I was really impressed by this guitar. I really really was. I've been playing it for a few days now and it's my favorite guitar I think I've ever owned. It was also the very first telecaster that I've ever owned.
A lot of reviews said not to bother upgrading this thing but I don't really care. I'm going to upgrade this guitar until it is even better.
The frets don't NEED to be filed down. They are OK. They're not perfect but they are OK and for the price OK is good! It's not terribly expensive to finish setting up yourself or to have someone else do it for you if you're too lazy.
The tuners aren't locking tuners but they do stay in tune and if anything will help you learn to tune by ear.
The bridge pickup has such a nice spanky twangy telecaster tone. Sounds a bit weird with distortion from the amp though.
The neck pickup is what I ended up using more often than the bridge pickup. It sounds a bit "muffled" but that problem was fixed by taking off the casing. Nice looking casing.

The paint job is always said to be "cheap" and "poorly" done but I think it's great. Eventually it'll come completely off and you'll have yourself a nice looking worn down telecaster. If you're into that.
If not then yes, this is a poorly done paint job.

The guitar tuner is honestly probably one of the best things about this deal. This is one of the best guitar tuners I think I've ever used.
Nice.

The strap was cheap but what do you expect? It DOES work. Let me say again.
IT DOES WORK.
EVERYTHING IN THIS WORKS WELL ENOUGH FOR A NOVICE AND FOR AN EXPERIENCED PLAYER.

I would give this a solid 5/5.

I love this guitar.

First, the accessories: the amp, strap, cable, gig bag and tuner are fine for the price. Regarding the guitar, the alder sunburst body was very nice, but I was surprised that the body is thinner than your typical Telecaster, making it light ...so light that the neck weighs it down so it hangs at an odd angle. The neck itself is nicely finished with no protruding fret ends and an extremely thin layer of polyurethane; the tuners are typical Squier cast tuners that stay in tune well. When the guitar arrived the neck was so concave the action was way too high high ...I ended up giving the truss rod nut about a half a turn and that improved things dramatically. Why couldn't they do this at the factory? The pickups are typical Tele pickups, albeit low output ...the bridge sounds better than the neck ...the neck pickup sounds pretty bad through the included amp, but both pickups actually sound very good through a Fender Twin ...very punchy. The biggest issue I have with the guitar is that, especially when playing clean through the neck pickup, I'm getting static with each strum, even when I don't actually strum the guitar but just brush my hand past the strings. I searched around on the internet and found a lot of posts describing pickguard static, which apparently occurs when you strum an electric guitar and brush the pickguard with your fingers, which is what I do. Static electricity from my body transfers through my fingers to the pickguard and on to the guitar itself, where it's output by the pickups. I called Fender's customer support and the guy I spoke to knew exactly what I was talking about, and suggested rubbing Bounce sheets on the pickguard or taping the back of the pickguard with copper tape and grounding it. Why should I have to do this if this is a known issue? I'm pretty disappointed in Fender ...even though the guitar is inexpensive it shouldn't produce static when it could be easily prevented by shielding the pickguard. C'mon, Fender!

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Electric Guitar Pack with 15G Amplifier:

The Affinity Tele surprised me. It plays and sounds as good as my Squire Standard Telecaster.I like the full width nut, and the neck is very good. The 15G Amp has a nice clear tone, and is perfect for practice. The only thing I found is the tone control pot could be better, it works fine, just needs more range.
You can't go wrong with this package.

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Electric Guitar Pack with 15G Amplifier:

This is a different guitar from the regular, "stand alone" Affinity Telecaster.

Most sites, including Fender/Squier, give the wrong specs on this guitar. They usually give regular Affinity specs. (I see that MF has changed their description to a rather general one, which does not clearly indicate either.) This beauty is a string through, with 22 frets. It is from Indonesia, while the other one is (I think) Chinese.

Although there are minor cosmetic flaws, the overall craftsmanship here is excellent. Level, smooth-edged frets, which are reasonably "clean" and smooth on top, too. Plays pretty well right out of the box, but is an EXCELLENT platform for modifications/upgrades. The ceramic pickups aren't as bad as one might think, so there's no hurry to change them. (Which was my intention, but why bother when they sound this good?) Classic Tele tones, if a little high output. Be aware that Tele neck pickups are a little dark, warm, muddy.... whatever you want to call it. But that is the nature of all true Telecasters. And this baby is all "Telecaster". Heck, I bought mine even though I did not need the rest of the package.

The electronics/controls are the weak point. Cheap plastic knobs get all wonky the first time you remove and replace them. As another reviewer stated, the tone doesn't do a lot. In fact, mine went completely out twice. (I was already planning to upgrade the pots, so this was not a problem for me.)

The bottom line is: I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this guitar, but also recommend that you plan to immediately upgrade the potentiometers.

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Electric Guitar Pack with 15G Amplifier:

To put things in perspective, my last electric guitar was a Gibson SG, which I purchased new in the spring of 1963, and sold a year later, when I went to college. OK, so I made a stupid mistake, but I needed the money for college.

The affinity Tele is not a Gibson SG, BUT I have to say, I love this guitar and amp! It's perfect for a guy who wants a Tele for some country picking' and doesn't want to spend more than a grand to get started.

Fit and finish is excellent on the made-in-Indonesia affinity Telecaster included in the pack (It's not the made-in-China Affinity Tele you can purchase separately). The Tele included in the pack with the amp, has a string-through-body bridge, and a 22 fret neck.

The guitar is fun to play. The amp is more than adequate for a "practice" amp. Even the strap, gig bag, and picks included in the pack are more than adequate.

My only negative is the clip-on tuner included in the pack—it's worthless. It just isn't precise. But since it's virtually free… no harm, no foul! I ordered a Snark, and when it arrives, I plan to chuck the free Fender tuner.

This pack is a really great value. The guitar played great right out of the box. I should mention that on Day 2, I changed the strings that came on the guitar (Fender Nickel 9s) for Ernie Ball Slinky 10s. And that, as Robert Frost once said, has made all the difference.

The Indonesian-made guitar that comes as part of this pack is probably alone, worth the price for the whole package. If you're in the market for an Affinity Tele, and even if you don't need the amp, get this package… and sell the amp. You won't regret it.

            This is a winner!

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Electric Guitar Pack with 15G Amplifier:

What an excellent package. Everything about the Telecaster Affinity is top notch. I am a YouTube poster and use my Affinity Tele and 15W Frontman amp in many of my recordings. It compares to the Fender Telecasters out there in sound quality and playability;plus, if you didn't look closely you would not be able to tell the difference between the Squire and a true Tele. I'd play this baby out with pride.

The set up and electronics are very basic,
but servicable, especially if you need a compact

and your off to the races !

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Electric Guitar Pack with 15G Amplifier:

I checked "experienced" in my description even though I haven't picked up an electric in twenty years. I've been playing acoustic for thirty, however. Take that into account when evaluating this review.

Let me be clear: When I say I won't recommend this to a friend, I'm talking about the package, not the guitar. The guitar is very playable, the maple neck and fingerboard are nice, the thing stays in tune, and it has a nice sound...as long as you run it through an amp other than the tinny, noisy, harsh sounding Fender Frontman amp that comes with the pack. And BTW, forget about the "aux in" jack if you want to play along with your MP3 or CD player...it's pretty useless.

I wish I'd gone with an earlier impulse and gotten the Affinity Tele as a stand alone with an even slightly better quality amp. But it's not an incredibly expensive mistake, so live and learn.

As for Musician's Friend, I just want to say, I LOVE ordering through these guys. The package arrived a full five days before the "expected" delivery date. Maybe it's a case of the Commander Scott technique ("Ya nivver tell the captain how long the repairs will actually take, laddie"), but I was quite pleased.

So, recommend the guitar, recommend the dealer, but spring for the better amp.

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Electric Guitar Pack with 15G Amplifier:
