Back in 2000 I bought a Chinese made Squire standard Fat strat (two humbuckers) which, I was very impressed with in every way except the paint job wasnt top notch but it wasnt bad either. The neck felt great, no sharp frets sticking out and it sounded really good. So now, eleven year later I thought its time for a single-coil strat and I didnt want to pay a Fender price. So I looked into the Squire standard Strats.
After reading many good reviews on them which I wasnt surprised at all since I was very pleased with my own Squires Standard Fat Strat, I decided to order a cherry burst one with single coil pups.

When it arrived and I opened the box I was pleasantly surprised by how much prettier it was than its picture.
Beautiful stain finish and beautiful wood-grain.
I put it through my usual close and careful inspection. I kept on looking and looking.
NOT A SINGLE FLAW OR IMPERFECTION. NONE!!!
The craftsmanship, fit and finish is top notch.
      100% perfect.
Yes thats 100% and not 99%.
      I was amazed!
How can that be? Thats so rare.
I kid you not the fit and finish to this Chinese Squire is better than my American made fenders strat and Tele.
Action on this guitar is awesome, fret work is superb, feel of the neck is fast and the sound is that very famous and loved strat sound.
I bought this strat on sale but I wouldnt hesitate to pay its full regular price, ITS WORTH IT!

At the same time I ordered this strat I also ordered a Squire standard Telecaster which was made in Indonesia and it did have that famous Tele sound but the craftsmanship on it wasnt as good as this Chinese made standard Strat, so the Tele went back to the merchant.

I can honestly tell you that Im more impressed with the fit & finish of this Squire than my US made strat. The US made strat has a bit hotter pickups though.

Im sold on Chinese made Squires.
3 single coil pups, 5-way switch selector, fast and smooth satin finish neck, rosewood finger board, and great fret work.
Top notch, better than my US made strat.
      Excellent deal!

Overall I give the Squire Standard Stratocaster with the maple fretboard a 9 and three-quaters out of 10. My only complaint were a few slightly rough frets. One thing to mention though, this guitar is extremely light. I am not sure how much it weighs exactly, but it is much lighter than my Squier Stratocaster SE. Please don't take it's light weight as a lack of quality. The Squire Standard Stratocaster lives up to it's name!
From the twin-pivot tremelo bridge, whammy bar, and virtually every knob and switch the Squier Standard Stratocaster with the maple fretboard has high-quality features
I can only rate the Squier Standard Stratocaster with the maple fretboard a 9 out of 10 here because some of the frets on the one I got were slightly rough. That aside, the rest of the guitar absolutely exceeded my expectations for quality!
No question there. The Squier Standard Stratocaster with the maple fretboard is a great guitar for the money!

Comments about Squier Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Well, I could have expected Fender to send Jeff Beck over for a few lessons---but he was busy. This guitar plays as well as an expensive model (I started in 1965 with a 1962 strat----could have bought a house with what it's worth now!!). Point is---YOU play the guitar. If you can't flame this model, a high priced model won't help. You should have it "set up" though--little adjustments--new strings. Have fun with it. You won't regret it. PS I never give a 5 star rating to anything. Cheers!

I bought this for my Son-In-Law to learn on.... Before he received it, I adjusted the truss rod properly (not done at the factory...they're miserable), adjusted the bridge to match, and the tonation....Played it LIVE on stage, and it was not bad at all. For the money, it's one of the BEST bargains out there...and a NICE fit and finish.

My Son and I each have one of these, Mine is a SSS made in 2001 and my Son's is SSH made in 2007, both from Indonesia. Both were bought new, I have owned mine since late 2000, my Son's since 2009. Nice finish, very solid. Both stay in tune unless you do a lot of tremolo work. Twin piviot bridge is great, I like it way better than the vintage one on my MIM Strat. The single coils are not Hot, but, that is the way stock Strat coils sound on any regular Strat. The Bridge humbucker on the Fat is decently hot, my Son plays Iron Maiden with his and it works great. We love these guitars and they are worth more than the asking price. I highly recommend Squier Standard series and higher models.

Comments about Squier Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have had this thing (black metallic, maple fretboard) for a short time and it rocks!

-Neck: The reason I bought a Strat in this price range is I wanted something with an unfinished neck, and this is perfect for me. The neck is thin, fast, smooth and non-finished, which I love! The only thing about the neck is the frets are a little bit sharp, and they kind of stick off the edge of the fretboard. But this is really no big deal.

-Body: Made out of agathis, the weight and feel of it is fantastic. I'm a Les Paul player of almost three years, and I wanted something different, and this is just what I was looking for.

-Hardware: Still has factory made hardware on it, but I don't care. The bridge, machine heads, pickguard, pickups, knobs and whammy bar all work awesome. The only thing I really don't like about this guitar is the whammy bar gets in the way when you want to do some palm-muting stuff, but I'll get over that soon. And even the strings; I'm going to swap the factory strings for some Ernie Ball Slinkies soon, but until then, these Fender gauge strings are holding up really well.

-Sound: People say single-coils can't handle lots of distortion, and they're right. That's why I use as overdrive pedal, and it sounds fantastic. It kind of sounds like Dream Theatre's John Petrucci (my hero) if you ad some flanger to it, which is quite cool.

-Overall: Like I said before, I'm an avid Les Paul fan, but this guitar works just as well if not better than my Epiphone Les Paul. I would definitely recommend this to anybody.

Basic stuff, i like the 2 point tremolo, nothing fancy. What you'd exepect.
I got mine used and it was still in great condition, nice finish, nice frets, aesthetily it looks great. the hardware is not great... the bridge looks nice but and will keep the stringsgood but, the action is impossible to set low without getting frett buzz. the intonation is east to set and that's good. My least favorite part: the pickups. They suck soooooooooo bad, like a bullet strat pickups, they kept the same horrible pickups and just added a nice looking bridge, a nice finish, and boosted the workmanship quality bit, BUT THEY FORGOT THE PICKUPS!!!!
A little pricey for what you get... If you want it get it used, i got one used for a low price and i felt like i only got a bit more than my moneys worth... get a bullet if you dont mind the quality

                Good Guitar with Potential

                By Zachary Burditt

                from Lubbock, TX

Comments about Squier Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This guitar is what it is. It's a squier strat. It looks just like a fender strat, same style and design. The cheaper parts are the tuners, pick ups, bridge, knobs, etc, and the fact that it isn't hand made in America. That being said, there a decent chance that you can get a good Squier. Mine is pretty good overall. There are a few companies that make their own replacement strat pickups for a good price and sell aftermarket knobs and necks. On mine I bought some '59 Strat Vintage Alcino Pickup and a set of tuning knobs, ran me about $60 for all of it. I basically have a Fender. It doesn't bother me about the name. Nice thing about strats is the aftermarket support.
Tuners are bad. Guitar goes out of tune, Knobs are good, Switch is good. Can't tell the difference between the fender and strat. The pick ups are a little week. I get fairly noticable feedback, not terrible, pickups are NOT hot. They don't sound bad, not good, just meh. You easily forget the sound. There's something weird about the neck. Mine doesn't have finish on it. Which is fine because mine has a natural style body. It's an older one with an Ash body. But the neck feels bulky, may just be because I'm used to Ibanez necks.
The quality is what you pay for. Aside from the tuners and the pick ups everything is fine. I'm unsure about the neck, I can't say for sure if it's bad or not. I'm pretty sure its my imagination or just a preference.
This guitar is worth the price you pay definitely. Definitely a fair deal. Honestly if you know where to look and how to do you own electronic work its a base for upgrading.

I would say an 8 if the neck was good. I got it from the used section and the price was great.
Only a 5 because the guitar had a knot right at the heel where it joined the body.
                Still a 5
I would give it a 8 if not for the neck.

couldn't ask for more at this price point,,,i read one review where some bozo complained about the strings in the quality rating....you always should change the factory strings right away..and dont complain about the set up..this is a lower end guitar, but the quality is top notch..set it up for your needs..
you cant get more for your monwy...the only one better is the classic vibe
