Ok, I agree with other reviews, this is not a MusicMan, is not even near to a real JP6 MM but this is a great guitar, very easy to play. The stock pickups are okay, the bridge pickup is kind of mud, i will change it. The guitar is light, the tuner works very good, this guitar stays in tune even with a excesive use of tremolo. My only complain is this: This guitar arrived to my house with the worst factory setup i had ever seen before. I had to work on it maybe two hours adjusting the truss rod, the action, and removing and setting up the bridge again because it came kind of twisted. I had played a lot of guitars even double expensive and doesnt feel and sound as great as this.

Everyone knows this is not even close to a real MM. I own the OLP Petrucci and the only thing this guitar has over that is quality control from one guitar to the next. After doing a few upgrades to the OLP it plays as good if not better than this one and was half the price of the Sterling. That's including the upgrade costs. This Sterling has a bridge that I would replace as well as the pups. So, it comes down to... is this guitar, after the upgrades that are needed, worth the overall cost? There are far better guitars in this price range that have better parts IMO. I'd even buy the Sterling by MM AX40 over this guitar. Ultimately, I'd apply the money you would spend to the down payment on a real Music Man.

    This guitar ROCKS!!

    By Sparky-S51pX

LOVE this guitar! You won't be disappointed! Filed frets, quality materials, stunning fit and finish, pick-ups are clean, amazing sustain, trem stays in tune, can't ask for much more than that! Upgraded the strings to nickel coated DR strings which are more geared to my type of music but other than that, this thing is ready to shred out of the box!

    WOW

    By bcoz84

I picked up this guitar just wanting to "try it out" while i was home on leave, wasnt planning on buying it at all... then i started playing, the neck is magnificent. ive never felt a neck like this for under a grand. it actually has a better neck than my old shilouette in my opinion. the bridge and trem are an awesome match with the locking tuners, i abused it a whole lot doing some "vai" style divebombs and it held its tune perfectly. my one complaint is with the stock pick ups, not quite as hot as i need, so im replaceing them with a set of Evo's that should fix it. otherwise its a great guitar for the price and exceedingly comforitable to play (neck, body, everything)

    Happy Birthday Me!

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

I got this guitar for my birthday. I must say this guitar is amazing. Right out of the box i just had to tune it. When i put in the arm for the tremolo, it would fall out but then i realized theres a small allen key hole to tighten the bar so its good. The tremolo works great. Doesnt go out of tune and divebombs sound good. Stock pickups are pretty good. The neck is pretty smooth and fast. Locking tuners were a problem for me for a bit because i didnt know how to use them but now i do. The guitar is prestrung with Ernie Ball Slinkys and theyre really nice. Everything on this guitar is really great. Highly recommend this for JP fans.

    DANG WHAT A GUITAR!

    By jp50lover

The sterling jp50 is hands down the most amazing thing i have ever experienced. This guitar is SO similar to the JP6 its unbelieveable (there is a slight difference, but its insanely hard to tell). I swapped the pickups for a steves special/air norton combo and it just rips. Highly reccomended

    GREAT guitar

    By JWP

    from PA

I've had this guitar for about 7 years now and I love it. It has a great sound right out of the box. I eventually replaced the bridge pick-up with a DiMarzio D Sonic which made it even better. The ONLY complaint I have about this guitar is the "locking tuners." Seriously whoever's idea it was to invent these let alone put them on the guitar needs to be punched in the face. All they do is cause the guitar to come out of tune and actually cut your string while you're stringing it if not careful. All in all....awesome guitar just replace the tuners

    OLP

    By Cygnus X191

    from St. Louis

I just spent about two hours playing an older OLP version of this guitar in the local GC, but let me say, it is NOWHERE close to the MM JP guitars. Now....as for what it is, it is a very very well designed and built machine. The trem and tuners rock, the pickups aren't anything special, but they are dynamic, meaning if you're any decent at guitar, you can really make 'em sing. Played it through a Peavey Vyvpr, great combo right there, went from perfect Limelight (Rush) tone to Pat Matheny to Constant Motion (Dream Theater). The guitar plays very easy, both leads and rhythms. I highly recommend it for anyone in the market.
