I have been playing guitar for a long time, and I have owned countless guitars over the years and the Jagmaster compares to some guitars that are 3 times the price. Dont let the price or the "Squier" name put you off, this really is a great guitar. The neck plays great even before its nice and worn in. The action feels like that of a much more expensive guitar, and it was set up great from the factory. Mine is the Jagmaster II which differs from the earlier model in that it has an alder body, strat style trem, Duncan Designed P/U's, and a few other small details. The pickups are great for bluesy or classic rock styles, but even under high gain situations they keep their composure and retain great note seperation (Definately uncommon for a "cheaper" guitar). This trhing sustains like you wouldnt believe and it really has a unique deep tone! Definately the BEST guitar for the price and I would prob pick it over many more expensive guitars! Go play one and you'll see what i mean!

i bought this guitar used in the back of a hollowood's guitars store a long time ago. it was the first guitar i bought and i didnt really know what to look for so i bought it. later when i found that it didnt sound as great as a few other guitars i ripped out the bridge pickup and replaced it with a seymour duncan (best decision i ever made), then changed the tuners. i think the tuners were the past owner's fault, though, that thing couldn't have left the shop with tuners like those. i reccommend this guitar for beginning guitarists, as long as it's brand-new, or for expirienced musicians that need something to do on a rainy day.

Squier Jagmaster

Comments about Squier Jagmaster Electric Guitar:

The Squier Jagmaster is an amazing guitar for the money. I bought mine in 2004 and it has proven to be an excellent musical companion for playing live and in the studio. The off-set body is extremely comfortable and I love the placement of the controls. I still use the stock pickups which are very unique sounding...maybe I just lucked out and picked a winner. I did switch to Sperzel tuners for ease of string changing. The guitar just sounds "Funky" and is great for all styles. In the studio, the Jagmaster playing through a Fender Frontman 25R is a winning combination. I highly recommend the Squier Jagmaster.

Outstanding Value

Comments about Squier Jagmaster Electric Guitar:

Purchased a guitar like every other kid when British invasion happened. Learned 2-3 chords then stopped playing. Recent early retirement (1.5 yrs. ago) Decided to start over with lessons. Based on previous guitars Ibanez as73, a shitty epi std les Paul and a decent (believe it or not) Arbor es335 copy this guitar has a better tone/sound than any of the previous guitars I owned. The 24"scale is awesome for someone with smaller hands and/or stiff fingers. When playing the 1,4,5 in E.... I can easily reach the 6th fret with my pinky on thed string which I could not do on the std scale or the 24.5" Les Paul. A big plus for me when reaching any difficult notes. The body of mine is in 4 pieces but the quality of the seams in very good. The single knob for tone as well as volume helps with the old KISS method.Purchased new and right out of the box string set up/action was great, low but no fret buzz. The intonation needed some adjustment but after all this is a guitar for under $300 so no big deal and an easy fix. (I suggest go to amazon.com and purchase ( "totally guitar, a definitive guide") I first played this guitar at a local MC and was amazed at how easy it was to play and the neck was as good as any I can remember playing. For some of the players with more playing experience with better quality guitars, the impression the get of the Jaguar will not be as good as mine, however most of the reviews by them still consider this an outstanding value.I am very pleased with my purchase and at this point would replace it should it be stolen or whatever......... I am quite anxious to try the Blacktop Jaguar with its 24" scale fretboard as well. My sunburst model is stunning and while the finish is not perfect the one flaw was on the back and difficult to find.

Had one almost since they came out! Switched pups. to get "4 wire" coil tap/splitting option. These are-[or were 2 wire pups, when i got mine.]. All in all, a sweet little Ax! BTW I have 35 guitars, was a travelling road musician for many years, and had owned a guitar/Amp Shop, in the "70s.Sooo I have a basis for comparison. It's a easy playing good sounding guitar, even W/O the Pup mod.

Comments about Squier Jagmaster Electric Guitar:

Great guitar. I've owned one since high school and it's been through a lot of garage bands with me. My current collection totals about 54 guitars, everything from First Act to Martin, and the Jagmaster is still my favorite.

I turned my back on it for a while because of the "Squier" label, but I've come to realize this guitar is just special.

It's crisp and loud. It's perfect for indie and punk. It looks awesome. It has a strat trem system, which is nice and simple.

It doesn't fit every style, but if you're looking for hard and loud, it's perfect. I played mine until sweat rusted the trem bar.

Wouldn't trade it for a '54 Strat or a pre-war Martin. For whatever reason, I love it that much.

Comments about Squier Jagmaster Electric Guitar:

I have to say, I am quite impressed with this guitar, especially for the price I paid. Even had I bought it for the list price, I would be very happy. It looks stunning, like any Fender offset guitar. The wood grain was nearly flawless, even for being a three-piece alder body, it matched up almost perfect. And the burst is beautiful. The neck is a single flat sawn piece of maple, with great color and grain. Acoustically, it's pretty loud, which might account for it's *spoiler* great tone. Plug it in, and clean, the bridge pickup is punchy, but still crispy and kind of twangy. The middle position is pretty "quacky", almost like a Tele middle. The neck pickup sounds fat, full of bass (no mud), and surprisingly articulate. Crank the gain, and I think you'll be pleased. The bridge pickup is crunchy, bright, but not super hot. The middle sounds kinda like the in-between spot on a wah pedal. The neck pickup is decent dirty, bright like the bridge pickup, pretty fat, but still not super hot. They're definitely usable, but I may replace them down the road. As far as playability, it's awesome. Nice low action, and very little fret buzz (all Fenders buzz a little from the outdated 9.5" fretboard radius...). Bends are smooth and easy, and neck feels great. It's got a broken in feel you don't have with most newer guitars. Well to sum it up, Fender/Squier made a home run with this baby. Great looks, playability, sound, feel, and price. Literally the only draw back is that it goes out of tune very quickly if you use the tremolo (any non locking trem will). Otherwise, it stays in tune for days at a time with very minor adjustments. I would use this to play anything from blues, and jazz, to alternative and progressive metal. And it's good enough to be a studio guitar, but cheap enough to beat on every weekend at gigs. Would recommend the JagMaster to anyone!

      Best Guitar Ever!

      By Josh-wN-_l

Comments about Squier Jagmaster Electric Guitar:

I've been playing guitar for 16 years, everything from Blues to Classic Rock to Heavy Metal, and I've spent tons of money on guitars throughout the years that I really could have saved because I believe the Squier Jagmaster was made for me! First of all, the picture in the magazine does not do this guitar justice at all. I chose the sunburst finish and it is absolutely beautiful. The one-peice slender neck is awesome, a feel somewhere between a Jackson Dinky and a Strat, it's just the neck I've been looking for. It also hangs perfectly from the guitar strap while wearing. I have read several reviews on this instrument, but have had none of the problems that some people have mentioned. I've had no trouble keeping the strings in tune, and I play near the bridge, so the pickup-switch never gets in my way. I replaced the original strings from .09's to .10's, tightened the truss rod just a little, set the intonation, and slightly lowered the bridge. Now I can't keep my fingers off of it!! You will not be disappointed with this guitar. I recommend that anyone who appreciates great quality, appearance, playability, and style for a low price, go out and buy the Jagmaster for yourself!!

Don't believe what you have heard

Comments about Squier Jagmaster Electric Guitar:

Overall this guitar plays and looks really great and subdued my fix for an offset guitar. The guitar has a lot of modding potential. I opened it up and the Duncan Humbuckers are four lead so you could split them pretty easilly and you have a lot of cavity space and room on the pickguard for adding extra controls. I would still choose this one over the vintage Modified Jazzmaster and Jaguar because I feel those ones have more features but are extremely ugly guitars. This one looks much more vintage to me. You can get some great tones out of the humbuckers but it would have been nice to have single coil tones from the factory in my opinion. My biggest problems are the shape of the pickguard and the neck takes some getting use to. Other than that I do really love this guitar and its a modders dream.
This guitar looks great and plays great, My complaints are: the short scale neck, the ugly pickguard, and the limitations of the humbuckers. My praisals are: the ease of playabillity, the styling of the guitar, the tone of the humbuckers, and the tremolo. I give it a seven because it has so much more potential as far as featres go, I'll explain later.
This is where the guitar shines. The Duncan Designed humbuckers sound excellent if you like humbuckers, the neck feels and plays great with the exception of the cramped short scale, the tremolo works great, no buzzing, and stays in tune. Its a really solid guitar and the neck feels like a much older instrument.
I feel for the price tag and the features this guitar is a little over priced. You have one tone, one volume, two humbuckers, and a three way switch. The tremolo is strat style and the pickguard is plain. I don't see where the money is coming from in my opinion. Its a nice alternative for an offset guitar in a good price-range but compared to the prices of squire strats and teles I think its a bit inflated.

Squier by Fender Jagmaster Electric Guitar

      By Dannybubbazenjethro

      from Las Vegas

Comments about Squier Jagmaster Electric Guitar:

The Squier by Fender Jagmaster Electric Guitar is one of the best possible purchases a musician could make. I have over 30 years of playing and gigging experience and have owned countless high end guitars. This is the best overall value I have found in any guitar period. I would like to preface this discussion with a thought to all of the frustrated musicians searching for ?that illusive magical tone?. Please spend your money on high quality simple tube amp as opposed to spending thousands on high end guitars. And learn some basic guitar set up and maintenance techniques. Anyway, back to the main point. The 24 inch scale on this guitar lends itself to accurate intonation once set up properly. The instrument should be set up with 10?s as opposed to 9?s. The beauty of this instrument is that in its stock configuration it is very musical and aesthetically pleasing. The fun part is in the fact that you could buy several of these things for the price of an American made Tele or Strat and modify them infinitesimally. The guitar will cover most Genres of music very well. The wood, workmanship, and tone are all top notch. The QC processes in the Chinese musical instrument factories is excellent. My favorite simple mod is to replace the stock pick up with P-90s that are encased in a Hum bucker housing. One of the Major Pickup manufactures offers this model. Another fun mod is a set of Seymour Duncan P-Rails. One must understand a couple of issues about guitars made overseas: you are dealing with different climatologically conditions and wood. There will be deviations in neck bowing and fret shrinkage, this is why I mentioned learning some basic maintenance and set up techniques. I have bought countless guitars that people thought were garbage, when all it took was a new set of strings, a truss rod adjustment and some cleaning to have a stellar instrument.

There is nothing negative that I can say about my particular Jagmaster. The alder is matched wonderfully, the sunburst finish is flawless and the Duncan Designed humbuckers sound incredible.Played through a Marshall or Fender, this guitar screams. If it were stolen, I would absolutely order a replacement the same day.

Comments about Squier Jagmaster Electric Guitar:

If your getting your first guitar, but still want to sound good, I completely recommend this guitar for you! I went to every guitar shop in town trying different guitars and determining if they were in my price range or not. Granted this guitar is in the upper $200s, it is worth every penny. This guitar will stay in tune and delivers a crisp solid sound that so many cheap beginner guitars lack. The pick ups are a little cheap, but they do all right. The guitar itself is of sturdy construction and I love sunburst finish and pick guard. I've had this guitar for about 3 years and I can honestly say I love playing it. Currently I use 10-46 gauge strings and play through a Vox DA5 amp. This is great for my college apartment. The guitar is not without its flaws and I eventually plan to upgrade as all musicians tend to do. As I said before the pickups could be better quality as well as the bridge. The string tensioners on the bridge are a little iffy so it takes some time to get the guitar in tune, but once you do it sounds pretty decent.

      Believe the hype!

      By ggg-T046L

      from San Francisco, CA

Comments about Squier Jagmaster Electric Guitar:

Just so you can judge for yourself, I'll start this by saying I'm probably a bit biased, because I love the look of the Jaguar and (to a slightly lesser extent) the Jazzmaster. I've played only a few Jaguars and Jazzmasters a handful of times. Therefor, I can't accurately judge how faithful the Jagmaster is to a combination of the Jaguar / Jazzmaster. But given the specs of it, I don't really think that's the point of this instrument. Moreso, the Jagmaster offers the classic look of the Jaguar with a modern approach. The notoriously troublesome floating tremolo has been replaced by a vintage style strat bridge (synchronized tremolo). The old noisy single coil pickups are now Duncan Designed HB-103 humbuckers (patterned after SH-6 Duncan Distortions), which are surprisngly good and versatile for stock pickups! When I first purchased the guitar, I intended to replace the pickups immediately with some Lace duallys, but I've now opted to add coil split switches for both instead. The neck, while not lacquered, is very smooth and comfortable. Mine came perfectly set up with the action just right. I picked up some Regular Slinkys (10's) when I bought the guitar, but I think you should use 11's minimum. If you're a vintage guitar enthusiast, you probably have the money to buy a Jaguar or Jazzmaster and this isn't for you. For someone like myself who enjoys the look and style of these classis guitars, but is more interested in a versatile instrument, this is an amazing deal. It's also a great starting point if you want to build a custon Jaguar or Jazzmaster (which I plan on doing). The space cut out under the pickguard gives a lot of room for custom modifications.

Comments about Squier Jagmaster Electric Guitar:

bought this as a level 4. It had a bad pot and a few scratches and a crack in the neck pocket only noted when the face plate was removed. a bit of work and it was working perfectly. Boy am I glad I pulled the trigger on this one
I have never bought squiers. I always thought they were cheap guitars. Wrong!. Sure its not a 2000 guitar but the quality is outstanding. Heres the run down as based on my 30 or more years of playing.
Tuners are functional. No need to change. Neck is beautiful with really terrific fretwork. no need for fret leveling. Nut is decent and well cut. no need to swap out. Pickups which are Duncan designed sound GREAT!. Once again no need to change. they are full, clear, without mud and sound great clean and overdriven. body is well finished. bridge is vintage strat style and stays in tune well. pots are average as noted by the failed tone pot. this is the only thing I would change if I bought a new one and honestly since they work I would just wait until they failed to change. I've seen worse. This guitar is perfect for rock, blues and of course grunge style rock. It needed a set up but out of the box a new one (not level 4)would not need anything else. Is a great guitar esp for the price

Comments about Squier Jagmaster Electric Guitar:

I have read most of the reviews and agree that this guitar is an amazing value, looks great, has excellent woods and finish, nice fretboard.
I am a tinkerer so I immediately went to work on some affordable upgrades. I removed the pickups and electronics and installed a DiMarzio DP191F at the bridge and a DP190F at the neck and added the EP1111 3-way switch, upgraded the pots and knobs to CTS. While I was at it, I completely lined the cavities with copper foil shielding. The results are amazing. I also replaced the saddles with GraphTech String Savers. All these mods were quite affordable but they were worth it and turned a cool looking budget axe into a complex tonal machine.

            A great guitar

            By TheJagster

            from Honolulu

Comments about Squier Jagmaster Electric Guitar:

The jagmaster is a very good quality Squier. It's probably equal to a standard model Fender. Neck is small and thin which makes it perfect for small hands (such as mine). A light weight body with a very great and functional bridge. Humbuckers churn out great tone and sounds through any amp and sounds VERY excellent distorted. The only reason for the 7 in quality is that my model chips quite easily. I've had it for about 2-3 weeks and already I've had 2 paint chips from very light bumps. All in all, great guitar but watch where you swing the body.

Comments about Squier Jagmaster Electric Guitar:

The fit and finish of my Jagmaster is terrific and the fretwork is great. The 24" scale is a dream for bending and vibrato techniques, but the nut was improperly cut and will not allow the strings to come back in tune. Also, a heavy grip causes the strings to go sharp. The pickup selector is in the way of lively strummimg or heavy strokes. The electronics were a disappointment. Through my Hartke amp, they sound noisy and uninspiring. Also, placing my fingers anywhere on the pickguard below the pickups causes static. Still, I can't help but like it a lot. I intend to put in USA Jazzmaster pickups, a new nut, cavity shielding, and either a slide-type pickup selector or a blend knob.

A real Sweetheart of an Axe!

Comments about Squier Jagmaster Electric Guitar:

This is probably one of the nicest sounding guitars that I have ever owned. With emphasis on one. I've owned alot of nice ones, but, this just seems to have a personality all of it's own. It's sound is somewhere between Gibson and many of the original Fenders. The quality of the finish, playability and fit are superb. I have heard some complain about the pickups but you won't hear that from me. The chrome on the hardware holds up well to the chemicals in my body sweat during a performance. That tells me that contrary to rumors being spread about the quality of oriental chroming, they do a good job. Will it stand the test of time? Who knows! However, for the price and fine retro styling, I'll keep playing it as a first and second guitar both on stage and in the studio.Don't take my word for it, it's inexpensive enough for those on a budget or for those like me that just appreciate a nice guitar in a lower price range. It won't replace my Strat. But, it still has a place in just about anyone's guitar stable.

I bought this guitar a few months ago on a whim and what a surprise it has been. I use it primarily for band practice in a professional recording studio. It has great tone, the neck is near perfect, and it stays in tune. We play surf/rockabilly and it fits in really well but it also doubles as a great hard rock guitar. I find myself quite often passing my other guitars and grabbing this one first.... I highly recommend it not just for tone and playability but you really get a lot for such a low price!

This guitar is amazing for the price. I went into a guitar shop with my heart set on a danelectro. Picked this baby up and played it, and about 10 minutes later it was mine. Great sound. Great playability, feels amazing. The only thing is that I got a sunburst and im not a huge fan of the paint job, but that can easily be fixed. If youre looking for a good value priced guitar, give this one a chance.
