The features, quality, and sound of this guitar make it a real deal at this price.
I gave this a 10 simply because the features it has at this price point is pretty incredible in a quality instrument. This isn't some entry-level-quality guitar. Good sounding H-S-M pickups AND a useable locking trem at this price is enough, but coupled with the small size, light weight, neck-through construction is irresistable.
The neck is wonderful. It is considerably wider and flatter than I'm used to, but the frets are excellent, and well-dressed. The finish seems to be a fairly thick poly. There's no wood grain showing, but it will be a care-free and durable finish.
The electronics are solid, although the location of the controls is going to take some getting used to, especially if you are a palm-muter. This is simply a design issue, that, given the size of the body, seems to be a moot point. The pickups and controls are also dead quiet, even the single coil, which surprised me.
I was unsure how to rate "quality" on this because I asked myself "does this have the absolute best of every item," and the answer of course, is no. But it's also priced at only $400. I the pickups aren't quite a full and rich sounding as Gibson Burstbucker Pros. Of course, a pair of Bursbuckers would cost almost what this entire guitar sells for. Also, this guitar doesn't strive to sound like a Les Paul. Sound wise, it seems to be somewhere between an SG and an Ibanez.
The fit and finish are excellent. There is no "oddness" or blems anywhere. The setup out of the box was, however, horrible. 10 minutes with a tuner and the included allen wrench cured that problem, and it's remained rock solid ever since, even through some fairly energetic trem activity. Due to the design, tuning is extremely stable.
The gig bag, while adequate, is pretty lame. Not much padding is included, and the zippers seem like they won't last too many years.
Unlike many other guitars in this price range, this one really stands out. It not only sounds good, it's rock solid, well-built, and just happens to be really fun and easy to play sitting on the couch.
And, for those who compare this to other "travel guitars," I will note that the difference between them and this, is that this one is a REAL guitar, and is quite capable of being gigged with. It's not some bizarre cut-down skeleton that compromises on sound. It's a full-fledged rocker, that just happens to be small, comfortable, and light weight.

I had the same problem as the previous reviewer- the bridge is mounted so poorly that it was grinding against the body. I own another Steinberger Spirit, and this guitar is worlds different. The neck is thick, REALLY thick! Also, take a really good look at the volume knob, the picture is innaccurate. Mine had the knob nearly touching the bridge pickup ring. You WILL beat your right hand to death on the volume knob. An interesting idea, not at all practical. This guitar used to be availible at another website, only there it was 25% cheaper! If you order this, you will soon wish you hadnt!

Comments about Steinberger Spirit GT-Pro Deluxe Electric Guitar:
The construction of this guitar is very good. Adjustments are very easy to make. The instrument is very comfortable to play--see the first complaint below for one exception--and stays in tune very well.
The GT Pro is also quite good looking. Until recently, I had never seen much beauty in anything other than the classic symmetry of the Stratocaster's double cutaway. But after owing this guitar for a few weeks, I find myself appreciating its very different looks.
As others have already noted, the GT Pro is very easy to carry around. In addition to its small size, it is extremely light.
There are two complaints that I have with this guitar:
1. The middle pick-up really interferes with my alternate picking
I also own a Fender Stratocaster, with three single-coil pickups. The larger physical size of Fender allows the pickups have ample space between them. So I have never felt hampered in my alternate picking. On this GT Pro, the pickups are a little more crowded, and the middle pickup sits right below where my pick naturally positions itself. In consideration of point 2 below, I think the middle pickup should be removed entirely. It really serves no discernible purpose.
2. The pickups are of rather low quality
This is the main complaint. If you can swap them out for something else, I can imagine this instrument being at least as good as any American-made Fender or Gibson.
Still, I am giving it a five-star rating, since at this price there might still be room in one's budget for an extra set of pickups.

Comments about Steinberger Spirit GT-Pro Deluxe Electric Guitar:
Periodically, I have to fly to another city for meetings, sometimes for an entire week. I missed being able to play my guitars in the evening as it helps me unwind and I need all the practice I can get. This guitar is an excellent travel guitar. It is small enough to carry-on and place in the overhead bin. I also use the Apogee jam and my iPad.

Comments about Steinberger Spirit GT-Pro Deluxe Electric Guitar:
I am impressed with the quality of the guitar at this price point. It stays in tune and the locking lever of the tuner allows you to play it as a standard fixed-bridge guitar. The tuners needed some graphite powder which I got from pencil lead and applied it to the tuners with a fine brush. Now they are smooth and work just right! Beautiful sound, the pickups can produce that is crispy and articulated. The action was too high but it can be adjusted to taste.

Comments about Steinberger Spirit GT-Pro Deluxe Electric Guitar:
Although Im a pretty awful player I have had a lot of guitars and played even more Im also used to taking them on flights or on my motorbike etc. This
is the best conventional travel guitar I could find at a sensible (well relatively) price. Its key design is the "tunerless head" which means that a small body can still keep its balance - some of the better other travel guitars manage by putting the tuners in the body of the guitar or hollowing out the head and some of these seem very good - albeit expensive for a les paul styled one.
I had a Hoener and hated it - the balance is dreadful when sat or even when on its strap although it did have quite a nice gritty sound, I had a mini Squire which wasn't too bad but the small fret board was too limiting and the pickups are bland and looked at buying other guitars too (EG1) but just didn't have the money. Actually Im very pleased with my stick it seems as good or better than my Pacifica to play standing or sitting (balance, feel wise) and sounds very nice. Since getting it I haven't stopped playing...

Comments about Steinberger Spirit GT-Pro Deluxe Electric Guitar:
As the other reviews state, this guitar is really impressive. I am blown away at the solid quality for [$]. The bridge is new-age - very dense which helps with sustain and harmonics. The double ball strings are brilliant. Will never go back to a floyd rose.If I really nit-pick:1) the frets could be sanded slightly and needed to be shined. NO BUZZING anywhere which is important.2) The pickups are good, but not the best

Comments about Steinberger Spirit GT-Pro Deluxe Electric Guitar:
I like the guitar, but it does have a bit of fret buzz, and the pick ups are a little weak.I dig the feel and the playability of the guitar its is a blast to play and very light. It also has very fast action. It sounds great playing leads and great playing rhythm. Heck it is pretty cool lookin to boot! I plan on swithching out the pick ups and doing a few other minor things to it but its great straight out of the box.
Comments about Steinberger Spirit GT-Pro Deluxe Electric Guitar:
The only drawback I can note is that the tremolo tends to knock the guitar out of tune and break strings. For this reason I don't use it. The bridge should have individual rollers for each string. Also, the strings are expensive but changing them is a breeze. No winding and cutting required. The small size makes it great for travelling as well.
I'm only giving features an 8 out of 10 because the stock pickups are cheap. Let's face it, to build a good guitar at this price the manufacturer has to cut corners somewhere. I replaced the neck pickup with a DiMarzio PAF Pro and the sound is fantastic. I wired the switch for single coil to play clean and humbucking for any amount of distortion. I also turned the tone control to full treble, tucked it inside the compartment and moved the volume control to the far end. Otherwise I found that the knob just got in the way. A foot pedal works a lot better for volume control anyway, in my opinion.
I have owned this guitar for 10 years and its the only one I play anymore. It still looks and plays like new. The frets show very little sign of wear. I have a genuine Gibson SG but this guitar with the PAF Pro blows away the SG (except on styling).
I bought mine 10 years ago brand new.
Comments about Steinberger Spirit GT-Pro Deluxe Electric Guitar:
I bought this used from MF and wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised...that is all I need to say in regards to buying used gear from MF - delivery, packing and condition unbelievably fantastic!
This was my first from MF, and it definitely won't be the last!
24-fret, 25.5" scale neck - I love it and play it with Drop D tuning to the likes of AlterBridge and Black Veil Brides - FANTASTIC!
I also play rock, pop and jazz; this is one well-rounded guitar - it's looks are deceiving.
The build quality is exceptional - equivalent to guitars of higher value and spec.
It is unbelievable that one gets so much guitar for so little $.
I collect guitars and ever since the early 90s, I have always wanted to get one but never got around to it.
The Spirit line is value for many...really!
