OVERVIEW

Clean, elegant look and powerful acoustic tone.

The Takamine TAN16C is a dreadnought acoustic-electric guitar that reflects the Takamine touch in full measure. The TAN16C cutaway guitar's solid spruce top is highly resonant thanks to scalloped bracing. The back is solid rosewood which gives this guitar tonal warmth. Cosmetic touches such as an abalone rosette, gold tuners with amber pearl buttons, tortoise pickguard, body binding, and a clean fretboard give the Takamine TAN16C a visual elegance that matches its brilliant acoustic tone. A Cool Tube onboard tube preamp with bass, treble, semi-parametric mid, an aux source input with blend control, and a chromatic tuner offer warm acoustic tone that's very tweakable. A wonderful-sounding dreadnought played acoustically or amplified.

You have to try one out!

Comments about Takamine Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I was acoustic guitar shopping for about a year. I tried all sorts of guitars such as the Gibson Song Writter Deluxe, Taylor 414CE, and a few Martins in similar price range. Those guitars are beautifully crafted and do sound good, but they also cost more. Soundwise, the Tan16C sounded just as good if not better. I notice that a lot of these guitars rely heavily on the electronics and end up sounding thin when unplugged. This guitar cuts through and has body & warmth to it unplugged, but when you plug it in it sounds wonderful too! The cooltube lets you shape it anyway you want. I'm very happy with this purchase.
The Cooltube and electronics are sweet!
The guitar is well built. Sounds great unplugged, stays in tune perfectly all the way, sounds wonderful through the PA system.
Good quality instrument. Compares to other guitars that cost $500 more.

Comments about Takamine Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

As I said, I have a great guitar. I get so many compliments on this guitar. I use this in an acoustic band setting and I also use this in a classic rock band I am in. It is a fantastic guitar.
I can only say that I had wanted one of these since the first time I played one. The cool tube pickup in this is fantastic. I play this without being plugged it. I play it through a fender acoustasonic and I play it through the the PA system with a LA BAGGS preamp, It sounds great through any of the above. It also plays great. I have compared many different acoustics, quite a few of which cost a lot more than this and they have nothing over this instrament.
I can only say that I am extremely pleased with everything about this guitar.
For what you get, this is a great guitar, They could charge more for this and it would still be worth having. You can certainly spend a lot more on something else. In my eyes and ears, I have what I think is a great acoustic.

Comments about Takamine Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I purchased this masterpiece last June, and played it constantly. Also let some special friends perform in clubs in southern CT.. One problem arose that I never expected; a hairline crack in the finish next to the neck and body. I'm a bit worried about another KAMAN "OVATION" product going bad. I've had problems before with cracks in the finish, twisted neck. That OVATION fixed the mess is O.K. but such an inconvenience. Be careful if you decide to buy this gem; but also buy a humidifier. Good luck

I had never played a solid wood guitar. This baby plays like a dream. Good quality intrument made my Gibson CE sound lame in comparison. Unbelievable tone and quality just a little hard on the pocket book. It will be my #1 from now on.. sounds better the more I play it.

Love this guitar

By Brian M

from Atlanta

Comments about Takamine Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar about a year ago. I had a low end Martin made entirely out of laminate and wanted to step up to a real wood guitar. I looked at Martins, Taylors, Breedloves, and a few others. The Martins and Taylors were in the 2000-3000 price range and of course sounded great but was a little too hgigh in price for me. Then I started looking at Breedlove and it sounded pretty good too but then I stumbled across this Takamine. I played it and fell in love with it instantly. It sounded every bit as good as either the Taylor or Martin and played a lot better in my opinion. Then with the fact it was almost half the cost it was a no brainer. I've had it for awhile now and still love it every time I pull it out of the case. I play in a rock band and a country/bluegrass/folk band and it sounds great with either.I LOVE IT!!!!

Takamine TAN 16C

Comments about Takamine Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Amazing guitar. I own a Martin D-18 and an Ovation and have played Taylor and other top brands, and this guitar wants for nothing. It is a beautiful instrument and plays like a dream. The Cool Tube Pre-Amp adds a dimension that I haven't seen from other preamps. The action from the factory was perfect. My Martin is 32 years old, well seasoned, and I have an attachment to it. However, it will sit in the case when I play live. This Takamine rocks!

ROCK SOLID BEAUTY!

Comments about Takamine Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for about four years and it can't be touched at anywhere near its price. Great acoustic sound, probably the best and most versatile preamp, and a fast action that you can play fairly easily past the 12th fret. I play a lot of barre chords all over the neck both picking and finger style. When I was looking to buy a quality acoustic/electric a few years back, the Martins and Gibsons killed my left hand because of their poor action and high string settings. The upper end Taylors have good action, but they are much more expensive than the Tak and don't have as rich of a sound, IMHO. Bottom line--I am a compulsive guitar trader, but I just can't bring myself to get rid of this axe. I'll just have to save up to buy that T5 I want.

Comments about Takamine Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I own this guitar and I like it better than any other guitar Ive played. I had been shoppin around for a year or so for another acoustic I played Martins, Guilds, Taylors and some others about the same caliber. You won't find a guitar that sounds and plays as good in the other brands for the price. You have to spend at least $2500 if you want a Martin that will compete with it.

Tremendous Mult-Dimensional Axe

By nodak_picker

from Washington DC

Comments about Takamine Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I play a wide variety of musical styles and needed a guitar that could deliver a wide variety of tone, from solid lows and mids for rhythm to bright, punchy single-note leads. This guitar is absolutely fantastic. I played it side-by-side with the Martin D16 and it was as good, if not better, and way less money. Same goes for the Taylor 314CE. The sound man at my church thinks I made a deal with the devil over night, because the Cool Tube electronics on this guitar completely have changed the sound I can achieve--full, rich in harmonics--fabulous. To top it off, this axe sounds about as good unplugged as any you'll find.

WOW! A Great Guitar!

By Waco50

Comments about Takamine Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar is perfect. If you like an acoustic guitar that allows a great sound, then I would certainly recommend this instrument. I have played many guitars over the years ranging from Martins to Taylors and would place this guitar ahead of both. I purchased this guitar without actually playing it first, and I am glad that I did. So if you are considering what to buy for inhouse or on stage performance, this is the guitar. Now for some specific information, the neck is very easy and smooth (like the Taylors), the sound is very wide ranging with lows and highs (like the Martins), the craftsmanship is execellent. The guitar played perfectly right out of the box. The "Cool Tube" feature is the best. Your acoustic sounds like an actual acoustic when played through the PA system. Its just a great instrument.

Comments about Takamine Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I purchased this guitar a few months ago. If you love playing guitar, you'll never want to put this one down. The sound that comes out is crystal clear - not comparable to any other guitar I've played. Tuner and preamp are awesome features. Guitar was ready to be played right out of the case! It's worth every cent and more - will definately make a novice or pro want to play around the clock with little frustration. -This guitar will make you call in sick so you can play it. I am now a "Takamine for life" guitar player! I strongly recommend this beauty.

Comments about Takamine Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I recently won this guitar in an acoustic competition, to be honest I thought about selling it.I took a chance and put some Elixer Medium nanowebs on it and plugged it into my Genz Benz Pro...the sound was incredible better than my other guitar that is quite a bit more. The cool tube is what makes this guitar shine, it has fantastic clean bottom end response and the shelving EQ is just an awesome feature...also I have to say that the onboard tuner and mute switch are equally valuable and it's got an aux. input for blending in another pickup...how cool is that? This is an awesome guitar and worth every penny of the asking price.

Comments about Takamine Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar about 6 months ago I have an American Deluxe Strat but wanted a nice acoustic. I can't tell you how great the sound is unplugged. Very seldom do I put this guitar trough an amp but it sounds great like that too. I shopped around for a year or so playing Martins and Taylors which are great guitars if you don't have a problem with the price. You would never get one of those guitars to sound this good for that price.

Cool Tube is for real!

Comments about Takamine Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I own the 12 string version of this model. I just want to say that the Cool Tube in these guitars is the real deal! I've never heard sounds so big and rich and punchy in an acoustic. The build quality is magnificent and the guitar rings sweetly and with great clarity. I love my Takamine TAN16C-12 and I'm sure the 6 string is just as amazing of a guitar. I can't say it any more clearly; the tube preamp in these guitars is worth every penny spent. They sound great unplugged and they sound even better plugged in with the tube dialed in at about 5 or 6. If you like big, clear, chiming and punchy tones, this one can do it.

Everything a gigging musician needs.

Comments about Takamine Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Amazing tone, solid construction, great preamp, awesome case. This guitar is everything you need in an acoustic guitar. It has a great unplugged sound, something between a Taylor and a Gibson, and it also has one of the best preamps on the market right now. The cheapest Gibsons (which don't even come close in tone) cost more, without a pickup system. I'm a steady gigging musician, and take it from me, this thing handles the stage every night with ease.
