the kind of guitar you can get for nothing today is absurd. modern technology like CNC machines have just made

the concept of "craftsmanship" mostly irrelevant. this is my mini Charvel clone. it probably came out of the same factory in Indonesia,

too, at least as the lower model Charvels and Jacksons are.

it's just a guitar. it's a tool. it's what Fender set out to do and he did it right. it's simple--not quite as simple as a Telecaster,

but basically a tele with a little extra flair, that's all. it's a work machine. it's not gonna be the guitar you use playing at the

White House for the president, and probably not the guitar you use to lay down tracks in the studio. but for learning, practicing,

jamming, and having fun, it rocks hard. neck is solid, no sharp edges on the frets, really slim and fast profile, no gloss on the back so

it's easy to slide around. nice one-piece maple with a skunk tripe. action out of the box was high, but setting it down to 4/64" was

easy-peasy with hardly any buzz. the truss rod works like it should.

and the finish is wonderful. the cons are.. well, obviously a lower end tremolo as on this guitar is going to be a little useless. you

can't do pretty flutters with it, but you can divebomb all day. out of the box it was decked anyway, so for new players it won't go out

of tune. the nut was cut fine and the tuners were tight. just all around a great guitar. the pickups, however, are extremely unbalanced..

the middle pickup seems to be wound really hot, but I kind of dig it myself. there's probably something to be done in the electronics

with the potentiometers and tone capacitor to balance it out, but I don't know much about that. I messed with the pickup heights to

compensate and it rocks nicely, but the sound isn't the kind of butter you'd expect from a "real strat." who cares, though, for a benjamin?

Comments about Squier Bullet Stratocaster with Tremolo HSS:

I buy Squire for modification purpose. When received I just do overall test then disassemble completely for modification. So my review may not help most of you but this is what I feel after purchased a half dozen of Squires:

1) Body material differs by production lot. Some are noticeable lighter than the other. Some materials are very soft and need care in hole repair/modification.
2) Squire body is thinner (and lighter) than Fender models but this is a plus for those who do gigs frequently. Weight balance of neck/body is perfect.
3) Paint on body is good. No complain about it. Shield paint in cavity is nice.
4) Some screw holes are not straight or off aligned. Some thread is stripped.
5) Good bridge assembly. Does the job.
6) Tunes do the job and stay in tune but turning torque is not consistent. To install upgraded tuners you need to enlarge holes to 10 mm diameter (you need drill press - not hand drills)
7) General wiring is good. No faulty or poor soldering or noise issues.
8) Pickups are good. However, the last one I got was noticeably muddy and did not hear any difference in neck and mid pickup. Seemed like an issue with tone POT.
9) Neck is always straight and is good as is. Fret edge finish is rough. It is not difficult to round the edge by sanding and it makes your Squire much more playable. Sometimes I feel minor roughness in the back of neck which can be treated with polishing with hard cloth.
10) POTs, selector, and Jack are OK.
11) Strap buttons are securely tight. Nut is good. I do not use tremolo so no comment.

This is the FIRST Squier Bullet with a maple fretboard. Guitar is a great value. I bought the Surf Pearl- what a beauty!! Nice smooth frets, great action out of the box. Decent stock pickups. HIGHLY recommended!!!

Comments about Squier Bullet Stratocaster with Tremolo HSS:

I paid a slightly lower sale price for the black with maple fingerboard model. As always, Squier delivers. There is no question that Squier gives you more for your money than anything else out there. For 95% of the players out there, this IS as good a Stratocaster as you need. For the other 5%, just replace the tuners.

Comments about Squier Bullet Stratocaster with Tremolo HSS:

    Short version....
Great mod platform/entry level to intermediate guitar.
    Long version.....
Neck straight? body cracks? neck fits thet body tight? hardware correct? Fret ends? Check!
After removing the guitar from the boxes I was surprised to see it was made in Indonesia and not china. I have a LP style guitar made in Indonesia and its magnificent. Origin can be hit or miss, have seen others that were made in China which is what i was expecting.
This black/maple bullet is also very well made given its price point-I got it on sale.
The biggest downside is the tuners. Look for Hipshot vintage sized tuners with the UMP plate-they drop in no drilling-not sold here.
The body is in the middle weight wise, not feather light but not a neck breaker by any means.
The tones are acceptable with the stock pickups. I can foresee them being changed out later on for some more suitable and to get rid of all hte 60 cycle hum.
Fit and finish are great, its piano gloss black which means fingerprints are going to show easily.
Guitar necks are a personal thing for us all. I have large hands and long fingers and have no issue playing this guitar at all. The profile and raw wood of the neck is fun too play. and the fretwork? I am not sure how they do this but there are no sharp frets or dead frets anywhere on this thing. String spacing is fine.
Do your homework though. Not every one of these out of the box will be in good shape. They may need a full setup by a good tech or at least have them check it for any major issues like twisted neck, misaligned bridge, etc. Get a bad one? send it back for another. When you get a good one you will know.
Shame we cant use CNC machines in the states to make these like they do overseas.
Thanks to Fender and Squier for making a guitar like this that is this well built!
30 years ago i would have cried to have one of these fot this price!
Four out of five stars because nothing is perfect including me.

Comments about Squier Bullet Stratocaster with Tremolo HSS:

I bought this about a week ago and can't seem to put it down. Ive had squiers in the past and was never really impressed. This one is the exception. The neck and middle pickup sound awesome. The bridge humbucker is kind of flat. I mostly use the bridge pickup in combination with the middle pickup. Solid guitar after dropping the action and setting the intonation. I did the setup myself though... This may cost you a few doll hairs to have done if you don't know how. I don't really have any complaints about the guitar. The only modifications I will see myself doing would be upgrading the tuners. They work but seem fragile. Super great way to get classic strat tones for under a hundred units of monetary value.

Once again for those who don't realize it that this isn't just a beginner's guitar although it's a great on at that. However any pro player or intermediate player can always count on one of these as a second or third guitar or you'll find that you'll want to play it all the time too.

I can't say enough how much I've liked the Bullet series. I just got this because I already had an HH Strat and was very happy with it. Neck is good. Frets are decent. The pickups are surprisingly decent. Not to say changing them out wouldn't give you a major upgrade, but they're ok.

Once again an incredible value for a very incredible Squier by Fender Strat guitar model. I bought the Surf Pearl Green and I like all of the black hardware especially that they've upgraded the machine heads with the adjustable screw in the tuning buttons which makes quite a big difference than the ones that didn't have them on older models that I own and purchased from Musician's Friend.

Pretty nice guitar after installing roller saddles, bone nut, roller tees, locking tuners and about an hour of setup. I got a different guitar than what I ordered. The box was marked right but someone put a different strat in it. OK with me. The tuners were the weak link on this guitar. Too sticky/glitchy and since I was going to spend some money on them, I decided to spend a little more on the other items. Plays very well for a cheap guitar. I have some high value guitars but I'll let this one take the wear and tear of everyday use. Very good value, especially for someone just starting out - just make sure to have it set up properly. All work was accomplished under an "A" note.

I got this when I was just starting out. It was my second guitar (My first was a B.C. Rich Warlock). It's a good guitar if you're just starting out, which I was. But here's the thing, I've only ever been able to keep .09-.46's on it, which is not my preferred gauge. Other than that it's a fine cheap guitar.
