I bought my husband a standard Stratocaster several years ago to get him to quit playing 'air guitar', but he's left handed, so I haven't tried to play it. I decided I should just go ahead and get a little electric guitar for my fifty-three year old arthritic hands. The Squire Mini is perfect for a lady who has average to small hands, and it is as easy to play as my acoustic parlor guitars with 11 gage Silk and Steel strings.I bought it recently, used, as it was offered at a ridiculously low price. The owner had bought it for a travel guitar, but had large hands. He demonstrated it for me. I did hear a buzz or two, but when I play it, it actually sounds sweet, and no buzz.It may work better for me because my hands are smaller, or my touch lighter, but I'm sure that when I get it set up, any issues will be dealt with. I've had guitars professionally set up before, and it is a small expense that results in a better than new guitar, even when the guitar IS new.I tried to get more into guitar for years, but never got anywhere until I learned to get the right size guitar for my hands, the right strings for the guitar, and a good luthier to set it up. I now have the enthusiasm to learn more chords, and I look forward to practicing, rather than dread it.I'd encourage anyone with small hands, or who has a child who'd like to play electric guitar to try a Squire Mini. Don't buy it for a travel guitar UNTIL you've tested your hands on a small guitar. It might be just the thing for you. If not, then you can look for one of the travel guitars with full scale size, and the various small bodies, or the models that are 'headless'.It's a nice little guitar, light, easy to play, and cute as a button. Okay, I guess I just drove off all the young guys, screaming they don't want to have anything to do with Squire Mini's, 'cause an old lady says they're CUTE! Feel free to edit that out!

This is the second mini strat I've purchased. The first, about 8 years ago, was amazingly right on fresh out of the box. This one, destined for my youngest grandson, was a real disappointment. There was a chip in the neck and the first five frets rang so sharp it was unplayable. Even an intonation adjustment was no help. This one was a replacement for a different brand youth guitar that was also defective. Rather than take yet another chance I requested a refund rather than a third replacement.

It's worth mentioning that when you return a defective product for a refund two things happen: 1) you're charged for the "free" shipping you received on the product and 2) you have to send it back at your own expense. So for a defective guitar I'm going to be out of pocket around half the retail cost. This isn't the usual outstanding service I'm used to receiving from Musician's Friend. I get that for MF to pay the freight both directions is not right but it would have been fair to split the total cost.

Comments about Squier Mini Strat Electric Guitar:

Well I managed to get a set of vintage Kluson style tuners mounted on this thing, as well as some fresh tuners and a graphite nut... after a setup and some new strings I have to admit this little thing is a player

Comments about Squier Mini Strat Electric Guitar:

I picked this up for my son, it's great for his little hands (he is 7 years old). This thing could not stay in tune for if it's life depended on it. The factory plastic nut was a little offset, I removed it and replaced it with a cheap, standard Strat, graphite nuts from Guitar Center, helped out a lot with tuning stability. It's still not as nice as I would like but I am planning to try restringing with 11 gauge strings and then see if the guitar will hold tune a little better... my hunch is that it will... other than that I might need to get some new tuners

Comments about Squier Mini Strat Electric Guitar:

This is a great guitar for a child. My son is 8 years old and learning circles around other children his age because his guitar is actually playable and not discomforting, a side effect that most people overlook when purchasing a guitar for a child. I am blown away at his progress with this guitar and he will cherish it forever. I am a professional working musician and highly recommend this guitar.

Comments about Squier Mini Strat Electric Guitar:

I bought this for my Grandson who is only 4 years old. He loves messing around with my guitars when he's with me so I figured I'll get him his own and see if he takes to it at some point in time. My Dad played the bass back in the late 60's early 70's and his cousin played guitar. He used to leave his second guitar at my house and I learned to play just by messing around and looking through chord and scale books. My Grandson loves the fact that this guitar is exclusively his and even though he is very young, who knows what may come of it. It sounds and plays good enough for what I'm using it for!

Not a bad little guitar. It was purchased for my 5 yr old grandson. You'll have to setup....

            Trussrod
            Intonation
            Action
            Pickups
            Tighten all screws
After that its playable. Works good your young kids learning to play.

Comments about Squier Mini Strat Electric Guitar:

Out of the box the setup was fine, I had no problems. I Replaced strings with 9s. I keep in trunk of car in a gig bag for impromptu jams. After a year. I decided to mess with it. I got the action down, flattened and compounded frets. adjusted nut and now its amazing for a inexpensive guitar. I was gonna put Texas specials in it but the ones in it are smaller and I would have to chisel some wood and cut on pick-guard I left it like it was "near perfect" It stays in tune as well as my American Stratocaster I would recommend this to my friends as a great starter for kids. Or a bang around guitar for themselves. I have even played jobs using the Squire mini.

We were looking for a light weight guitar for our 7 year old son. We had looked at few others, but they were to heavy for our son to handle. We purchased this one based on the reviews and hope that it stand the test of time in quality. It arrived a little over a week ago, so we have not had it long enough to really evaluate it when it comes to staying in tune. It looks solid and best of all our son loves it!

Unbolted the neck, put it in my luggage, and it kept me playing guitar while I studied abroad. Good action, little buzz, but fret ends were sharp so I had filed them down a bit. Overall I was very satisfied for the price. Very capable guitar.
