OVERVIEW

A forceful guitar with solid tonewoods and stage-ready electronics.

Takamine's P5JC jumbo cutaway model is loud and forceful, with a resonant solid spruce top with scalloped "X" top bracing for maximum volume, rosewood back and sides, a convenient Venetian cutaway for easy access to the upper reaches of the fingerboard, and elegant ivory body binding with dark wood purfling and abalone rosette.

Built with the performer in mind, the P5J features Takamine's proprietary CT4-DX preamp system and unique Palathetic under-saddle pickup for superior amplified response. The dual-channel CT4-DX provides a four-band EQ, two feedback-reducing notch-filter controls, a flexible dual-pickup mix control (for use when a second pickup is added), volume control and an onboard tuner.

Other performance-enhancing features include Takamine's asymmetrical neck profile - which is slightly thinner on the treble side so that it fits the natural shape of your hand, resulting in a comfortable feel and improved playability. The split bone saddle provides more accurate intonation, while bridge pin positioning optimizes the break angle to improve sustain and presence.

Premium design appointments include a rosewood fingerboard with ivory and abalone "dot-in-dot" inlays, a rosewood headcap, gold tuners with gold buttons, a natural bone nut and gloss natural finish.

The P5JC comes complete with a premium archtop hardshell case.

The CT4-DX
The two-channel CT4-DX offers the ultimate in preamp flexibility. Used with the Palathetic under-saddle pickup, it offers four-band EQ (low, low mid, high mid, high) and two notch filter controls to reduce feedback.

Add a second pickup (the Takamine Tri-Ax, for example), and the CT4-DX gives you independent control over both pickups, each of which will then have two-band EQ and a notch filter control. You can also alter the mix levels of each of the pickups. Other features include volume control and onboard tuner.

Comments about Takamine Pro Series 5 Jumbo Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is my 3rd acoustic; I also own a low end Tak and a Taylor.

First off, the craftsmanship of this instrument is top notch. Saying that this instrument is beautiful is an understatement.

Unplugged, the guitar sounds pretty darn good. It doesn't sound like a tin can, unlike most Taylors in this price range. Plugged in and the onboard preamp takes the sound beyond the next level. When you compare the woods, tone, and craftsmanship to other popular brands in this price range, the choice becomes very clear.

Note that this guitar was brand spanking new out of the box and played pretty well. However like most new instruments, it needed a setup. So I took it to my local luthier. The action is now super low and the instrument plays like butter.

Comments about Takamine Pro Series 5 Jumbo Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Learning how to find the facts, priceless. This guitar has awesome sound, but the preamp gave me indications to was not up to par. Not knowing how to fix it or make it right pushed me into returning this P5JC and I really did not want too, but found out it was not the instrument I thought I wanted. Fact, in the serial number, it was manufactured 2012 in November and was like the 248 guitar made that month. This is 2017 and they were selling this guitar as open box level 2. Fact, that is used, not new, but its only my opinion. So I decided to buy a guitar not in stock yet and one with all of the newest components onboard, not like this P5JC with a 4 year old Preamp. The new one I exchanged it for has the newest Preamp available, not one from 4 years ago. I look at this purchase as a huge learning curve for me and hope Musicians Friend can help everyone in the future, by disclosing these facts up front, helping all of us make better decisions. PLease know that this P5JC Takamine, not only out played every guitar, priced similarly, the hand craftsmanship was truly a work of art. I tested Martin, Taylor, Fender, Gibson, Breedlove, Washburn and more, before deciding to buy from Musicians Friend. My search was formed online via sound tests, lots of reading and videos from where ever I could find them. We all want to test play for sound quality etc., but no place has all the stock. Placing my order With Musicians Friend was the right thing to do. And they lived up to there word, taking it back when I was not happy. Maybe this will open a new sales approach. Like collecting sound test videos and making them available from your website. Making this process work for both seller and purchaser, priceless. Some how, listing the true facts is a must, but that's just my opinion and I only know what I know. I can hardly wait to play my new Takamine.
