Comfortable body size, unique tonewoods, vintage vibe, and state-of-the-art preamp.

The Takamine G Series EG630S New Yorker Acoustic-Electric Guitar rides the wave of popularity that small-bodied guitars are enjoying. Most players have a dreadnought or a larger bodied guitar and a New Yorker body would make an interesting and unique addition to their guitar arsenal.

This Takamine EG630S New Yorker has a classic; "antique" appeal that is evocative of guitars made and played in the 1920s.

For the EG630S, Takamine chose a solid red cedar soundboard, which compliments the small body very well. Cedar responds well to a light touch and produces a very warm and harmonically rich tone even with such a diminutive soundboard.

The back and sides are a very special flamed mahogany. This rare and unique tonewood is chosen for its stunning visual appeal and is sure to inspire many hours of playtime.

And to top off the "vintage" vibe, Takamine has for the very first time created a steel string G Series guitar with a slotted headstock. The look of the headstock is pure tradition and the gold and ivory tuners finish off the classic character of the instrument.

The "vintage violin" finish evokes Images from the past. It is possible to imagine this guitar in the hands of some "bluesman" in an old photograph.

The decades-old design notwithstanding, this is a totally modern performance instrument fully equipped with a state-of-the-art electronic system featuring the TP4T preamp with 3 Band Graphic EQ and built-in tuner.

Comments about Takamine G Series EG630S New Yorker Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have two Taks, so buying another wasn't a stretch. My wife wanted a smaller guitar to play at home, so I suggested a parlor. We are very happy with it. Nice size neck for both of us, sounds very good plugged and unplugged. Better balance and bottom end than I expected for a parlor. headstock/tuners look great. frets were finished nicely. I normally take it straight to my luthier for a set up, but not this guitar...nice out of the box. My only con was that I don't care for the way the 9v battery sits in the compartment, but once it's in, who cares. I'd buy another if something happened to it and that's probably the best compliment I can give any guitar. Exceeded my expectations!

    14th-Fret Parlor, Steel-String Slothead (EG630S New Yorker)

Comments about Takamine G Series EG630S New Yorker Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Takamine EG 630S New Yorker elec/acous
If you like to curl up with your guitar in a comfy chair and play, you will find this Takamine a good and comforatble companion. I was pleasantly impressed with the set-up right out of the box...I spun the strings into tune and this little gem played and sounded great; really nice action compared to many parlors I've seen. Also, though the neck is chunky, it's not obnoxiously so.
Intonation is spot-on and the frets feel 'brand-new' but they're not too sharp or anything. Obviously, the strings and the wood have that slightly over-bright 'brand-new' sound, but the tone is both rich and lively just the same.
The guitar is a real good-looker, too (at least I think so) and the finish, inlays etc are well done and smooth. It's very shiny. Pictures don't do justice to the wonderful buttery-richness of the ''vintage-violin'' and binding, the 'bookmarking' of the grain and flame-treatment of the mahogany are well-done.
I haven't played it plugged-in yet (no amps etc at the moment) so I have nothing to say about the pick-up, pre-amp or anything but the on-board tuner is pretty cool. Personally, I am always looking for my tuner here and there, so I think I will enjoy the convience of the on-board quite a bit. Of course, parlors and other small-bodies are not as loud as jumbos and dreads, but this guitar does not lack for some punch once you get the top singing...
So, I guess I'm saying that I like it a lot...especially for the price, this is a real nice guitar...fun and comfortable to play...sounds and looks great.
Finally, I thought Musician's Friend did a great job throughout the transaction, both sales and customer service. The overall experience was quite positive.

    new yorker antique violin

    By xane grey

Comments about Takamine G Series EG630S New Yorker Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

this is a nice guitar..I have two martin guitars and it is close in performance and action. it is a smaller body so it is not quite a full on some sounds as a larger body guitar. however, the craftsmanship and antique look make up for just about any deficiency.

I prefer a slightly wiser neck that my martin cutaway gives me but for the moeny this takamine is a very smart buy. I have had it 4 days now and enjoy it more and more. and it does stay in tune and the electronic tuner workers very vell. but really the guitar arrived pretty much in tune and I have had to make only very slight tuning adjustments so far.

takamine has copied martin guitars since the late 70's and I believe this guitar is a copy of an old slot head martin parlour guitar from the 40's era. I am glad I bought it.
