I wanted to buy a Telecaster for the longest time. Not only that, I wanted to make it my own and I was thinking of modding it. I'm not a person that likes to mess with guitars too much, especially if they're expensive, I like to keep them stock for as long as possible. Nevertheless, I wanted to venture on, and try to mod a guitar (this tele) to my liking. Don't get me wrong, out of the box, this is a great looking guitar, the neck is perfect, satin finish, straight as an arrow, no fret buzz, no sharp edges, perfect intonation. I was amazed! My only downside comes with the electronics, not bad, but you can do better (they feel a little flat for my taste). So I swapped out all the hardware, made it all with black hardware, bought a hot rail, coil tapped the humbucker, bought locking tuners and bam! (the only thing I regret is not making it a 4-way switch telecaster...but that will come soon enough).

So if you feel like taking apart your guitar and making it your own, without feeling guilty... GO FOR IT!

I give this guitar a 5 out of 10 only because of the extremely low quality control on the factory setup and the hardware (tuning keys, bridge, input jack plate and pickup selector) are of low quality however, I do not plan on upgrading them. Everything works fine and I very gentle with my guitars.
Not much to mention, its a solid body hard tail guitar with a bolt on neck.
Out of the box this guitar was a mess. Very sharp frets, extremely high action, intonation off on every string and the neck had a inward bow. Not to mention a slight crack (very slight but noticeable) in the body at the neck joint. I did however expected this from a cheap guitar. After a complete setup - filing the frets, setting the action, setting the intonation and straightening out the neck I must say......I love it, absolutely love it. It is by far one of the most comfortable guitars I have ever played. The neck is perfect for chording jazz and classical chords. I play it clean through both pickups (in the middle position) and the tone is amazing. I can't imagine a custom shop tele playing or sounding much better than this squire.
Off the chart once it is properly set up.

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Electric Guitar:

I have an 83 American Strat in perfect condition but play this Squier Telecaster instead because it is simply more fun to play. Great action, super fast neck and beautiful tone. It is almost unbelievable for the little bit of money this Squier cost. I have no idea how they make this quality instrument for such chump change.

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar probably about 12 years ago from musicians friend. It was 129 back then, so it was a while ago. What I've always liked about this guitar is the neck. It is just so comfortable to play. I do recall having to file some sharp fret ends, and do some typical set up things to it, but I can't say I ever had any real problems with it when it was new. The pickups definitely never impressed me, I dealt with them for a few years, but finally had enough and installed some active EMG telecaster pickups. Now it's great! I get the nice warm twang, and it also sounds pretty good with the distortion on. Everything else is original and I can't say it's given me any troubles. The tuners, saddles, bridge, nut... Obviously they're cheap economy junk, but they're all original since the day I got it so they've held up alright so far!
Overall, this is one of those guitars I will never part with. I've stripped and repainted it so many times over the years and finally settled on bare wood lol.
I'm not sure how relevant my review will be, since a lot could've changed on these guitars since the day I bought mine, but if they're still made as well as mine, don't hesitate to pick one up. Overall a nicely built guitar, but plan on eventually changing the pickups out for something decent!

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Electric Guitar:

Squire has been building some excellent guitars in recent years at very reasonable price points.
I have several and they are really outstanding guitars for their price. 30 years ago you paid top price for any guitar that played and sounded good. Now you can buy a decent guitar for pocket change.
This guitar has a very nice neck and is well built.
I currently have 47 guitars and several of them are Squires and they are very good quality and play and sound great. This is a good guitar but:
THIS GUITAR HAS THE WORST PICKUPS OF ANY GUITAR I HAVE OWNED. YOU SIMPLY CANNOT MAKE IT SOUND GOOD.
Do not buy it unless you plan on replacing all of the electronics, pickups, pots. switches, all of it.
I had my first bad customer service experience with Musicians Friend in 20 years of doing business with them.
The customer service representative had the audacity to tell me to stop buying inexpensive guitars and started lecturing me on the need to replace all the electronics on any Squire I buy and said "well what do you expect".
I have been making money playing guitar since before he was born and he was telling me that I need to buy better guitars. Many of my guitars are worth more than his car.
I have had 100% satisfaction with Musicians Friend for 20 years and have spent a ton of money with them. Hopefully this is just a bad employee and not a policy change.
Do not buy this guitar unless you want to buy all the electronics to change it out. In that case just get yourself a Fender and you will be happy.

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Electric Guitar:

I bought the left handed version of this guitar and absolutely love it. Right out of the box the set up and intonation were on point. The only thing I didn't like about this guitar were the pickups. They sounded dull and very twangy, not in a good way, and had a little bit of noise in the background. A friend recommended Entwistle pickups, I had a pair installed and this guitar sounds as good as an american custom shop. Great buy for a lefty with few affordable options, upgrade the pickups and you have a great sounding guitar for less than you would pay for a standard telecaster.

Absolutely love this guitar. Great bang for the buck. When comparing it to my old 65 tele, two things come to mind. The strings do not go through the body, but it does have individual string saddles.

This guitar is great . I have been playing 30 years, owned guitars in all price ranges. If I didn't see the name or price tag I would never know it was a budget priced guitar. The tone and feel are great. Also the frets are finished well so no sharp edges on hands.
          Great guitar for the price.

I bought mine in Arctic white last summer as an " extra " guitar, figuring I could replace the pickups as long as the neck was half decent. Right out of the shipping box the instrument played as well as any of the 4 USA tellies I've owned over the years. It sounds fantastic and stays in tune. It looks great and has been an asset to all my recording projects and Live shows. I feel a little sorry for my Strat, as it's taken a back seat to this little well-made Chinese version of one of the most iconic guitars of all time. The selector switch failed and I replaced with a new one early on. I bought a nice vintage case for her and it's a beautiful package! Totally love this guitar!
