Taylor

The price says entry level. The sound says anything but.

The Taylor 114e Sapele/Spruce Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar is a grand auditorium-sized acoustic-electric guitar that will change your expectations about what a serious entry-level guitar can be. The 114e has a solid Sitka spruce top with sapele laminate back and sides. Other features include a Venetian cutaway for full fingerboard access and the Taylor ES-T undersaddle transducer pickup that lets your 114ce guitar be heard in any venue.

Tonewood
As a guitar soundboard, or top, Sitka spruce is the tonewood standard of the modern era. It’s used on 85-90 percent of the guitars that Taylor makes. Its combination of strength and elasticity translates into a broad dynamic range, yielding crisp articulation and allowing for everything from aggressive strumming and flatpicking to fingerpicking. Sitka spruce is Bob Taylor’s personal favorite for an all-around great guitar.

Grand Auditorium (GA)
The GA is Taylor’s most versatile and popular shape, excelling at light-touch fingerstyle to full-blown strumming. Great for mic’ing and recording, the GA’s balanced mid-range and bright tone exemplify the Taylor voice.

ES-T Under-Saddle Transducer
The ES-T is a single-source, under-saddle transducer with individual elements for each string. It features an onboard preamp and the same active controls found on the full ES. Featuring a custom-voiced EQ and dynamic response, the system is powered by a 9-volt battery, with a battery life LED power indicator (which is lit when the battery is being used). The pickup also has a Phase switch for feedback control, which is located on the preamp board inside the soundhole.

Comments about Taylor 114e Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Alright so here is a honest review from someone who actually plays live on a regular basis. This is a good guitar. Not great, but good. I've had it for almost a year now. Very balanced throughout the bass mid range and treble. However, there are a few problems. One of the tuners on my head stock has already begun to act turn to the side and break. This guitar does not stay in tune. I keep good care of it, and I have to re tune every three songs. I also am not a big fan of the electronics that Taylor uses. At least for this particular model. It just sounds very fake when you plug it in. So I would say just look around before you settle on one. Play all the guitars you can for your price range and decide. If in doubt, save a little more money and buy a better guitar. It will be way better then buying this guitar and then having to upgrade in a year or so like I am going to be doing.

Comments about Taylor 114e Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Bought this on a whim at the local shop in Myrtle Beach. The setup and volume with out plugging in was amazing. Long story short i play it everyday now. It even pushed me to get a 414ce. PS this is a very bright guitar plugged in, your best bet is to turn the treble almost all the way down and bass all the way up, unless you finger picking. The budget ES system in these still have flexability but you have to take it to the extremes. Great Buy

Comments about Taylor 114e Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I'm simply amazed at the quality to be found in this "entry level" Taylor. The tone is nice and bright, like a Taylor should be. The Grand Auditorium body is very comfortable to hold. I like to look down the necks of guitars to see if there are any bends that shouldn't be there, and this guitar has the straightest neck I've ever seen. It comes equipped with Elixer strings. The gig bag that comes with it is probably the best gig bag you'll ever have too (Taylor calls it the "Hard Gig Bag" for a reason). The only thing that needs to be mentioned is that there are a few blemishes on the guitar's sitka spruce top, but honestly it's nothing that bothers me in the slightest. So, unless you're really, really concerned with aesthetics, I strongly recommend this guitar to anyone who's looking for a solid workhorse. I plan on gigging with it in the near future.
