I was shopping for a cheap travel guitar to bang up and lug with me on the airplane for extended work trips. When Craigslist didn't pan out, I went by the local music store. Played a couple of nice Martins and Taylors to "calibrate" myself, and then started playing all the cheapest ones in the store...ugh. I had settled on a heavy, dull Yamaha when I spotted the price tag on this Takamine GS330S- really?? Hmmm. I picked it up, strummed about 3 chords, and told the guy to go get me the box! The best playing guitar in my stable had been my $1500 Takamine EF341, which I was too afraid to take anywhere. But now, having owned the GS330S for a few months, it's reliably the one that gets picked up when I want to play. Bright tone that just begs for flatpicking, and clear bass without muddiness on a heavy strum. It's incredibly simple and light, the ultimate no-frills player's guitar.

I own several guitars, and sadly this is the latest addition to my collection. The guitar is really loud for a cedar top, but the tone is awful. The bass notes have a plastic like quality to them, and the treble notes are very harsh and way too bright. For such a loud guitar, there is almost no sustain. And one more thing, after you have a left a good guitar in its case for a few days, when you pull it out, it smells like the woods its made of. This guitar smells like glue, enough said.

Comments about Takamine GS330S Acoustic Guitar:

When this guitar arrived and I tuned it and began to play I was seriously asking myself what the hell have I done this sounds like s......t! All those online rave reviews must be wildly over stated. Anyway, I polished the frets, oiled the fret board, lowered the action and put on some Elixir bronze 11/52 strings...boom, what a transformation! This guitar punches well above its weight and I believe, in a blind audition, it would stand up to ENTRY level Taylors and Martins. My Takamine EF340SC is getting a lot less play time now.
This is the most basic of dreadnaughts, no frills not even inlaid fret board dots! I love the pinless bridge (it supposedly improves the tone as well). Just a clean guitar attractive in its simplicity. Solid cedar top at this price point is a winning feature.
Typical of Takamine's high quality. Nice materials very well put together and the satin finish lends a high end look to the instrument. Given that it is manufactured in China I was very pleasantly surprised.
At this price there are probably a handful of guitars producing this tone with this playability and build quality.

    Beautiful instrument, great value

Comments about Takamine GS330S Acoustic Guitar:

My wife surprised me with this guitar for my birthday, and this is my first day with it. I have absolutely fallen in love with this guitar! The tone has the crisp but mellow quality I've always liked in Ovations and Martins; it sounded nice playing some folk/soft rock, but it also did justice to some blues licks. I'm really, really gong to love playing this thing. I'm back to playing after about 14 years off, and this guitar is already bringing back some great memories and decent technique. I don't need to spend four times more on a Martin; this is a great guitar.
Beautiful looks, mellow, full-bodied tone across the spectrum, great action
Some brands offer inferior instruments on the lower end (or at least ones lacking a lot of the qualities of their more pricey siblings). I've always liked Takamine guitars (although I've never owned one), and this one does justice to the name. The finish is beautiful (a sort of matte finish rather thant he glossy look, and it's nice to have something than bright yellow birch staring at me from the guitar stand). It feels good in my hands, the action is stellar, and as some other reviewers have said, it's got the overall feel of a much more expensive guitar.
I played four or five guitars in various price ranges; this wasn't the most expensive guitar I played, but it was the one I liked the best. It's an excellent guitar for the money.

    Awesome Deal

Comments about Takamine GS330S Acoustic Guitar:

Hands down the best guitar for the price. Very basic looks... but the sound is incredible. Sounds better than my old Martin DM. Sweet rounded tones and loud. Will definitely stand out in a multi-acoustic jam sesh. Also, the action is amazing and quick. If you slapped a blindfold on me and handed me this guitar, I would probably guess it costs 3x more. Thank you Takamine!!

    Awesome bang for the buck

Comments about Takamine GS330S Acoustic Guitar:

VERY nice guitar. Smokes the Martins and Taylors that are in the 1000-1200 range. If you want a GA body style I would check out the NEX brother of this guitar, the GS430s rather than blow it on a Taylor. Great sound and cheap enough to be my go-to traveling, coffee shop guitar. Prefer satin finishes and the fret work and feel of the neck is great - soft C and smooth and low. My other guitar is a high-end Tacoma Dread - so I know what good tone is. Although not as mellow as my Spruce/Rosewood Tacoma it still has a great voice of its own. Tried the gloss finish Tak's and although they all sounded good the thin finish on this one let its tone shine through. I'm a finicky buyer and often have buyers remorse - but not with this guitar.
No major additional features, but the fundamentals like fretwork, tuners are all outstanding. If you want looks over function this guitar is not 4 you.
For the money, this guitar is as good as it gets. A little brighter tone than I expected from Cedar, but loud, full and good across the entire tonal spectrum.

    Best acoustic for the money

Comments about Takamine GS330S Acoustic Guitar:

This is one badass guitar. It's got plenty of high end and brightness, but not so trebly that your ears start to bleed. I like a really bright tone so this is perfect. Picked mine up B-stock with a scratch on the face that got the price knocked down by nearly half. It's an amazing beautiful guitar that stands up to my brother's Martin. It's also plenty loud. Buy it, you won't regret.

    Can't put it down

    By feekl

Comments about Takamine GS330S Acoustic Guitar:

So I'm a beginner and had been playing on an old Fender to start. I decided it was time to grab a guitar of my own. I did some research on the best guitars for beginners within a reasonable price range and headed down to my local music shop to give them a try. I picked up some Fenders, an Ibanez AEL20E, the Epiphone Limited Edition Hummingbird, etc. This Takamine felt and sounded better than everything else. Though it may not have the unique features or decals like the Ibanez, it is beautiful in its simplicity - the picture doesn't do it justice. Now, I can't put this baby down. It is a real pleasure to play and I've fallen in love with it. I'm so impressed by the quality for the price. Sure I picked up some high-end Taylors and Martins just for fun and they are superior, but for a college student on a budget this is gold. My dad and friends love to play it too. Of course, you'll want to go try before you buy but don't look past this thing: it will not disappoint you.

Superb acoustic at an unbelievable price

Comments about Takamine GS330S Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this one a couple of days ago, and I can't put it down. I've owned and played many acoustic guitars over the past 30 years I've been playing guitar, and this is seriously, one of the best playing, and sounding acoustics I have ever picked up. I directly compared the playability and tone with guitars up to $1200 from Taylor, Martin, Guild, Seagull, Breedlove, and other Takamines. This humble guitar's tone was on par with the best of the $1000-range guitars, and the action was better than any acoustic I played. With the first chord I strummed on this one, I was stunned. The tone is bright and lively with the ideal balance of highs and lows, and lot of sustain & projection. The neck is very fast for an acoustic, with a slimmer profile than most. It also has excellent volume. It was one of the loudest acoustics I played in the store. Even more loud than the auditorium body styles. This isn't a guitar with fancy cosmetic adornments. In fact, it has a downright spartan appearance. But it's a player's guitar, and to me it's the tone and playability that matter. I don't know how they did it, but Takamine has really knocked it out of the park with this one. It really shouldn't be this good at this price, but it is.
