OVERVIEW

Limited Editon tonewoods, a comfortable body shape and Taylor ES-N electronics.

Not only is the rare quilted sapele used for this series visually different from the sapele used elsewhere in the Taylor line, its tonal response is also distinctive. These flatsawn sets have more flex, which translates into greater power and warmth on the low end. A premium European spruce top is the perfect complement, blending elements of Adirondack spruce' robust output with a hint of cedar' warmth. That tone profile makes an evocative wood pairing for our nylon-string GA and GC models. Quilted sapele and ivoroid appointments, including a diamond œSolitaire inlay scheme, add elegant sophistication to the presentation.

Grand Concert (GC)
Body Length: 19-1/2" / Body Width: 15" / Body Depth: 4-3/8"
A smaller bodied guitar ideally suited for fingerstyle.

The small-body Grand Concert debuted in 1984 to meet the needs of a new wave of adventurous acoustic fingerstyle players. In contrast to the traditionally darker, boomier voices of bigger body styles like dreadnoughts and jumbos, the GC' compact size and tapered waist kept the overtones in check. It was also more comfortable to play while sitting down, and the guitar' slightly wider neck gave players more room for complex fingerings. The GC' smaller sonic footprint also fit cleanly in a mix with other instruments when tracking in the studio and with a band on stage, making it a useful tool for professional session and side players. The current generation of GC models continues to accommodate fingerstylists with finger-friendly traits like a shorter 24-7/8" scale length, which makes fretting easier and adds a slightly slinkier feel on the strings due to the lighter string tension. If you feel more comfortable with a small body or favor controlled overtones, a Grand Concert is a great option.

Quilted Sapele
Origin: West Africa
In contrast to the relatively straight-grained sapele used for backs and sides in Taylor' 300 Series, quilted sapele is an extremely rare and precious find. Rare enough that years can pass between appearances. While standard sapele is normally quartersawn, which contributes to its overall stiffness, quilted sapele is often flatsawn. This not only allows the beautiful figure to be showcased to maximum effect, it also produces more flex in the wood. This translates tonally into slightly more power and warmth than standard sapele, which typically has a mahogany-like tone with a more pronounced treble zing.

Goes well with: Most playing styles. Like standard sapele, it' a great all-purpose tonewood that will respond well to a variety of playing styles. If you like mahogany, you™ll like this tone profile. Strummers will appreciate the extra power in the lower midrange, while fingerstylists will enjoy the warmth.

ES-N
Like the the ES-T, The ES-N is a single-source, under-saddle transducer, but the preamp design and tone controls were customized to complement the nylon-string voice. Our standard ES control knobs enable plenty of tone-shaping and preserve the natural design aesthetic. Installed on nylon-string models.
