OVERVIEW

Pairs popular Dreadnought body shape with layered sapele back and sides, solid Sitka spruce top, and high-quality integrated electronics.

For years, Taylor’s sleek, ultraplayable necks have helped define a great 12-string experience. The 12-string Dreadnought 150e fits that signature playability and tonal clarity into an affordable package, making a quality 12-string more accessible to budget-minded players looking to broaden their musical palette. The Dreadnought body’s strong low-end response balances well with the crisp octave shimmer, producing a tone that’s lush and articulate, with lots of dynamic range. Features include layered sapele back and sides, a solid Sitka spruce top, 1-7/8-inch neck, matte-finish body, black binding and pickguard, and Taylor’s Expression System acoustic electronics.

Dreadnought
The most traditional of guitar shapes, Bob Taylor has evolved the Taylor Dreadnought over time to honor its enduring sonic heritage yet also refine the look and sound into a more modern package. The Taylor Dreadnought still boasts that powerful dreadnought tone that old school pickers expect, with deep lows and crisp highs, but with a voice that, like every Taylor, is more evenly balanced across the entire tonal spectrum. Perhaps more than any other shape, the Dreadnought remains linked with roots music like bluegrass and folk, in part because of its traditional role in defining those sounds. Pickers and strummers with an aggressive attack will love the Dreadnought’s blend of power and articulation, which allows for clear lead lines and crisp, driving rhythms.

12-String Bracing
Twelve-strings generally employ heavier braces than 6-strings in order to handle the increased tension of twice the number of strings, and to prevent the top from being overdriven. Taylor 12-strings have thicker tops, thicker pin plates, and heavier, non-scalloped bracing, to support the top and adequately amplify the tone of the guitar. The one exception to this rule is the Leo Kottke Signature Model 12-string (LKSM), which has scalloped bracing designed to work with fat, heavy-gauge, low-tuned strings, to give the guitar its characteristic, “throaty-piano” tone.

Expression System
Natural Sound Made Simple
People love the clear, full acoustic tone of their Taylors. Why should it be any different when they plug in? That’s why Taylor spent several years developing the onboard acoustic pickup and preamp. Taylor’s groundbreaking Expression System (ES) was designed to naturally amplify the warm acoustic sound of ythe guitar.

The ES is an all-magnetic acoustic guitar pickup system that works like a microphone to produce a pure signal and a warm, natural acoustic sound. When you plug in, you'll hear the sound of ythe guitar, not the sound of the pickup. No complicated controls. No tone simulators. Just a clean amplified acoustic guitar sound supported by three simple controls — volume, bass and treble.

Breakthrough Technology
Nothing sounds as true and musical as a microphone. With that as a starting point, Taylor’s David Hosler led the team responsible for the Expression System's breakthrough technology. Utilizing a unique Dynamic Body Sensor mounted to the soundboard, a Dynamic String Sensor embedded beneath the fretboard, and a discrete preamp, the advanced ES technology is unlike any other guitar pickup system.

Integrated Design

The ES was designed in-house, alongside Taylor's acoustic guitars, which allowed them to build the ES seamlessly into the design of the guitar, for an integrated pickup system unlike any other. From the design and location of the body and string sensors to the voicing of the preamp, the ES is fully optimized for the Taylor sound. The elegant design, including the non-intrusive control knobs, also preserves the aesthetic of a Taylor guitar.

    Comments about Taylor 150e Spruce/Sapele Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Taylor is one of the few brands you can buy without going to a retail store for a test drive. This is my 7th Taylor and it is built as well as all the others in spite of the fact that it cost 1/3 of the others. You can't go wrong, especially at this price. The only thing that would make this better is if it came with talent for the new owner.

      Comments about Taylor 150e Spruce/Sapele Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I wanted a new 12 string guitar and the Taylor 150E was the perfect guitar. The fit, finish and intonation are typical Taylor. Perfect... It plays like butter right out of the box. The set-up was spot on. The intonation is perfect all the way up the neck. Play an E chord in the first position and its loud and clear. Play the same chord at the 12th fret and the same thing. Pitch perect.

This guitar is the best deal going regarding the 12 string guitar. Again, Tay;or perfect.

        Comments about Taylor 150e Spruce/Sapele Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this because Guitar player in the October 2014 edition had a two page article and stated 3 times it was made in USA. I have been trying to make sure all my guitars are made in USA with the exception of my Takamines which is Japan where the main company is. I returned the guitar which MF was very good about.

        Comments about Taylor 150e Spruce/Sapele Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Whoa! After 30 years of waiting for a quality acoustic/electric 12-string in the three-digit price range, I jumped at this one. The acoustic tone and feel are superb. It easily takes heavy strumming while staying in tune. And the Expression System is amazing! Through an amp, PA, or recording system, the electronics reproduce the acoustic sound almost flawlessly. It's the best I've ever heard. Now, if Taylor can do the same thing with a 6-string, I would buy in a minute!
