OVERVIEW

A big body that stays out of your way and delivers great tone.

The pickup in the Takamine EG530SSC Acoustic Electric Cutaway Guitar is an integral part of the guitar's design. A solid spruce top and big dreadnought body pump out large-volume punchy rhythms while the cutaway lets leads rip right on up to the higher registers. A solid nato back adds projection while a built-in preamp translates all that tone into the electric realm. Abalone rosette, chrome hardware, and a gloss natural finish add visual elegance.

For the price this is a killer guitar. I've owned mine for five years now an it plays beautifully. The tone is much brighter than the Martins I've played at the same price point whose tones tend to be a bit bassier. There's a buzz at both E strings on mine that won't seem to go away even after a pair of "pro" setups. But overall the tone is bright and balanced though it can get a little tinny with dead strings. This is my go to piece for practice and performance alike because I can't afford a higher end Taylor or Martin, but this guitar is better than the mid level and lower models of the more famed makers.

It's a good guitar, but what I haven't liked since I bought it was that the action is really high on mine and adjusting the truss rod won't really help it! It hasn't had a good feel for me, it seems hard to play. The tone is okay, but to me a regular acoustic has a warmer tone. This guitar seems to resonate too much, and doesn't capture the warm bass notes as well.

Best value for the money

I own several high end Takamine and Martin guitars. Set up correctly the sound and plability of the Tak 530ssc guitar rivals the top end Taks and dare I say sounds better than my Martin D35. To get the most from this guitar Ive found Dean Markley Blue Steel cryrogenic strings LTL .11-.52 bring out the full sound this guitar is capable of. I added John Pearse brass bridge pins and the dynamics improved yet again. Of all the guitars lined up in my studio it seems I grab the Tak 530 first. Best sound for the money.

Great Guitar

By playhard

from Rochester NY

I have owned this guitar for a little over a year, also own a Martin D-18. The Tak has become my "working" guitar. Excellent action, sounds great plugged in (I do use a Korg A-10A acoustic modeler though). Intonation is PERFECT, and this sucker stays perfectly in tune through a 4 hour gig - and I play hard. You won't go wrong for the $.

Believe the good reviews

By buyyouatakaminefool

This guitar plays smoothly and sounds excellent. I tried more expensive models, and bigger name brands but this one was the prefect mix of great sound (acoustic and plugged in) and great feel. If you have any doubts, just go play one. No joke.

Simply Amazing

This is my first acoustic/electric but definitely not the first one i've ever played. Acoustically, it has great tone, capturing bass frequncies very well but keeping defined highs, too. Electronically, the tuner is really handy, the EQ is very flexible, it has absolutely no distortion when turned up, it actually sounds like an acoustic when amplified and it has the best feedback detection/destroyer effect I've ever seen. My only complaint is that my strap wants to fall off when I sit down and it's unplugged, but that's more of a strap problem than anything.

It took me 24 hours to fall in love!

I did a lot of research before I bought this guitar. I knew Takamine was a good brand because alot of the recording artists I listen to play with them. I also heard good reviews on the TK4N-T pre-amp. When I saw the dazzling picture of this guitar at Takamine's website, I knew it was the one I was looking for. When the guitar came, I stood in awe and stared at the beauty of its great looks. Finally, I tuned it and started to play. It had been a good year or so since I'd played a steel-stringed acoustic, and by the end of my first session my fingers were screaming at me. My hands were Uncomfortable, I began to doubt my guitar's playability. Today, I tried it again, and though my fingertips still need some caluses, the guitar sounds and plays like a dream. If you are thinking about buying this guitar, quit thinking and buy it, it is worth every penny!

Great Play

By speargat

from Austin, TX

I have been searching for an acoustic-electric for several months, and had played several both in stores and responding to ads. For the cost, this guitar is a pleasure to play with very good action, spot-on intonation, and a quick neck. I play a lot of Dave Matthews riffs, and this guitar made them easy to play. It doesn't quite project as much as other guitars unplugged, but hooked up to the PA it is hard to tell the difference between this and other more expensive guitars. For the money, I have no complaints about this guitar and would recommend it.

Solid Guitar

By AI Basement Dweller

from Tiburon, CA

I have owned this guitar for almost 2 years. The sound, action and electronics are all top-notch. Acoustically, it has a wonderful sound with good projection. It's not a high-end Martin or a Taylor, but it performs well. I have done a lot of recording with this guitar and this is where the guitar really shines. It is gold in the studio. The electronics allow a wide pallette of tones. The guitar seems to favor the treble rather than the base, but that suits me just fine. I would highly recommend this guitar to anyone who wants an all-purpose acoustic guitar for a reasonable price.

Surprised!

Great guitar and excellent value. I own a 1999 Gibson J45 and this guitar isn't quite as sweet sounding as that but it comes close. I've owned over 50 guitars in my life and I was actually very surprised at how good this sounded. If you can get one of these for cheap, do it!

Great all around

By Dr.RosenRosen

from West Chester, PA

I have looked for a decent acoustic/electric for a while. This guitar was the best decision I could have made. Unplugged or plugged in, the sound is bold and the action makes playing easy! Definitely play the guitar before you buy it. I had played a couple that needed some tweaking to eliminate rattling. Beautiful guitar with beautiful sound and great action.

Great Guitar

By Paul-P4de5

from UK

I have owned several acoustics over the last couple of years, but this is my last one as I have found my grail !!The sound is sublime, perfect mix of bass, mid and top end. The sustain is fantastic. Plugged in this sounds even better IMHO this is worth twice the purchase price and kicks a** on more expensive names

Great guitar! Fantastic sounds an playability

Very nice instrument for the price, I just bought it a week ago and I'm very pleased with it. Playability rivals Ovation with much better sound in my opinion.

Absolutely a Solid Guitar - will not disappoint

By takfan shack

I bought this as a starter guitar but have kept it because it has such a great plugged-in sound and has never failed me. I bought a "blem" model from Musician's Friend and was never able to find the blemish! Great guitar.

Definitely a lot for the money

By EricJ770

from Alpharetta, GA

I've only had my new EG530SSC for about a week, but I am most impressed thus far. The built-in tuner is a terrific feature, and the preamp itself sounds great through a PA or amplifier.I bought this guitar as primarily a stage guitar, and it has so far exceeded my expections. Very nice product and great value.

Great

This is my first acoustic guitar, however this guitar was suggested by three of my friends. I have since played several other high dollar guitars and would not trade my 530. I will never sell this guitar!

For the price i paid, this guitar is absolutely awesome. For a not-jumbo guitar, this guitar has a really full sound.I went in there looking for a decently priced good guitar, and the guy pointed me to this one, and i have no regrets.I still can't stop playing it and i constantly just pick it up and smile about how nice it sounds.

I just bought this guitar today. The built-in tuner is great, and it can also be plugged-in to an amp. The sound is full-bodied and uplifting! I can't stop playing it!

Takamine Wonder

By zap23

from Chester, CA

This guitar is my first acoustic-electric and it rocks! The action is the best I have ever played on an acoustic and the tones are awesome. I did have a technical problem though. The plug-in jack got messed up and made some horrible noises. I got that part replaced and it has been fine ever since. If you are looking for a high-quality guitar at a middle-of-the-road price...look no further than this beauty!
