The look and style of yesteryear with updated specs and electronics.

With its offset waist, contoured body, and 24" scale fast action neck, the new Vintage Modified Jaguar® gives a nod to its iconic forbearer but has other things going for it that make it truly 'modified'. The unique top-loading hardtail bridge features string saddles which are adjustable for intonation and designed to have a 9.5" radius when sitting flat on the bridge plate. The bridge is anchored at the rear of the plate while the front sits atop height adjustment screws which can be raised or lowered to achieve desired string height/action while subtle adjustment at the rear (anchor) achieves the correct bridge angle. The Jaguar HH is equipped with a set of Duncan Designed™ pickups which offer a multitude of "hot-rodded" humbucking tones. Other features include '62 Jazz Bass concentric volume/tone controls, vintage style tuners and a comfortable one-piece maple neck with rosewood fingerboard.

this is a great guitar right out of the box. the neck shape is nice and thick, but not a baseball bat, and feels almost identical to that of the classic player jaguar. I originally bought the sunburst model and the only modification I made to it was to disconnect the tone controls and use the pots as spin-a-splits to be able to split the humbuckers. That guitar was later stolen and I liked the model so much that I bought another, this time in fiesta red, this time taking advantage of the rhythm and lead circuit routes already present and modifying the guitar with a rhythm circuit like that of the classic player jaguar HH, adding the chrome plates that a jaguar should have and moving the pickup switch to the treble horn.

the stock pickups sound really great. the bridge pickup sounds like a JB, which it's modeled after and I can't say whether or not the neck pickup sounds like a jazz model since i've never had one. after adding switching to be able to split the pickups, I am able to get almost any tone that anyone could want from a guitar.

Lots of people don't like the bridge on this model, mostly because they think that for it to be a Jaguar it needs a tremolo, but I don't. I like how the saddles lay against the bridge plate at the appropriate radius for the neck and the bridge plate can be raised or lowered, but the individual saddles can also be adjusted if needed, kind of like a vintage jaguar bridge, but without the annoyance if it floating or the strings popping out of the saddle.

The one thing about the guitar that I really hate is the skunk stripe on the back of the neck, because I prefer the vintage correct look of a neck with a rosewood fretboard not having a skunk stripe.

I don't really care for the strat output jack, but I can live with it.

Overall, this guitar is one of the best Squiers I've ever owned, rivaling the quality of the classic vibe models, but with a lower price tag.

I got this guitar for my little brother before the new Vintage Modified Jags with the more authentic design came out, and I regret that a little bit. I'm going to try to be neutral in this review, but keep in mind that a lot of what I don't like about this guitar is personal preference and what are cons to me might be pros to you.

      The Good:
-These pickups are awesome. I have guitars that cost two or three times this price, and these are some of the best humbuckers I've ever heard. They're hot and in your face, and work well for the Kurt Cobain-inspired music this guitar is obviously designed for.
-The neck is a middle-of-the-road C profile, maybe a little fatter than a 60s Strat but nowhere near a 50s Strat or a Tele. This could be a pro or a con depending on what you like. I'm neutral; I prefer Soft V profiles, but this is not bad.
-The body is lightweight and resonates very well, it is a lively-sounding guitar for sure.

Now for the Bad, and unfortunately there is a lot:
-The bridge, the same design as the one from the Fender Toronado, is a terrible design. The height screws are hard to access and are not stable. The saddles are nigh-impossible to intonate. It is VERY hard to get a low action on this guitar, which is a problem I will tough upon later.
-The tuners are passable, but like many Fender-style guitars it is a challenge to keep the high B and E strings in the tuner hole while stringing and tuning to pitch. It takes some practice if you are used to working with Gibson-style tuners.
-I know some people like Jumbo frets, but personally I absolutely hate them. These frets are so tall that you can bend the notes up a half-step just by pressing them to the fretboard. I guess these are useful for tapping, but the fact that you need a very light touch to keep from bending the notes out of tune combined with the difficulty in getting low action makes this guitar very difficult for me to play.
-The 9.5" radius is not my preference either, but it's pretty standard and many folks like their fretboards even flatter.
-Finally, the toggle switch went out on me after about 3 months of very occasional playing.

To sum everything up, I'd like to say that I had a very difficult time trying to bond with this guitar. It looks and sounds pretty, but it is just not a comfortable guitar to play, even after countless tweakings of the setup.

That said, I would wholeheartedly recommend other guitars in the Squier Vintage Modified line, particularly their new Jaguars, Jazzmasters, and Mustangs. Squier is certainly capable of making a fantastic instrument at a low pricepoint, but this just isn't one of them.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar HH Electric Guitar:

These guitars have some good things going for them. Very comfortable to hold and play. Nice profile on body and neck. Nice, attractive finish. Good quality Duncan Designed pickups. Versatile controls. But it needs a lot of work to make it a usable, good playing instrument. The frets are wildly out of level - absolutely needs a fret level. The bridge is the stupidest design ever. It is impossible to adjust the intonation without a lot of trouble. Not well anchored in the body. The bridge needs to be rebuilt to make the guitar usable. I would not recommend this guitar unless you know how to fix a lot of the design flaws. Once those design flaws are fixed it is a very nice guitar for the money.

If you're thinking about buying this guitar, do it. I picked it up today at a local music store and I love it. I got the orange-ish one and it just looks amazing. The guitar sounds really good, and it's really versatile as well. I've never been one to modify my guitars too much, but I think this guitar is more than fine to play right out of the box. The bridge pickup gets pretty bassy and the neck pickup gets soooo thick. Pretty cool. But the best thing about this guitar is definitely the price. Don't pass this guitar up for something else just because it's a Squier. I also have a vintage modified telecaster with p 90s and I love that guitar as well. Overall, great value for your money, great sound, and great looks. So why haven't you bought it yet?

Very nice. Squier has to be the best per-dollar value for lo-$$$ guitars.

        By Lemuel Mason

from Shout out, the 'Ville !

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar HH Electric Guitar:

I am constantly amazed by the quality of these Squires. This is my second in as many years. After a few strike-outs looking for the right Gibson, I determined this low-budgeteer might work for my short scale/humbucker needs. And I was right. This guitar, like my last Modded Tele, is impeccably finished and has a scorching sound. The guitar is solid, and after minimal set-up, is ready to blaze away! Not a buttery Les Paul feel and the sound is sort of one-dimensional--L0UD!-- For the price paid, quite a nice guitar. The only complaint I might have is the bridge-- Weird stamped steel thing that is just sort of hanging there by wood screws, but worse, is that setting intonation(which it needed) is a really ponderous affair. I would have even preferred if they did a Gibson wrap-around to this one, but oh well . . . After checking out the entire squire line, I think they are a really hip company. The Avril Lavign/Sum41 Teles, the hotrodded Jags and Jazz's, etc. For new guitarists and someone just needing a workhorse like me, they have something for you.

        VERY DETAILED REVIEW!!!!

        By Jarred Valdez

        from Glendale, AZ

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar HH Electric Guitar:

I don't need to say anything hear, just read everything above.
This guitar is AMAZING!!! And I DESPISED Squier guitars!!! I LOVE Fender, but the Squier neck was a HUGE turn off.... until I grabbed this Jaguar! I IMMEDIATELY fell in love. Being a Cobain fan it was the right style guitar for me! The dual humbuckers are fantastic, although i do not like the Zebra designs at all. I'd rather have creme colored pickups, but that's something i can change later. The one problem I have is the toggle switch on the upper horn. It gets in the way when I'm playing and causes me to switch to the other pickup selections. BUT, i figured i'll just buy some Gaffers Tape and cover it up. I don't care what the others think of the bridge, but it's really not all that bad! I hate tremelo, so it's perfect for those who don't get TOO fancy with that stuff. Not the most visually appealing bridge, but it's very simplistic! The neck is LOVELY! It has a magnificent thin-ness to it, so it offers really good playability PLUS it has great action! The Kluson-Style tuners are great too, really make string changes MUCH easier!
The ONLY problems I currently have with this guitar is the strings have a LITTLE buzz, but it's something that I can deal with. AND the tuning of the guitar can get off sometimes, which is annoying, but you gotta realize that EVERY guitar has it's flaws AND it's not a FENDER JAGUAR, so cut it some slack. Other than that, the quality is ABSOLUTELY STELLAR!!!
I got this guitar for a great price! Compared to the Fender Jaguars. I own a Fender Jag-Stang as well, and I will have to say that this Jaguar is JUST about as good as it. I love both guitars very much and recommend this guitar to ANYBODY who is considering it. I was told to get the Squier Jazzmaster instead, but I can't stand P-90's and the blonde color. Sorry, Fender/Squier but the 3-Tone Sunburst is my favorite. Anyways, that raps up my review. I hope it helps.

Cool Little Guitar and an Awesome Mod Platform

        By Worm Food Express

        from Dallas, TX

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar HH Electric Guitar:

Again, with the mods I now feel this is a 10. But as it stands on the shelf I have to say they could've gone with a much better bridge, and a string thru design might've been interesting.
First off I have to say this has quickly become my favorite guitar. My other guitars being an American Tele and a MIM Tele (and previously a MIM Strat, Thinline Tele, etc..) The neck on this thing is very sweet, vintage frets and capable of really low action (though there will be some fret buzz on the 6th and 5th strings, but enough I can live).

I will say that I've since changed out the bridge and the pickups. The bridge in truth plays decently but made the guitar sound a bit dull imo, I swapped in a bridge that makes full contact with the body and the guitar sprung to life much more than I expected. People could hardly believe it was the same guitar, even before swapping out the pickups. The pickups are of good quality btw, but I'm more into the single coil sound.

With the short scale neck and lightweight body this has become my favorite guitar to jam on while watching TV and such, and with the mods is now my favorite recording guitar as well. As far as performing it's amazingly easy to play on this thing, and it looks pretty cool as well.

        - Sunbelt Ryders
If they shipped this thing with single coil pickups and a better bridge it would be a 10. The quality of the wiring and pots underneath the pickguard were surprisingly impressive. Very tidy wiring job and full sized pots. I did have to do a small repair to the toggle switch, which only involved dabbing on a small amount of solder and took a total of 30 seconds.
Awesome value for the money, Fender has been doing some impressive things with the Squier line imports recently.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar HH Electric Guitar:

Overall not bad to mod, bridge is terrible as I said...kinda put together quick. Classic look, great sound (when it works!). Check it out and make your own decision.
First off, sounds and plays great. The one thing was at the store the toggle went out...not good. The guy has no idea what happend. When it was working the sound was great, neck smooth, perfect tone and feel. The bridge however is horrible...it tore up the palm of my hand doing simple muffled sounds. Still thinking what I should do...
Well made with the finish, neck, body but the bridge is terrible and electronics need work.
        Ok, I have seen better

Fun Guitar, great for kicking out the jams

        By Henry Schecker

        from Stroudsburg, P.A.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar HH Electric Guitar:

It's a sweet little chord machine, absolutely fantastic for rythm playing. I play it every other day at my local music store, just waiting for the day I have enough money saved up to take it home. It can play everything from The Beatles to AC/DC to Nirvana and even some jazzy stuff. The fiesta red finish is awesome and the "duncan designed" pickups arre on par to stock epiphone humbuckers. It has a really comfy neck- nice and smooth- for people with short fingers or fat fingers(like me) and it's offset waist rests perfectly on your knee. It's a good jamming guitar, I could sit and bang out chords all day with it. It plays almost like a les paul, but the body contours make it much better than one. I'd recommend lead players to look elsewhere though, this one's better for the rhythm players.
The concentric volume cleans up nicely, the guitar is pretty simple in other aspects. The bridge holds the strings nice and taut. I actually prefer the strat jack, because it holds the cable better.
Feels solid and chunky(in a good way) It feels like it could take a fair amount of violence and abuse.
for the money it's a great guitar, feels like a mexican made fender.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar HH Electric Guitar:

        Plays great sounds good.
Right out of the box no problems, plays, sounds & looks good, just love the simplistic design and features.Great club ax. It got a lot of attention at my last gig. I am thinking about getting a sunburst model. This is the prefect guitar for endless fun with upgrades or just as is ! WOW !
        Great value
