounds bright and clear and the set-up was excellent. This is way better than my first experience with Seagull. They have really improved product. I can't believe I could get this guitar from Canada instead of China for money value. Well done Seagull!!!! The only thing negative is finding a hard case to fit it seems unlikely. It does come with a nice gig-bag. I bought the Gator Jumbo case and this guitar swims in it. When my son is awake I will ask him to let me try his Takamine NEX case to see if this fits. I doubt it. One last thing this guitar doesn't have much bass like a Martin but I think it all depends what you music you play and if you are a picker you will love this guitar. If you are are strummer just turn the bass up on the amp. If you are strummer and unplugged just play the lower end more strongly to coax more volume on the bass end. Nuff said.

Comments about Seagull Performer Cutaway Mini Jumbo Flame Maple QI Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I purchased the Seagull Performer about a month ago. The action was higher than I like but everything else was excellent. I knew when I picked it up that it was a quality instrument. The sound unplugged is solid with great projection but amplified it is awesome. I didn't realize how beautiful it is in appearance until people approached me after the gig and asked where I got such a beautiful instrument. I am very happy with it.

Comments about Seagull Performer Cutaway Mini Jumbo Flame Maple QI Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I own a Seagull Maritime SWS, which is a dreadnought, and it sounds great. I wanted a second guitar, but one that sounded different. So I bought this Seagull Performer Cutaway Mini Jumbo, and could not be happier. It has a distinctly different sound from the dreadnought, even without using an amp. It's top quality, and when plugged into an amp Wow! I also like the neck being a little bit wider, as with the Maritime. They fit my larger hand size. I also took the time to watch a You Tube video on how Seagull guitars are made and was quite impressed. All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase, oh! and I almost forgot to mention a very good buying experiance from Musicians Friend. Great on-line rep. answered all my questions, and my guitar arrived on time and in excellent shape.

Comments about Seagull Performer Cutaway Mini Jumbo Flame Maple QI Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Went into my local guitar shop today looking for a takamine. However, they only had them in Twelve strings. The clerk asked me if I was looking at Guitars over $1000 and showed me the full sized Seagull with Q2. Although I loved the sound, I needed a guitar closer to dreadnought size. He gave me this one and instantly I knew i would buy it. Great value, better than all of the guitars he showed me above $1000.Couldn't be happier with the purchase :)

Comments about Seagull Performer Cutaway Mini Jumbo Flame Maple QI Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Been a vocalist & musician for 20+ years... owned many fine guitars - Martins, Taylors, Larrivees, Breedloves... Many years ago I owned a Seagull S6 which I recall had intonation problems which I later sold and steered clear of the Seagull brand. Several years ago I sold my 2012 Taylor 614ce because I didn't like the pickup system... everything else about the guitar was flawless. One of the things which plagues many acoustic players is their ability to sit right in the mix,.. and cut through the piano, bass, drums, etc.

I own a fair number of guitars,.. but was looking for another Maple Grand Auditorium or Orchestra cutaway... but not willing to spend $3k+ on a Taylor. I did my research, read a lot of reviews before taking a chance buying the Seagull Mini Jumbo Cutaway Maple... Here's my report from opening and playing it this a.m. unplugged and plugged in.

Appearance: 5/5 Immaculate,.. flamed maple back/sides & neck. Beautiful straight grain Sitka spruce on the the sound board.. very rich rosewood fingerboard and bridge. Beautiful headstock

Action: 5/5 Fantastic... some people have expressed concerns about the 1.8" nut,.. I have relatively small hands (not like Donald Trump though ;-)... and I can easily bar chord this down to the first fret.. and I like that I'm able to perform some sustain chords on the upper four strings that are significantly more difficult on a 1 11/16 nut. Also the action is fantastic all the way past the 12th fret for bar chords / arpeggios... it's extremely friendly for finger style, bends etc..

Sound: 5/5 This is especially where this guitar excels... I simply couldn't believe it when I started tuning it up... I am a tone snob,.. and this guitar nails the sound I was looking for... "horses for courses"... I was looking for very articulate sounds.. with few overtones... I can't begin to say how pleased I am with the sound. Plugged in, reproduction into my sound system is amazing.
