Comments about Sterling by Music Man AX40D Electric Guitar:

When something good went bad... Oh Sterling, let me say this straight, It's a 125 craftsmanship guitar with superb electronics. A 769+? No way, A 500+? No way. A 300+? For Pickups and form factor? Yes! "Third time's a charm"? Well for me, i can live with what I have now. First two? The poor craftsmanship ruined the initial impression. Just like other reviewer stated, the QA at Orange, CA is non existent here. It is something that really depends on how lucky you are and receive a good guitar with good craftsmanship. For a 769+ guitar, intonation problems and cosmetics flaws visible at 5 feet are unacceptable. I know is not a Music Man Axis and I'm not expecting this budget oriented guitar to be like its Bel Air brother. Sound wise, is a dream. It lives up very well on that. And for that alone, is how can I recommend this guitar. Third time's a charm applied to me, but last one still has cosmetics flaws but is something i'm going to live with, because I'm now tired to wait for another exchange... and really like how it plays and sounds. Avoid the open boxes... and you now know why. But If you are looking to get a better QA for your money, you need luck, have patience or look at the Sterling JP60. That's a whole different story. I have a 2003 MM JP6 black and a 2015 JP60 mystic green and I don't really see a 1,1k+ price difference between them. Is more like 400-500 difference. Don't get me wrong either, Music Man are mostly superb quality, but the overseas' JP60, is really excellent on its own. I wasted almost a month just exchanging this guitar for another try.

Comments about Sterling by Music Man AX40D Electric Guitar:

This guitar is a solid investment. First the tremolo is absolutely stable. I can dive bomb to zero tension, and it returns to pitch. The trem is dive only, not floating. It could be set up to float , but I like the fact I can rest my palm on the bridge and drop tune to D without the whole guitar going out of tune. The spring tension on the Tremelo bar is rather tight, but can be tweaked. Has a maple veneer with Basswood body. The P/ups are a big plus on this guitar, reminds me of tone zones...High output Dimarzios that burn on full volume but clean up nicely at lower volumes. Very audible tone response when selecting P/up position. The toggle switch for P/up selector is solid and good quality. Bridge Seems to be made of good steel and is of the Gotoh Knife edge type. Tuning keys are tight and well made. Volume knob is a lower friction type that is quiet and stable. Fit and finish, as well of set up,neck relief,P/up height etc are right on the money. Action is LOW and very comfortable to play with no unacceptable buzz anywhere on the fret board. Maybe a little minor buzz here and there but nothing that transfers through the amp or fretting out of notes. This guitar can do metal to blues to country with no problems. Very pleasantly surprised by this guitar and would def recommend to a friend or fellow musician. I cant imagine the big brother to this guitar(The Axis) could be light years better then this guitar priced at 769.99 as opposed to 2000.00. Wich by the way I picked mine up for 645.00. And im very comfortable with the buy. Buy with confidence. Thanks....Gregg S.
