Features: This Takamine guitar for the price has a lot of quality features, a solid spruce top and flame maple sides, pre-amp with a ton of features, and nice abalone inlays. I was surprised at how accurate the on-board tuner is. For the price of this guitar this has a lot of very nice features.

Quality: The quality of this guitar seems to be higher end, especially for the price. I have the black model and the finish is clean and beautiful. I wasn't sure if I would like the black due to it's propensity to show fingerprints, yet even with that it is very well done. The trim around the outside of the guitar adds a subtle beauty. My only complaint with the quality of the guitar is cosmetic and I'm the only one it bothers so far that I have talked to. The inlays around the sound hole are abalone surrounded by a white ring, and that outside ring is half-covered by the pick guard. Poor attention to detail in my opinion, but a small gripe. Value: From my comparisons the value of this guitar is very high. Lots of features for the dollars.

Overall: I am an intermediate player, a hobbyist. When I decided to get a 12 string guitar, I tried Taylor, Martin, Breedlove, Seagull, Fender, and this Takamine. For me, by far, the Taylor and the Takamine was the easiest to play, and though the Taylor projected a little better, the ease of play and the price led this Takamine to be a no brainer. I have been very happy with this decision. I have had this guitar for about a month now. The Takamine stays in tune very well, plays easy, and sounds great, especially plugged in to my amp. The electronics seem to be high quality. I am really happy with this purchase, and the guitar is beautiful.

    Comments about Takamine EG523SC12 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

fix the production errors and it's an easy 8 maybe 8.5
if you can get a price match like I did, 9 maybe 9.5
After a short time with the first guitar ordered I can say the finish was nearly flawless, the look and feel was brilliant, weight and balance outstanding, the sound was just what I ordered.

The problems were an improperly set up nut, the tuner stays on unless you hold it down for 5-6 seconds and it's a bit hard to see, the frets were cut a bit long and bulged the neck binding in places and I had to clamp the pickguard down to have it stick again.

Overall, I scored a huge price match on this...so for under $600 this guitar is un.be.lievable; however, for the usual price, absolutely not. I only say that because I've seen $200 Ibanez and Epiphone guitars without these production errors. Jim at KMC music told me to take a chance on this one over the Gseries 12 from china because this Korean model is better but not as good as their Japanese version like my Sante Fe. Yes, the Sante Fe is worth over a $1000 and this one is worth less, but the Korean plant still needs work.

With a discount and these minor problems addressed (which I'm hoping with be the case with the replacement) I anticipate giving this a 9 star. It truly is a fantastic guitar provided you get a nut action adjustment which is of course not a big deal. You should get it set up anyway.
    read the above paragraph
I paid less than advertised so I give it 9, but most of you will pay the regular price so that's why it's a 7. it would be an 8 if you monitor the production issues

        Comments about Takamine EG523SC12 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I went into Alto Music back in May since I finally decided to achieve my dream of buying a 12 string. I went to the store looking for the Takamine EG345SC-12 and since they did not have it, I picked this beauty up. The one I picked was a poorly repaired used model but they had a brand new one as well and they both sounded phenomenal! June came along and I finally bought a brand new one and never looked back once. The looks were enough to win over anyone. The flamed maple is the color of cream and the spruce top is equally gorgeous. The inlays are nicely done. The neck is wider than I am used to but it's not uncomfortable and you get used to it. When plugged it into my Vox AC30VR, you can get a good acoustic sound and when you put the guitar EQ's treble up, I got the classic Beatles Rickenbacker sound! I can also dial in the guitar sound I've always wanted. Unplugged, it sounds and plays like a dream. My other guitars have collected dust since I bought Blondie (yes, I named it Blondie). In conclusion, I would say that this is the guitar for a musician who wants a super high quality instrument for a reasonable price. It sounded WAY better than the tinny-sounding Taylor I tried (Absolutely no bass or mid. Sounded like nails on a chalkboard. Love their 6 strings though!) I actually found out from the store that Takamine is having trouble meeting the staggering demand for this exquisite instrument. So hurry before they run out again!

        Comments about Takamine EG523SC12 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for a few years now. I've used it at probably 200 gigs since I bought it. I purchased the black one. While the black is gorgeous, it shows every smudge, so you need to keep a rag handy. Also, Takamine really should've made a better looking pick guard for the black model. The sound of this guitar unplugged is pretty good, but it really comes to life when plugged in. The guitar has great electronics. I have noticed that the G strings are a bit lower volume than the rest of the strings. As if the electronics or the sensor under the G strings are not up to the same standard as the rest. I'm the only one who's noticed. The other thing about it is that the neck is pretty wide. I own a few 12s. A Ric 360 and an Ibanez Performance. Both of these have skinnler necks that I prefer. With the Takamine, if I'm playing for a while, my hand actually does start to hurt a bit. Having said that, it's WELL worth the money. You could get a Taylor by donating one of your kids, but for those of us out there that are working musicians (not rich), this is a great guitar.

I dont bother to use the built in tuner because it is difficult to see. But I have no trouble tuning with my small Korg Tuner. The electrics seem to work very well. I very much like the high ratio, tuning keys.
        The BEST.
        Top Notch.

Excellent guitar!! I have had a Guild 12 before, and this guitar is as good or better. Great electronics ! I recorded a recent project plugged in to a DAW. Action is....'like butta' ... lol. Only negative quip is the built in tuner has a tendency to stay on, killing 9V battery. Make sure the tuner is in OFF position before yo put the guitar away or batterey WILL be dead by next day.

        Comments about Takamine EG523SC12 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Slightly wider neck helps with fat fingers. Action is great. On-board electronics are first-rate. Appearence is seductive. Sound is incredible.
This is my third 12-string and first with electronics. Hadn't planned to pay this much--just wanted something playable that I could plug in. Picked it up, hit the strings, and couldn't put it down. Beautiful piece of functional art. It's big and a little heavy, but it doesn't feel heavy when you're playing it. The heft conveys an impression of substance and quality, which is matched by its sound. I play with steel fingerpicks, and this guitar loves to be played hard. So, aside from having to explain to my wife why I needed to spend money on another guitar, I have no regrets--to the contrary, I feel fortunate to have acquired such an exceptional instrument.
As for my taste in guitars, and I know everyone has different tastes, I like Martins (too expensive--don't have any), Epiphone Masterbilts (my favorite 6-string), don't like Taylors or Seagulls (weak bass).
        No discernable flaws.
Can't imagine why anyone would want to spend more, except for status.

Best guitar for the price I own.

          By Scott Gibson

          from Ohio

          Comments about Takamine EG523SC12 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

After playing guitar for over 20 years my tastes in guitars have changed. When I was younger I liked a guitar based on how it looked. I really didn't have an ear for the way the guitar sounded, or how it felt to play. Now I have become kind of a "stuck up" guitarist. I have become spoiled by having a Gibson 1960 Les Paul Classic and a Taylor 850CE acoustic. I have definitely learned what it feels and sounds like to play a great instrument (now only if my skills were worthy of the instruments:)).

I had always wanted a 12 string and the time finally came where my wife not only allowed me to start looking to buy one, but she encouraged me to. Well being spoiled with my Taylor acoustic I decided I woudl first look at a comparable Taylor 12 string. Wow what a disappointment! In fact I even decided if that is what a 12 string played and sounded like I no longer wanted a 12 string. Then about 4 months later I had some extra time and stopped by a music store and there was a used 12 string Takemine EG523SC12. I played it and fell in love with it. In fact te price for a new one was so good that I skipped the used instrument and bought the new one. I have never regretted buying the guitar. it is by far the best sounding guitar for the price. It sounds just as good as my expensive Taylor, and it blew the 12 string Taylor out of the water. Plus it looks great also!
Great electronics that sound great through a PA. The onboard tuner is a great feature when just sitting around practicing and you don't want to pull out your tuner. Have you ever tried to tune a 12 string, this definitely comes in handy!
Great looking guitar with a beautiful finsih. The detail in the pearl inlaws is great. The sound and playability are second to none.
When looking for a 12 string I played many and the quality of this guitar for this price is phenominal! It sounds better than an expensive 12 string a played, and definitely blows other 12 strings in this proice range out of the water!

          Comments about Takamine EG523SC12 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I first noticed this guitar a couple of years ago. Then a couple of months ago I knew it was time to add a 12 string to my guitar arsenal. I started my research on line, after days and plenty of hours of this, it was off to the local stores to look at those that made it on to my first list. Some brands fell off the list because even though they looked good online the neck was not what I wanted or this or that. I'm sure you know what I mean. Then back to the internet research process. must have read hundreds of reviews then after cross referencing all of those and more this and that...I narrowed down the choice to my short list. It included Takamine's dreadnought, single cut away dreadnought, and the jumbo right here. The short list also included a couple of Seagull's, a Breedlove and a Luna or two.To make a long story short, this Takamine Jumbo is now sitting in my studio. I tried not to like it. By that I mean it was kind of flashy. That's because it has a beautiful finish! It had a lot detail work that at first struck me as, hey this extra visual detail must be to make up for sound quality, or maybe the neck is like a baseball bat. No, it just meant that this guitar has much more attention to detail than any of the others I looked at. All were under $1000. When I held it I was sold, I didn't even have to hear it...just holding it sold me and told me this thing is for real. No it's not just flashing to fool you like fools gold. Beauty is only skin deep and this guitar is beautiful inside and out. I even went into the playing room, asked a guy who was really good, if he would mind playing this guitar and letting me know what he thought, and he fell in love with it so fast that I was almost sorry I gave it to him to test because I was sure he was going to buy it right out from under me. He ran it through all kinds of test that only a guitar player of his high level would know to do and he just loved it as much as I did. What this means to you. You will read this review just like I read reviews when I was looking, and you will think about this and that...When you go to play this guitar you might as well take your wallet with you. Hold it and play it and your sold... You will not find anything better in this price range. You would be hard pressed to find anything better in a price range of $1,500 or so.PS. It looks bitchen sitting next to my Gibson J-100 jumbo and my orange Gretsch electric.

          Comments about Takamine EG523SC12 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Overall, I believe this to be a value-driven 12 string," worthy of an honest ""try"" by anyone thinking about a 12 string. Great looks", average electronics, solid construction, and a decent sound make this guitar a nice initial investiment.
Visually, the guitar is beautiful. I own the black model and I love the high gloss finish and the white purfling. The on-board electronics are fair ad far more easier to deal with than the Taylor Expression System. The tuner is a real help.
This is a solid guitar, regardless of the composite of the back and sides. It is very heavy in comparison to the Breedlove Focus 12 I owned. I've had mine about 18 months now and it doesn't feel like its going to fall apart anytime soon. It stays in tune relatively well," but the sustain and tonality is a little more ""tinney"" than other 12s using different electronics.
This guitar is a great value", all things considered. It's at the low end of stage performing instrumentation, but a good ear and good amplification can improve the sound dramatically.

I wanted to buy as quality a 12-string guitar as a college student's budget can buy, and settled on this beauty. I've played it in worship sets, gigs at local clubs, and wherever I play it I get rave reviews from audience members. The electronics are top notch for a guitar in this price range - very crisp sound, and the EQ is a must. In my opinion, plugged in this guitar far outshines my Taylor acoustic. Of course, the looks are fantastic as well. I switched the standard D'Addario strings out for Elixirs (a little more expensive, but I love the tone). The jumbo body produces a loud, rich tone that I've not heard in many guitars. This is a great buy, if you're looking for a high quality 12-string for a decent price, look no further.

One of the best you will ever find for the money, I have played them all and never found any better unless you want to pay for a Taylor and even then hard to compare. As much as I like them, I like the money in my pocket better.Cant say enough good about it. Sold my Ovation 2005 collectors to buy this one. I do not regret it at all.
