John wanted increased sensitivity from his instrument. Takamine's answer was scalloped top bracing, a solid spruce top, and bubinga back and sides. A gloss red stain brings out the beauty of the wood. Top and neck binding and a white pickguard add aesthetic appeal, and a delicately worked abalone rosette is the crowning touch. Features the JJ inlay at the 12th fret. DSP preamp.

I purchased this instrument the day I first played it. While I was not crazy about the red color or the white stick-on pickguard (which I peeled off with great care)the tone was remarkable. Excellent volume, string balance, and resonance. Build quality is top shelf, I couldnt find the slightest flaw. If you are playing the JJ live remember to change your battery each gig. The only warning of a dead battery you will recieve is when your guitar goes "dark." If you are looking for an acoustic that plays like an electric the JJ is not for you. If, however, you are looking for a heavenly acoustic tone that recreates that tone electrically, this just might be the right tool for you. I haven't a complaint about this instrument.

I played this guitar in a local music shop, and I can safely say that without a doubt, this is the nicest sounding, best looking, overall best acoustic guitar out there. The sound just chimes with every note you play. The finish is outstanding, and the tuners do a great job in keeping the guitar in tune. Although the price is a bit outrageous, if you have the money and the desire to play a great guitar, I highly recommend this guitar. I'm giving it all 10's, because I was so impressed with it. Also check out Rainsong acoustics, they are also un-believable.

I bought this guitar about 7 years ago and haven't played anything that I like better. It tunes easy, plays good with very low strings, and holds tune for weeks. I play the crap out of it and rarely have to tune it with Elixir strings. I play two or three gigs a month and have only had trouble with the DSP electronics. They are great when it comes to features, but they shot themselves in the foot when they converted the 9 volt system to two AAs. They last about 6 hours and crap out (Energizer, Duracell, rechargeable, doesn't matter). Also, when using a Boss pedal tuner in line, the pedal tuner has trouble picking up the output and refuses to ever pick up the drop D tuning on the low E string. May be the guitar, may be the tuner. I also have the matching JJ signature 12 string that is an exact copy of the 6 string. I love this guitar as well. If you order it, don't order the DSP. You'll love the guitar, but hate the electronics.
