The solid top Takamine G Dreadnought EG531SC Acoustic-electric Guitar features the characteristic broad top and deep body that creates a large resonant air chamber. Built on the popular dreadnought design, It features a solid spruce top for warm, balanced tone, emphasizing strong bass response and luscious, full sound with plenty of volume.
The Takamine EG531SC guitar's cutaway provides plenty of range and comfort when accessing the upper-register frets. The dovetail neck joint, rosewood bridge and fretboard, and mahogany neck offer plenty of sustain. An asymmetrical neck and 1-5/8" nut width provide comfort for intricate fretboard movements.
At the heart of the Takamine EG531SC is an impressive electronics system amplifying your sound with intuitive frequency controls. The CP-100 pickup is an innovative design that uses a U-shaped aluminum rail, securing the pickup and saddle for balanced response from the whole instrument, not just pressure from the strings. The Takamine TK40 preamplifier is equipped with volume, bass, middle and treble frequency slider controls, EQ bypass, a notch filter, tuner and a mid contour switch.
The EG531SC guitar's chrome tuners, mosaic rosette, and gloss finish add a striking touch to this already beautiful Takamine acoustic-electric.

Buy a hardshell case, and make sure it's a snug fit because this instrument deserves to be protected properly.
I read countless reviews before purchasing this one, then went to a few local shops and tested it vs several other models and found it had better projection of sound and playability. I lucked out and found it cheaper in Canada than the US (which is rare) and I've been very pleased with it ever since. The only modification I made was I changed the strings to GHS Acoustic White Bronze and it made a world of a difference for me unplugged and plugged in.
I was able to purchase this guitar from a local shop in Canada as it was significantly priced lower than impoorting even with the high dollar. Needless to say this is a great acoustinc/electric but like others before me have wrote the factory d'addario strings are heavy and make it a real chore to bar chord. I purchased the GHS White Bronze Lights and now this instrument is impecible! I only discounted my rating because of the default strings...oh yeah...protect this guitar with a hardshell case please...
The Takamine EG531SC is a great instrument. I love the features, the on-board tuner and EQ work great. The action is a little harder than I like so I had to go to lighter strings. The neck is also a little smaller than most acoustic necks, it has the feel of playing a electric. It has a wonderful full sound and is great for any style that I have tried to play. I would recommend this guitar to anyone.
I just got back into playin after 15 years. I picked this up second hand in prime condition. It was a bit heavy on action but lights or x-lights will help that out. It has an amazing rich sound that was not expected for the price range. I have a profesional studio guitarist friend that agrees with me. I love the way it switches genres with ease.
I spent several weeks looking for a good acoustic guitar that I could use for recording, but would also sound good acoustically. I tried high end Martin and Taylor guitars, along with many others. I love the tone of Martin guitars, and this guitar is very comparable (acoustically) to the Martins, with the exception of a tiny bit less low end. For the price, I can do without that additional spec of low-end. Plugged in - the guitar sounds as good as any high-end acoustic guitar. The onboard tuner is a nice bonus. The action was decent right out of the box, but may require some setup if you like ultra-low action. Guitar comes with .012 - .054 strings. I haven't had a chance to try other strings yet, but I am anxious to try some extra-lite strings.Overall I highly recommend this guitar, particularly in this price range. I was very tempted to purchase one of the lower end Martin's, but I just couldn't pay that for a fake wood guitar with a bad finish. This guitar all wood and also looks beautiful.
all in all this was a good buy. the tone is wonderful and as soon as i picked this up i knew i had to have it. the action for me is a little too high but i still have to change to some light strings so that may help a little. i was very pleased with the guitar. it sounds very good through a sound sytem and even better through an acoustic amp. very good buy for the price. the preamp is very simple to figure out and the onboard tuner comes in handy too right before a gig buy it, you wont be disappointed.
