Comments about Squier Bullet with Tremolo HSS:

This was an impulse buy, triggered by the sale price and the gold color. I had my doubts about this one. When I opened the box, the first thing I noticed was the striking gold color. The fret ends are smooth and level, although they did need to be polished to remove corrosion. The intonation was spot-on, which surprised me. However, the set-up was way off. The saddles were jacked up in the air and there was excessive neck relief, which was corrected. The truss rod works smoothly, after removing a considerable amout of grease from the access hole. All of the switches and knobs work properly. The quality of the finish is pretty good, although not perfect, displaying several small blemishes which were expected in a guitar at this price range. The tuners work as intended, but have a cheap feel as you turn them. One in particular feels dodgy, and may cause trouble down the road. The strings were badly rusted and were promptly removed. The item of most concern is the wood, which is listed as Okume. With the neck removed, the wood does not look very hard, and it is fibrous and splintery in appearance. The neck and neck pocket needed a small amount of fine sanding to allow the neck to fit flush in the pocket. The saddles are cheap-looking but function. I installed the included fourth tremolo spring because I don't use the wammy bar and prefer the bridge to sit flat against the body, so I can't comment on the smoothness of that feature. The pickups sound amazing for this price-point. I won't be swapping them out in the near future. All things considered, this is a good guitar at a super price. And you gotta love the color!

Comments about Squier Bullet with Tremolo HSS:

This guitar is like the Squire '51 in that it's not that expensive to start with, but can be built up with mods. I put a couple of DiMarzio pickups in the bridge and middle positions, and left the well-potted stock neck pickup alone. Now the the axe sounds great, and there is some pride in the accomplishment. The only complaint is that the body is only 42mm thick. But it is basswood, so it is really light. Perfect for a student. The gold color is good, too. I'd say if you're thinking of a PartsCaster, this might be the place to start.

Comments about Squier Bullet with Tremolo HSS:

        • Pickups are surprisingly useful. A little harsh, compared to the CS '69s and Fat '50s in my two MIM Strats, but the single-coils in particular can be better than I expected. The bridge humbucker is a little harsh, and ice-picky. At the next string change, I'll rewire the first tone control to the neck and middle pickups and the second tone control to the bridge, as was done in my MIMs. That should make all the pickups more controllable. Overall sound is very good through my Musicmaster Bass amp and my Mustang I v2 amp. My Egnater Tweaker 15 head and cab exposed the harshness I spoke of quite a bit more. I'll have to do some "tweaking" for this guitar, it seems.
        • It was strung with D'Addario 9-42s when I got it. As a part of cleanup, setup, and baselining it, I changed those to Fender Original Bullets 9-42s. There is a HUGE difference in tension between those sets! Like a 2/3 turn of the truss rod difference. I had to give a 1/2 turn with the original strings to get the relief right, and it took another 2/3 turn to get the neck to the same relief I had before after changing to the Bullets of the same string gauge. Very surprising. I noticed that the original D'Addarios seemed very soft; I'll keep that in mind for the future.
        • Because it sat in MF's warehouse for two years or more, the frets had tarnished and the strings had gotten grungy. All-Purpose Miracle Cloth (same as Gorgomyte, but under a different name) got rid of the tarnish really quickly, and the new fret surfaces became smooth. Glad I found out about that!
        • All playing action issues were cleared as a result of setting the neck relief to spec. Even intonation was spot-on, per my strobe tuner. Another pleasant surprise.
        • Tuners not great, but serviceable.
        • Love the Aztec Gold color!

Comments about Squier Bullet with Tremolo HSS:

I purchased this for my grandson-in-law. I was totally surprised with this guitar. Compared to what I was expecting for what I paid - this Strat is pretty and plays well. I did spend a lot of time filing the fret ends and sticking some shims under the neck. But when I finished this was a little gem to play. Nice paint job and good enough tone for a beginner and beyond. Slippery neck and can take a low string height without buzzing. [If you knock down a few (very few) unlevel frets.] The kid will love it. Thanks!

Comments about Squier Bullet with Tremolo HSS:

Bought this for my 15 yr old son, he is an accomplished musician, multi instruments and bands. He was using my Strat a lot and I was nervous every time he left the house with it . Got this guitar thinking, if it didn't work out, we'd up-grade using MF's 45 day policy. No need to up grade. After I did a set up,(I put .008's on it), and redrilled the tension screws for the tremolo (they were drilled in crooked and the cover plate wouldn't go back on after the set-up), this thing is a kick. Great neck, amazing pick-ups for the price, plays like butter, and the color is awesome. Love this guitar. The tuners are bad though, have to work at it to get them just right, but the guitar stays in tune even when dive bombing the whammy. I disagree with the reviewer (I think on youtube) that gave negative remarks about the tremolo, after set-up ours works great.
