Comments about Sterling by Music Man AX40D Electric Guitar:

I received my Sterling a week ago and I put it to work immediately. I am extremely pleased with the tone quality i am experiencing, in fact that was the first compliment i received after playing it this weekend. I spent alot of time researching my next guitar and i zeroed in on this Sterling and it's big brother AXIS by Musicman. I am here to tell you that even though it would be great to own the AXIS, I didnt make a mistake with the Sterling it is a beauty and a keeper and you cant beat the cost!
Another awesome characteristic of this guitar is the space for your strum hand (i hope that makes sense). I have big hands and there is not alot of clutter right in the sweet zone. By looking at the guitar you would say it looks smallish and to some degree it is, but i am not kidding when i say there is alot of room for your playing hand.
i expect this beauty to be a productive and treasured part of my arsenal for a long time.

Comments about Sterling by Music Man AX40D Electric Guitar:

What to say???? These guitars are not to be compared to the EB Music Man Axis!!! That being said, some may have received a great guitar right "Out of the Box" but I did not. The saddles on the Floyd Rose moved as I began to tune the guitar. So the intonation was gone. Surprisingly, some of the strings were rusty. Go figure!!! I use EB strings on all my guitars and never encountered it. The electronics are not the best, volume knob and switches were noisy. However the pickups sounded very good, when I was able to get the guitar in tune somewhat. Very tight low ends and very clean and punchy sounding. One other thing that I must mention is that the neck felt great, but the fret work was bad (fret buzz).
The bottom line is that you win some and you lose some. If I could have purchased this guitar for less than five hundred, I could afford to put money into it and fix it right. I would suggest if this is the guitar you want and you run into these issues; send it back and keep trying until you receive a good one. For me, it just wasn't something I was willing to dedicate my time to. However, Musicians' Friend made things right and is always a great company to deal with. Good luck
